Max is treating Rafael, one of the people hit by the car, Floyd is paged to take a look at him and he tells him that he is going to need a cast for that arm. His grandmother, Anna, is in worse condition, she starts to walk and is in severe pain.

Iggy is in his office when he sees a child freaking out. Jael was a perfectly happy baby, but he keeps getting worse ever since he started school. They have tried everything, but nothing works and they don’t want to medicate him unless absolutely necessary. Jael is deaf and he doesn’t know ASl.

When Max returned to the office, there was a lawyer that tried to solicit Rafael and her grandson. She thinks they can get a big payout because there was no crosswalk. Max tells her that he is not there for the money, he just wants the intersection fixed. For five grand, she agrees to do it.

In court, the city moves for the case to be dismissed because the driver and victim are not there. Max speaks up, he wants the city of NY to protect the lives of citizens with a new coat of paint. The judge orders the city to paint it.

Max is thrilled, this feels so good. This is the third time the layer has won a case about the intersection and the city has painted it yet.

Elizabeth tells Rafael that his grandmother’s injuries were worst than expected, she cracked vertebrae in her spinal column. At her age it is dangerous, but they can treat it. The first option, she wears a back brace for the rest of her life, or to have spinal surgery. His grandmother is unconscious so her healthcare proxy has to choose and she chooses him to make these medical decisions for her. Rafael is upset, he doesn’t know what to do. Floyd tells him that he has to trust himself enough to make the decision. Rafael says to do the surgery.

Jael is sitting alone playing with blocks, his mother and father tell Iggy that his pediatrician said that he didn’t need to learn ASL, they just needed to encourage him. Iggy asks them if the therapy, and exercises are working, if can they hold a conversation with him. His mom says he has 78 words in his vocabulary, an average two-year-old has 150. Iggy says his behavior is normal, he needs a language of his own even if they don’t understand it, and his world is closing.

The lawyer, Callie, sets up a meeting for Max with the Deputy Commissioner for roadway repair and maintenance for the city of New York. Max tells him about the order to repaint the intersection. Callie tries to bribe the commissioner and Max will have nothing to do with it and walks away.

Lauren and Mark are treating a patient who had a stick stuck in his abdomen.
