Dr. Scott has been sleeping with the undercover cop that goes by the name of Milena. Milena can’t give her real name. Not until her case is closed and Scott knows this. Yet, he likes to act real dumb sometimes because he thinks he should know everything that she’s doing. He searches for her phone when it rings and he sees piles of cash and asks about it. It was both not his place as well it could literally risk her career if not life. Scott grew up around cops. He should get that. He shouldn’t be asking questions and demanding to know things. Milena started to explain herself before realizing she didn’t need to. Not to him. Not to anyone other than her boss. Milena said this was the last time they were going to be doing this and Scott had no one to blame for that but himself.

Scott later went to work. He teamed up with Crockett on a man shot in a home invasion. The man’s name was Gavin Welsh. His shooter left behind the gun. They also somehow managed to get him alone with both the wife and kids being out of town for a trip. The family was notified of the incident. They rushed back from the cabin. But the wife was calm. It was her sister who fell apart. The sister was crying and blaming herself for not allowing Gavin to come. The wife on the other hand kept her composure. She calmly asked about her husband’s prognosis. They warned her that Gavin might be impaired after the shooting.

Gavin went under for several minutes. There’s no telling what kind of brain damage he suffered and his wife said that he wouldn’t want to live like that. Gavin never put it in writing, but he reportedly told his wife that he would rather die as himself than lived impaired and so Darlene wanted to sign a DNR for her husband. That way he would never have to live impaired. He would just die. Darlene agreed to this and then Scott spoke to an officer who found Gavin. Gavin wasn’t found with any defensive wounds. Either he was he never saw it coming or he never suspected the man who did would shoot him.

The suspicion was put in both Scott and Crockett’s minds. It made them remember how scarily calm Darlene was and so when Gavin later started to flatline – they ignored express orders from his wife. The doctors continued to work on their patient until he was among the living again. Darlene was furious. She expressed her wishes. The doctors chose to ignore them and so the doctors had to face questions from the lawyers. The lawyer was refusing to back Scott on this. They said that he better hope that Gavin wakes up or Darlene could sue them over this. The only thing Darlene was guilty of was being calm.

The police later cleared her of being the shooter. She was seen on camera having breakfast with her sister and she couldn’t have driven back in time to murder her husband. Scott panicked over nothing. He only did so because he was feeling apprehensive about Milena. Scott asked his cop friend if it was normal that an undercover cop would carry around fifteen grand with her. The cop said it wasn’t. It was too much of a risk on the street and the undercover might have gotten robbed and killed over it. Scott was thinking of that when he overreacted. It turns out Gavin and Darlene live in a bad neighborhood. It could have simply been one of those nights.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Goodwin was dealing with her own personal crisis. If she hadn’t then she would have been the one to take Scott to the task. But Goodwin was busy with her daughter. Her pregnant daughter Tara came to see her and the daughter started to bleed at lunch. She was only twenty-six weeks. Goodwin was worried and she had some of her best doctors look at Tara. There were a few things that Tara never told her mother. Like how she has fibroids. Like how she’s had several bleeding incidents. Tara’s fibroids were becoming a problem. It was growing and it needed to be removed or else it risked the baby’s development.

Asher suggested surgery. Tara agreed to the surgery. Neither Archer nor Goodwin agreed with it. They thought it was too much of a risk and Tara said it wasn’t for her. Tara wanted to protect her baby’s life more than her own. It was her mother’s instincts kicking in. She was rushed into surgery. Asher found a second fibroid. Archer thought it was too risky and that they should stop while they were ahead. Goodwin agreed with him. She refused to sign off on the extended surgery and so Asher adjourned an ethics council. The council agreed with Asher. She got to finish the surgery her way and they saved both mother and baby. And unfortunately, Tara will never have any more kids.

Tara was fine with that. She was glad about just her one. Asher meanwhile took the doubt in the surgery as doubt against her and so she confronted Archer. She asked him when will she gain his respect, but he wouldn’t give her a clear answer.

Halstead and a newly returned Choi however had helped an abused wife escape deportation back to her husband. The Choi from before would never have done this. He was a stickler for the rules. And so this change had caught Halstead and Maggie by surprise.

As for Scott, he was able to prove that no one shot Gavin. Gavin shot himself. He was trying to make it look like a burglary because suicides don’t get insurance payouts. Gavin confirmed everything when he later woke up, but his wife said the money didn’t matter. Only he did. Scott saw their reunion and it prompted him to reach out to Milena. He apologized for his earlier behavior. He said he wasn’t going to do it again and she took him back.
