The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers reveal that we have to ask: Is Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) secretly hiding John “Finn” Finnegan’s (Tanner Novlan) survival? Could B&B be setting up a back-from-the-dead bombshell?
Fans were shocked when the show killed Finn off out of the blue, but soap deaths don’t always stick.
SOD has confirmed Tanner Novlan is out, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Finn is gone forever.
This could turn out to be a temporary exit if a huge twist is ultimately exposed.
When B&B does super dramatic storylines like this, they have a habit of being misleading.
The show heavily promoted a “shocking murder mystery” that turned out to be Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) accidentally hitting suicidal Vinny Walker (Joe LoCicero) with Bill Spencer’s (Don Diamont) car.
Of course, we can’t forget how they set Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) up for a sad terminal illness storyline and turned it into a total scam.
The story on B&B can certainly pivot along the way – and that’s been proven time and time again.
That brings us to Li’s bizarre behavior at the hospital on the April 7 episode.
Li supposedly just found out her son was dead from a gunshot wound, but she honestly didn’t even seem that distraught!
Why didn’t we see Li weeping over her son’s body like all the grieving soap mothers who have come before her?
Li was less focused on Finn’s death and more focused on lashing out at Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown).
The Bold and the Beautiful writers tend to be very deliberate in their dialogue choices.
That’s why we get repetitive lines where Brooke Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) obsesses over what triggered her to drink or wonders about the outside force trying to break up her marriage.
In other words, the dialogue tends to contain lines that are carefully chosen to fit with the big reveals that come later. The characters often say things that turn out to be significant in the end.
That’s why it was suspicious when Li repeatedly talked about how she was “taking care of” her son now the way she always had.
Li had other lines about “looking after” Finn and even kept referring to him in the present tense.
How is Li taking care of and looking after Finn? That’s not the same as making funeral and burial arrangements.
Li’s acting like she’s still tending to Finn somehow – and that leaves the door open for Finn to make a hidden recovery off canvas.
If Finn was secretly revived in the ambulance, that could set up the shock of a lifetime for Steffy down the road.
Maybe Li is protecting Finn and feels it’ll be safer for everyone to believe he’s dead for now.
The show can play all the drama of Steffy’s challenging new chapter, which will put her back in Liam and Hope Spencer’s (Annika Noelle) orbit.
Once that story fizzles, maybe it’ll be time for Li to reveal Finn has made a miraculous recovery.
In other words, we acknowledge that the show killed Finn off. No one is trying to deny that they wrote a deadly exit for Finn.
It’s just a question of whether that deadly exit might be undone – much like deadly exits have been undone for Sheila, Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen) and so many others over the years.
Coming back from the dead is definitely a common soap trope, so it’s worth keeping in mind here.
Nobody can rule it out when plenty of other characters have survived just as gruesome situations.
