In tonight’s Station 19 episode, Jack left. He was going through some things. He just found out that his parents gave up and kept his brother. His brother was well-adjusted. He was married. He has kids. The brother was what Jack always envisioned for himself and was never able to accomplish. Jack was instead forced to face this world on his own while his brother got to grow up in a loving environment. Acknowledging that had been hard on Jack. He left because he needed some time to get his head cleared and there was an upside to his leaving. He left an open position for a lieutenant. It was handed to Andy. Andy was back at Station 19!

Andy was back. She was helping her friends on the job. She also helps them with their private lives. Take, for instance, her reminding Maya that it was time to fertilize her wife. Maya and Carina are trying for a baby. Things were already tense because Maya thought she would become captain again and her plan to blackmail the Fire Chief didn’t work out. Not that she told Carina what she was doing. Carina just knows that Maya hates her demotion. She also thinks Captain Beckett hated Maya for no reason. Carina didn’t know that Maya tried to steal Beckett’s job. Sullivan knew. He didn’t go running to tell everybody about it.

Sullivan hadn’t wanted to tell them how Maya was able to blackmail the new Fire Chief. He didn’t want anyone to know that he was secretly dating Fire Chief Ross or else they might suspect Ross promoted him based on their relationship and not on his abilities. Sullivan was keeping the relationship secret for a reason. He was also keeping his head down on the job. Sullivan along with everyone else got called to the scene of a car accident. It was a pretty bad accident. The only people who didn’t show up for it were Ben who doesn’t go running into situations like that anymore and Montgomery.

Montgomery was running as an Independent for an elected official. He had to go to a Fundraiser. He was actually still there when the Tornado alarm went off through the city and his first responder instincts kicked in. Montgomery ordered everyone into the house. He was hoping for a basement and unfortunately, there wasn’t one. All he could do was ask them to crouch down. Something that not everyone wanted to do. Remember Dixon. He was former Fire Chief Dixon. He’s back working with the police and he was running for the same position as Montgomery. He was at that fundraiser. He wanted to ignore the tornado warning.

Thankfully, Montgomery was able to convince him to not to. Montgomery kept everyone at that fundraiser safe. The tornado eventually passed. He went back outside where he heard someone calling out for help. It turns out it was Halle. Halle was involved in the car accident that the rest of the team responded to and she got trapped in her car when the tornado passed. The tornado picked up the car. It dropped it a few blocks away and miraculously Halle was okay. She was more concerned about her car than she was about herself. She thought her husband would be upset about the car. He wasn’t. He was just so happy Halle survived a tornado that he was fine with the car.

But Dixon wasn’t happy with the state of things. He got mad that Montgomery got to play the hero in front of the donors. He privately accused Montgomery of making a bigger deal of Halle’s rescue because he thought Montgomery did it to win votes. He even said that he and Montgomery are a lot alike. Something he knew Montgomery would hate. Montgomery simply did his job. He rescued Halle from the car because the woman was having a panic attack inside and it would have gotten worse if she hadn’t talked to her husband. Montgomery did his job. He stands by that. He was a firefighter who took the job seriously. He just had no ambition with the job. He wasn’t like Maya or Andy.

Or even Sullivan. All three wanted to be Fire Chief one day and not Montgomery. Montgomery didn’t even want to run as an elected official until he heard that Dixon was running. He figured Dixon might win if good people didn’t stand up for a rightful cause. It’s also why he became a firefighter. He wanted to help people. It’s why they all became firefighters. The team were responding to the many injuries caused by the tornado when they got called to a familiar house. They didn’t understand why the house looked familiar until they met its owner. The owner was Eva. Eva had been the cheating wife of a fellow firefighter. And that firefighter died on the job.

Eva was now a widow. She called for help because she said her boyfriend was trapped to the bed. A tree had fallen on him. Eva also said her boyfriend was Jack. As in, their Jack. The same Jack that told them he was in Kansas looking for his foster sister. Only it seems he never left Seattle. He quit his job and immediately shacked up with Eva. Jack is spiraling. He knows he’s spiraling. He just doesn’t want to fight anymore and Eva is easy. She doesn’t judge him. He practically killed her husband on the job and she doesn’t judge him. The firefighters got the tree off of him and they took off his handcuffs because he had been handcuffed to the bed.

They returned to the station to hear about Ben’s day with Carina as well as Montgomery’s day. Carina also confronted the captain about why Maya was being shunned and Beckett told her what Maya did. Maya tried to blackmail their Fire Chief. Which was news to Carina. Maya never told her wife what she did. She’s just been angry for months without ever reflecting on what she did. Carina was so upset with her that she told Maya to get professional help or else they weren’t going to have a baby together.

The Fire Chief stopped by. She congratulated Montgomery on his rescue of Halle. It apparently gave their department a lot of great press and she needed that as she battles with the city over the budget. And before she left, Sullivan tried to talk to her, but Ross didn’t want to talk.

Ross chose to end their relationship to stop Maya’s blackmail and now they can’t even be friends.

THE END!
