The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) and Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) will have to tackle another difficult blow to their parenting plans.
Abby was devastated when she realized she wouldn’t be able to carry a baby, but she worked through her disappointment and got excited about this surrogacy idea.
Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) has agreed to be Abby’s gestational carrier, so the plan was for her to carry Chance and Abby’s baby. On the February 1 episode, Abby and Chance will find out that’s just not possible right now.
Chance has low sperm count and low motility, so he’ll break the news that he can’t give Abby a child.
Although Chance will note that his condition may correct itself at some point, there are no guarantees – and this couple won’t want to postpone their family. It’s sad that Y&R’s really piling on the problems like this, but Chance and Abby won’t give up.
Chance will mention that after he has a drink and feels sorry for himself for an hour or two, they’ll revisit their baby plans. There’ll be talk about possibly finding a donor or reevaluating the idea of adoption.
Now you might be wondering what that means for Mariah – and it’s safe to say Mariah will be wondering the same thing once she gets updates.
The adoption angle will still come with all the complications that Abby and Chance discussed before. Although Abby acknowledged it’d be great to give someone else’s baby a loving home, she preferred the idea of having her own baby with Chance – even if she couldn’t be the one to carry it.
That desire surely isn’t going to go away just because Chance can’t serve as the father. There’s no reason Abby can’t still have this baby be her own biological child since she already decided on that.
As a result, Abby will want to keep her same surrogate agreement with Mariah. The only difference will be that a sperm donor will be used instead of Chance’s sperm.
Mariah’s bound to feel like things are getting awfully complicated, but she does seem pretty intent on giving Abby and Chance a bundle of joy. Of course, that could change as time goes on.
The Young and the Restless spoilers for February sweeps state that surrogacy plans will move forward, but Mariah will battle doubts about what she’s signed on for.
Mariah will fret over how this might affect her relationship with Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) and deal with some second thoughts. We haven’t seen any of that play out since Mariah made her surrogacy decision. That tells us the sperm donor option is the one Y&R writers will go with – at least at first.
Naturally, Mariah could back out anytime and force Abby to find another surrogate or adopt. We might even see some baby pop up on canvas that Abby tries to take in.
Abby is determined to be a mom as soon as possible, so The Young and the Restless writers may not want to turn this into a super lengthy story. It all depends on how much drama the writing team wants to get out of this.
Regardless, some interesting twists and turns are ahead as the baby storyline continues. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Abby and Chance will do everything in their power to be parents, so stay tuned to see how they finally get there.
