In tonight’s Blue Bloods episode, the Mayor put in a request. He wanted to change a member of his protection detail and he was putting the request to Commissioner Frank Regan because he had someone in mind for the job. He wanted Frank’s son, Jamie. Jamie wasn’t asked by the Mayor.

The Mayor simply put in a request and he left Frank to respond. Frank wanted to ask Jamie. But one of his people reminded him that that’s not how the protocol works. If Frank goes to his son to see how he “feels” about the situation, people could accuse him of giving his son a favor he wouldn’t have extended to anyone else. And so Frank couldn’t go to Jamie.

Even if it was about Jamie. Jamie was a Sergeant studying for his Lieutenant’s exam. He liked where he wasn’t and he didn’t seem to be in any rush to jump ahead. Jamie later got a call from the Mayor. The Mayor asked him to meet him at the Mayor’s mansion for lunch. He didn’t know what it was about and so he went over to his dad’s after his shift.

He waited for Frank to come home. But Frank initially thought that Jamie had found out about the transfer only he hadn’t. He only knew about the lunch. He told his father about it and Frank said what it was about. Frank also mentioned that it could be a play from the Mayor.

Only Jamie didn’t want to be used in anyone’s game. He wanted to stay where he was. He thought his father should have warned him before this and he didn’t like it when Frank mentioned protocol. Jamie who is practically a boy scout had for once scoffed at the word “protocol”. He thought the least he deserved was to be warned about the transfer before it could happen.

Jamie left his father’s place in a huff because he was just that angry. He went home. He talked with his wife about the job offer and she fully supports him if he wants to take it. She thought he would look good in civilians clothes.

Edie also said she would follow him wherever he goes. But what she didn’t mention was that she had a tough time on the job. She lost her cool in a standoff with some guy with a camera. The guy was intentionally riling up a group of people by insulting them. He wanted the police to come. He wanted to harass them. He eventually got on Edie’s bad side and she arrested him once he accidentally touched her partner. Now, the guy was filing a lawsuit against NYPD. Edie’s partner blames her and Edie still doesn’t see where she went wrong. She talked about it with Grandpa Henry. And he gave her an idea.

Henry said that the guy she arrested was probably hiding something. No one would shine a light on other’s sins if he didn’t have something to hide. Henry later approached the nuisance of a man. He told him all about how he found out about the guy’s need to talk to underage girls. Even soliciting naked photos from them. Henry dealt with the problem. Edie was grateful, but she really does have to do something about that temper. Edie solved her problem with the lawsuit and so her next problem was the one she had with her partner. He had a point when he said he wasn’t a Reagan. He couldn’t expect the same kind of protection she could.

Eddie talked to her partner with Henry’s help. They got him to understand that they were looking after him and that he will always have their support on the job. The family extends this favor to a special few. Erin did it for Anthony. This is why she showed up at the hospital when his brother’s girlfriend went into labor with twins. Anthony had been there because he found out his brother needed money and that he even asked a crime boss for a job. Any job. As long as it could help him pay the bills and so Anthony stepped in to help. He wanted to keep his brother out of prison. Anthony called Erin when the twins were born and someone called the crime boss.

Vangelis claims he turned his life around in prison. He now is a new man and this new man paid for the twins’ hospital bill. Later, Danny solved a case when his eyewitness woke up from her coma. She gave him all the answers he needed to find the culprit and arrest him. But Jamie hadn’t made up his mind about his career path. He was always the kid that refused to say what he wanted to be when he grows up and so now he has to make a decision. Does he want to be a cop or does he want to enter politics?

THE END!
