In tonights SWAT episode, sometimes the police weren’t equipped with what they failed in the field. Hondo’s old friend Leroy was there when a couple of beat cops started hassling a homeless man and Leroy tried to defuse the situation. He told the cops that Dave wasn’t a threat. He was a vet. He was troubled.

He doesn’t mean anything by grabbing his stick for protection and they still hauled Dave off to prison. Luckily, Hondo was there to stop Leroy from getting arrested as well. Hondo told Leroy that he would check on Dave and Leroy didn’t see the need because he already knew what was going to happen. The cops were going to book Dave. His mental problems meant he would go to a psych ward and once there a doctor would diagnose him. And he would be released back out on the streets.

The whole arresting him part was just delaying the inevitable. Leroy didn’t see the point of it. Nothing Hondo said or did could rectify it and so Hondo chose to instead do what he can. He did his job as a cop. He and his team were asked by the DEA to assist them with an investigation. The federal agents were looking into stolen rockets. They traced them back to LA and they believe that the man that has them was involved in the cartels. The man was Alvarez. The team and the DEA were later able to raid the cartel and they found evidence of a buy. They just didn’t find all of the stolen items.

Alvarez denied knowing what he was selling. He also said it wasn’t official job by his cartel friends. He was doing some work on the side and he figured he’d use his contacts from the cartel to move items, but he never went into the specifics or got any names. The raid that brought him down also saw to the death of a police officer and that death was hitting Tan hard. He worked with the woman that was killed. It wasn’t anyone on the team but it still affected him because the officer was pregnant. She just found out. She didn’t want to come off the raid because she didn’t want to leave the job half finished and so Tan found out about by talking to her widow.

It made him think about his own situation. Tan later confessed to Chris that his wife Bonnie has a miscarriage the other day. It was early into the pregnancy and they hadn’t officially told anyone because it was considered bad luck to say anything before the twelfth week. Not that the last part did them any good. Bonnie was taking time off as she grieves and Tan threw himself into work. The case took a turn when the team learned that another group was chasing the weapons. The Israelis were looking for the weapons. They were technically supposed to get them in the first place because the weapons were on their way to Israel.

But they were stolen first. The Americans told the Israelis to stand down. They had no cause to operate inside of the United States and they should contacted the FBI the moment they landed in LA. Once the team was able to get through to the Israelis, they continued looking for the weapons. They found out that the weapons was bought by someone from the Eris Group. They were private contractors that wanted to be known for leading military technology and so everyone figured that they paid for the weapons in order to copy and steal data from it. It wasn’t until that the team showed up at the Eris Group headquarters that they learned something different.

The CEO of Eris Group denied all knowledge of the theft. He said he had nothing to do with ordering or knowingly stealing the proprietary of someone else. This didn’t mean people working under him didn’t steal stuff from other weapon dealers. The CEO was asked who would know. He mentioned the head of IT. He said the man’s name is Chip Webb. The team went looking for Webb and they learned he cleared out of the building the moment he heard SWAT was at the door. There was also security footage of Webb loading the weapons into the back of his car. They put out a BOLO. They also did a deep dive on Webb and that was more thorough than his employers.

Chip Webb wasn’t the man’s real name. His real name is Jason Wells. He’s a former Marine who had been taken hostage by a terrorist group known as Abu Sibi and Abu Sibi were known for the kidnap for profit game. Only Wells didn’t have family that could pay for it. He was an orphan with no siblings. His extended family didn’t have the means of putting money together and the American government’s official policy was that they didn’t negotiate with terrorists. Wells was left in his kidnapped state to suddenly he was released a few years later. He claimed that Abu Sibi simply allowed to him to go and it was when they checked his social media that they learned that the terrorists had brainwashed him into believing the cause.

He was suddenly against American aggression. He even spoke about America needing a wakeup call and so it was clear he was now working with the same terrorists that once abducted him. Wells was a lonely man with no real family since his mom died. He was easy to manipulate. The team was able to track down him and his friends to a rooftop where they aiming to take down a plane but fortunately the team was able to stop them in time and no one got hurt. Chris also told Tan that if he needed to talk that she will be there and that the whole team will support him and Bonnie.

Hondo also came up with an idea to form a new initiative in his community where everyday volunteers offer to take mental health calls so that the police don’t have to. He even asked Leroy to be a part of it. Leroy was hesitate at first but he later offered to help with this initiative.

And Luca realize that one of his mentees was trying to parent-trap with her mom, but the teenagers was doing this because she was afraid Luca would get married and have his own family one day and that he wouldn’t have time for her anymore. And so he had to promise to always be there for her and her mom.

THE END!
