Masterchef Junior Recap 03/31/22: Season 8 Episode 3 "All's Fair At Ren Faire"

On tonight’s Masterchef Junior episode as per the FOX synopsis, “In the first field challenge of the season, the remaining 14 junior chefs split into two teams to prepare a medieval-themed dish for a crowd of lords and ladies.

This challenge puts the cooks’ teamwork skills to the test, as they prepare a feast for the crowd, who will ultimately vote for the winning team.”

All of the contestants arrive at a renaissance fair where they will cook. The kids watch two knights on horseback as they compete in a joust. They get off their horses, taking their helmets off. It’s Gordon Ramsay and Aaron with Daphne as a princess. They are given their challenge – cooking for a large number of people. They break into two teams, red and blue. Two leaders are chosen; Eva and Maclain.

Eva and Maclain choose their team members. They have 60 minutes to pull off their meals. The teams run to their station and discuss what they plan to make. While Maclain doesn’t want to micromanage, Eva takes a very managerial approach. The judges’ check-in. Aaron helps the red team roll meat for a scotch egg.

Gordon checks in on the other team, making sure they are cooking their scotch eggs right. Meanwhile, Maclain’s team wishes he would tell them what to do. Ivy and Cruz serve up their eggs with smiles to the patrons. The patrons comment on both teams’ eggs, sharing that are very tasty and seasoned well.

It’s back to the stress of cooking their entrees. The judges visit each team and test their food. Eva leads her team, telling them what the judges have shared. Maclain also calls for a meeting after he learns their gravy is lackluster from the judges. Gordon checks on a pot of rice and sees it is mushy. He throws it out on the ground.

The judges discuss the challenge; Gordon wants Maclain to step it up. Daphne wants them to speed it up. Gordon visits the stations and gives some of the pep talks. The teams start to plate. Gordon points out the cold plates.

Gordon is upset with the red team when they run out of vinaigrette. Maclain hands his leadership to A’dan. A’dan takes control. Daphne checks in on the guests. One person has bloody chicken. She brings it to Gordon. He yells to the teams. The blue team runs out of rice. The red team finishes strong.

The votes begin to pour in from the lords and ladies who say down for a feast. Many comments on the delicious chicken, bristle sprouts, rice, and more. The judges call the teams to the front. The winner will be announced through sorcery. The team leaders attempt to pull a sword from a stone. Gordon steps in. The red team is the winner!

One of the members of the blue team will go home. They head back to clean their stations. Later, the teams return to the MasterChef kitchen. The judges stand before them. The blue team stands at the front. The team discusses their lack of communication. One of them now has to go home. Several names are called. Molly and Freddy are commended for pushing through. The four remaining are reprimanded for not helping. Jillian is told she is going home. She cries. The judges know she will continue to grow. She says goodbye.
