Snowbird or better yet Bird has had a medical situation. She had two tumors on her ovaries. She had to have surgery to remove them and the doctors told her that there was a high chance they’ll come back if she doesn’t have her ovaries removed entirely. Now, Bird wants children. She currently doesn’t have them. Her family has been pushing her to find someone and have babies and she didn’t really want to. She wasn’t in the right mindset to find love. She’s still mourning the loss of her father. Her father was the main person she turned to for advice. It’s been hard on her to live her life without him and so she wasn’t ready to date or have kids.

But if she doesn’t have the surgery, the odds are the tumors will return. They will also be cancerous once they do. The doctors want Bird to remove her ovaries now and that’s hard on her because while she was not currently ready to discuss children – she always envisioned herself carrying them. She wasn’t ready for other discussions. She doesn’t want to think about adoption or surrogacy. Or even fostering a child. She wants to hold onto her dream of carrying her own child and so she’s pushing off surgery to remove her ovaries. She figured she’d have time to think about it before the tumors regrow. And that’s why she taking her sweet time as she considers all options.

Bird was recovering at North Star Ranch. She was staying with her mom and sister. Bird was supposed to have gone to Alaska only she put off the trip thanks to her surgery. Bird’s Alaskan trip was where she was going to center herself. She got a letter from her mother. It was technically from both of her parents because Ami was writing for both herself and her late husband. Ami saw how Bird has been struggling since Billy died. She thought a letter would help Bird see that her life is just beginning and that there was hope for the future. Bird sorta lost that hope after her father died. Her mother was simply helping her to find it again when this happens.

First, she finds out she has tumors on her ovaries. Then she’s told she has to have surgery. Before finally being told she might have to get a hysterectomy because the tumors are too dangerous and she’s already lost a part of the abdomen as it is. She doesn’t want to lose anything else. She doesn’t want to lose anyone else. But first, she has to get better. Her family was taking care of her right now and she hated that. She hated that she wasn’t her normally strong self. She hated that she was missing out on the Alaskan trip as well as what was happening back on the mountain. Bird’s brothers have found a new zeal to build their family homes.

Gabe and Bear both had wives. They had children. They couldn’t keep living in an RV forever and so they got serious about rebuilding. They went scouting for locations. They found material. Though in Gabe’s case, the material was just a little too dangerous. He wanted to reclaim wood used from olden times. Back when there was a gold rush in the area. Those carts of gold would run along on a wooden tram and Gabe wanted to use wood from that tram. He took one look at it and thought it was great. His brother Bam Bam on the other hand didn’t see their worth. He thought the wood was too damaged.

Gabe disagreed. Gabe then enlisted Bear in helping dismantle the old wooden structure so that they could use the wood in building their family homes and that’s when they weren’t fighting off bears. Bears as in the actual bears were a problem. They were just coming out of hibernation and moving around on the mountain. Bear as in Solomon had to scare one of the cubs off. The cubs aren’t the problem. It’s those mother bears that are the problem because those are the ones that are dangerous and so it’s a good thing the little cub had already left the nest. Bear didn’t run into any mama bears when he ran the cub off. In other words, he got lucky with that one.

There were all sorts of animals in the bush. Bear also ran into mice. He had to reassure his wife that it wasn’t the small mice that would rum up their legs. They had big mice in the area. He cleared them off before he built a wood platform over what used to be their nest. He also put a tent on the platform. Bear wanted him and his wife and baby boy to live in the tent and have some room to breathe. He got Gabe to help him with it. Which in hindsight hadn’t been the best decision. They struggled for days with putting up a tent on the platform because those things were made for going into the ground. And they got it up through luck.

As for Bird, she decided to go to Alaska now. She was going with her brother Noah and his family. They were also taking along Bird’s sister. Bird was set on going to Alaska to feel close to her dad and she didn’t even want to wait until she was fully healed to make the trip. She wanted to make the trip now before anything else cropped up.
