The Young and the Restless Spoilers Update: Thursday, January 14 – Surgery for Abby - Chelsea's Poor Recovery - Lily's Lonely

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers update for Thursday, January 14, teases that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) welcomes Dr. Lena Cavett (Dana Sparks) to the penthouse and is ready to get started. “We’re hoping for some progress today,” Adam insists.

Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) sits still and quiet as usual in her wheelchair looking glum.

Dr. Cavett decides maybe they should try the physical therapy session without Adam. Chelsea is already feeling tremendous pressure, so Dr. Cavett wants to see how Chelsea does without someone observing her – particularly someone that Chelsea wants to please.

In the Grand Phoenix lobby on Thursday’s Young and the Restless episode, Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) grumbles about the restraining order that makes sure she stays away from Naya Benedict (Ptosha Storey). Imani Benedict (Leigh-Ann Rose) is behind it – the daughter Naya chooses to acknowledge.

Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) suggests fighting it since Amanda isn’t a threat to anybody. Amanda argues that the Benedicts know that; it’s just their way of proving what a powerful family they are.

If Amanda fights back, they’ll just up the ante. Devon wants to buy Amanda a drink and talk her down, but she gets a text from Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and decide work will be a good distraction.

At the Chancellor mansion, Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) has brought ice cream back to cheer Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) up. Abby suggests there’s no need and downplays her negative pregnancy tests.

Abby’s got a gynecologist appointment to find out why they aren’t getting pregnant and hopes it’ll be an easy fix. Chance loves Abby’s optimism and plans to get checked out, too.

At Newman Enterprises, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) finds Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) working late. Stressed Victoria was going to attend the kids’ school fundraiser – “an ice-skating thing.”

Unfortunately, Victoria’s stuck at work and can’t take them, but she insists Billy will do it. Nikki wonders if Billy might have scheduling conflicts of his own.

Victoria realizes that Nikki’s referring to Billy’s new romance with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). Whatever Billy’s got going on, Victoria feels certain Billy will cancel it and be there for their children – “because that’s just who he is.”

Nikki fishes to find out how Victoria feels about Billy dating Lily, but Victoria claims she doesn’t even think about that and is happy for him. Nikki talks about Billy’s high-power job and new relationship – all while the kids live with Victoria. “That’s a pretty sweet setup he’s got,” Nikki says.

If Nikki wants to trash-talk Billy, Victoria thinks she should go talk to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Nikki argues she’s not trying to put Billy down. She’s just worried since Victoria has no social life.

“Where is the fun for you? You deserve it!” Nikki insists. Victoria complains about Nikki butting in, but Nikki says it’s only her opinion.

Back at The Grand Phoenix, Devon spots Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) and walks over to greet them. Devon politely asks for a moment alone with Nate, but Nate argues that whatever Devon has to say can be said in front of Elena.

Devon looks a bit offended, but he assures Nate that this isn’t about the three of them and doesn’t want to fight.

This is actually about Devon’s younger brother, Moses Winters, who’s 16 now. Devon notes that Moses is thinking about finishing high school in Genoa City – partly because of Nate.

Devon explains that Moses is considering going pre-med in college. Moses might even enroll in one of those dual-degree programs where he can finish his undergrad and med school in seven years.

Devon notes that a lot of Walnut Grove graduates go on to top colleges. Sofia Dupre (Julia Pace Mitchell) reached out, so Devon said he’d be happy to open up his home to Moses. Sofia was also wondering if Nate would be willing to mentor a young future doctor.

Devon assures Nate that Moses’ goals are very real – and he’s family. Nate says that honestly sounds like a lot for him to take on. He’s still trying to figure out where his career’s going without doing surgery. Devon seems disappointed, but he suggests that Nate can always change his mind if he wants.

“So…was it the message or the messenger?” Elena wonders after Devon’s gone. Later, Nate admits he’s conflicted about mentoring his cousin, but not because Devon is the one who brought it up.

Nate has accepted his limitations, but he’s still bitter about his injury. It could come out in front of Moses in the worst way possible. Elena disagrees and insists Nate would be a great role model.

At Chancellor Communications, Amanda congratulates Lily and Billy on acquiring Ask MD Now. After Billy leaves to draw up the contracts, Amanda speaks with Lily about connecting with her birth mother. Lily’s stunned over the restraining order news, but Amanda notes that Imani views her as a threat.

“How dare that little brat…demand that I step aside so that she could just continue her fairytale life!” Amanda snaps. Lily argues that Amanda doesn’t know Imani’s story and what she’s been through. Lily also feels like people don’t make the best decisions when they’re upset.

Amanda thanks Lily for talking her down from the ceiling. When Lily asks about Devon, Amanda admits she doesn’t know where she’d be without him.

Lily acknowledges that the friendship is escalating and learns Devon made Amanda an omelet this morning. “Wait, you had breakfast together? As in…” Lily says. “He’s your brother. Why don’t you ask him?” Amanda replies and leaves Lily even more curious.

At Crimson Lights, Adam finds Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and asks about her honeymoon. Sharon asks about Chelsea next, so he admits she’s having a physical therapy session right now. Sharon is pleased by Adam’s updates on how he accepted Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) help.

Adam says he’s doing OK, but Sharon doesn’t seem so sure. Sharon feels Chelsea will be fine and has a lot of people rooting for her. Adam feels a little guilty, so Sharon asks why since this isn’t his fault. Adam can’t help but wonder if he could’ve done something to prevent this.

Once Sharon brings up Connor Newman (Judah Mackey), Adam admits he’s had to lie and evade. That kills Adam, but what else is he going to do? Sharon thinks it’s good for Adam to get this off his chest.

Adam thinks this is Sharon’s fault for being “too good a listener.” Sharon grins just before Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) appears and greets Adam, who awkwardly congratulates Rey and welcomes him home.

After Rey asks about Chelsea, Adam says he thinks she’s going to be back to 100 percent very soon. Chance appears and offers well wishes to Chelsea, too. Adam is short with Chance, who wonders if he said something to offend him.

Adam admits Chance has actually been very polite – that goes for Rey, too. He says they don’t have to walk on eggshells or pretend they don’t hate his guts because of Chelsea’s condition.

This polite act is almost worse, so he says they should all stop pretending. Once they’re alone, Sharon defends Adam to Rey and Chance since he’s going through a rough time.

Afterward, Chance confides in Rey about it taking longer than they’d like to have children with Abby. Rey feels like Chance will make an excellent dad – and Chance knows Abby’s destined to be a mother.

At Society, Victoria runs into Billy and hears about the Seattle trip to close a deal. Victoria guesses this makes up for the trip Billy had to miss in New Orleans, but he points out that trip wasn’t about business.

“Wow, you two are starting to get really serious,” Victoria says. Billy feels like Victoria’s overstating it, but even if she isn’t – is there anything wrong with that?

Victoria argues that she’s perfectly happy for Billy, but he gets the feeling that’s not exactly true. Victoria thinks Lily is “awesome,” but she doesn’t want her to get hurt. Billy suggests that’d only happen if he screwed up with Lily the way he screwed up with Victoria.

Talk turns to the ice-skating fundraiser that Victoria can’t make it to. Victoria wonders if Billy can take the kids for her. She’s sure Lily won’t mind if Billy bails on his celebration plans. “You did miss a night with Johnny and Katie while you were out of town, by the way,” Victoria adds.

Billy ultimately relents, but he seems annoyed. After Billy leaves and Victoria steps toward the bar, she hears worried Abby on the phone trying to get Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) to call her back from Paris. Victoria looks concerned and asks Abby if something’s wrong.

Abby admits that she’s struggling to get pregnant and fears something might be seriously wrong. Victoria gets what Abby’s going through since she faced miscarriages – and then Billy tried to fix things with devastating results.

It was like three years of bad news, but then Katie Abbott (Sienna Mercuri) came along as a big surprise.

Victoria pushes Abby to have confidence and think of her miracle baby to give her hope. After Billy fills Lily in on the change of plans, he heads to Crimson Lights to pick up the kids.

Victoria confesses her meeting wrapped up early. Johnny and Katie got really excited when Victoria told them Billy was coming, so she figured they could all go together as a family.

“You’re not upset, are you?” Victoria asks. She insists she thought Billy would be happy and promises her schedule really did change. “I don’t think you’re lying. You would have no reason to,” Billy says. They’re all here, so Billy says they should just enjoy themselves – though it’s clear he’s not thrilled.

Back with Lily, she places an order for dinner over the phone. “No, it’ll just be for one,” Lily says somberly. Meanwhile, Chance returns home to a weepy Abby. Her gynecologist wants to do a procedure to see if scar tissue from Abby’s miscarriage a few years ago is affecting her ability to get pregnant.

Abby’s upset about the surgery, but Chance insists there’s no need to jump to the worst-case scenario. He doesn’t doubt for a second that they’ll have the family they want – and neither should Abby.

Amanda meets back up with Devon to fill him in on a text from Naya, who’s sorry Imani took things to the extreme. “I feel so much better about that,” Amanda says sarcastically on Thursday’s Y&R episode. Even if Amanda had the restraining order removed, Naya has no interest in a relationship.

Devon argues that it’s Naya’s loss. Amanda acknowledges that she’s a success and feels Naya’s using that as an excuse to not feel guilty. Devon keeps defending Naya, but it’s only because he’s trying to understand why Naya would possibly turn down the chance to get to know Amanda.

Adam enters the penthouse to hear Dr. Cavett giving Chelsea a pep talk. “So, I don’t want you to be disappointed just because things didn’t go well today. It takes time. You’ll get there,” Dr. Cavett promises.

Adam reassures Chelsea, but privately asks Dr. Cavett to be honest with him about Chelsea’s recovery chances. All Dr. Cavett says it that staying upbeat will help Chelsea.

Finally, Adam receives a text from Sharon, which says to let her know if he needs anything. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Adam will indeed need Chelsea again soon, but that’s not going to go over well with Chelsea!
