In tonight’s 7 Little Johnstons episode, Amber and her kids are learning a new language. They’re learning Finnish. The family agreed to be a host family for a foreign exchange student and the student was from Finland. He was also a little person. Which was great. The house was tailored for little people as it is because the Johnstons are considered the biggest little family there is and so the young man they’re taking in will fit right in.

The kids also tried doing other things for him. They went around the house labeling items in Finnish. They tried to recreate some Finnish’s meals and some of it was shocking because Americans tend not to know that other nations eat reindeer. They eat all other meat while thinking reindeer is sacrilegious. And that’s because of the popularity of the song “Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer”.

The family doesn’t know when the young man will be joining them. But they decided to video chat with him to find out and so learning Finnish will make things easier for when Joose has communication issues. It will also help him feel less alone while in the U.S. In the meantime, the family was still adjusting to changes. Trent has changed careers. He went from landscaping to being a car salesman. His son Jonah was also a car salesman and he teaches Trent what to do whenever Trent was stuck or needed help. Jonah was a really good car salesman. He even got a plaque tonight for all the great work he does. And so Jonah was doing well for himself.

All the older kids were doing well. Anna works full-time as a receptionist and she’s still going to school. She also hasn’t given up on her online sales. She still does that. She’s living on her own with just her dog. Liz was in the same boat. She’s going to school and working full time. She also lives on her own. The older kids are fine. Their relationship with their parents has gotten better since they moved out and so the kids still come over. The older girls came over to make guacamole. They have their own kitchens, but they still love cooking at their parents’ place and Amber supervises. Something she has to do in Anna’s case.

Anna’s greatest skill has never been cooking. She picks up cilantro and thought it was basil. Thankfully, the guacamole recipe calls for cilantro. Anna just didn’t know the name of it and she needed help in cutting the avocado. Liz helped her out there. The older kids weren’t a part of the later conversation with Joose. Only it went well. Emma and Alex spoke to him. Joose’s English was very good. He said he was still waiting for things and so he didn’t know at the time when he was going to be coming but it he’ll find out in the next few weeks and the family continues to prepare for him.

Amber wanted her family to speak proper English when Joose arrives. Right now, they speak country. This wasn’t proper English and so Amber tried to correct them when possible. The person struggling with it the most was Trent. Trent is a country boy. Hell, he said in his confessional that he still struggles with there, their, and they’re. He also struggles with where and were. But to be fair to him, those words all sound the same in his country accident. Trent also did several videos for TikTok to promote his social media. He was hoping that social media will translate into car sales and so Amber and the kids helped him out.

The first video was when Trent tried to do those car sign spins. He didn’t know how to do it like the professionals but his efforts still made for a fun video and it gained a lot of traction in under two minutes. His second video was at the car lot. Trent’s family found out he could do cartwheels and so they asked him to do several of those. Which was annoying for Trent because he said those were painful, but he asked for help on social media and they did help him. The family later heard from Joose. He got approved to come to the country. And so they soon picked him up from the airport.

Joose has his own room. It was a little distance form everyone to give him the space he needed. But the family also did things with Joose and one of them was teach English words. Joose had a hard time knowing the difference between pear and beer. They do sound the same. The family explained the difference and Joose talked about the overall difference between Finland and the US. Joose doesn’t really get stares back home. They don’t throw around the “m” word. If he gets stares, its from kids who will point at him and call him the Finnish word for little person. And that word is short stature.

In America, its different. Americans can be ruder because adults will take photos of little people or call them the “m” word if not get hostile. And so adjusting to America will be different for Joose.

THE END!
