Tonight’s The Resident episode begins with day 1, Conrad arrives at AJ’s home where AJ is with Carol and her new hospice nurse. AJ goes to update the hospice nurse on her file, Conrad speaks to Carol who says that she is worried about AJ. This is very hard for him. She says she is a realist, she has one clear goal, she wants to spend her last moments with him with no pain.

Leela finds out from Dr. Johnson that her body is responding well to the hormones, if all goes well they should be able to retrieve the eggs within a week. Padma is thrilled, she says her donor is in the hospital but he has a personal situation that makes it complicated. If they can’t get in touch with the donor within a week, they will have to freeze the eggs. Outside the room, Padma tells Leela that AJ hasn’t fully committed to be a sperm donor yet. Leela is frustrated and tells Padma to figure this out now.

Aj and Conrad are speaking about pain management, Conrad tells him that his mom is worried about him, she is worried about how he is handling this. They hear a noise, Carol is having seizures. Aj is desperate to get his mother more time, Conrad tries to reason with him, any intervention right now might cause more harm.

Devon is called to a case, the man, Bryce, has a fever and his BP is dropping, all of a sudden he has ringing in his ears and passes out. Devon consults with Conrad and they do some tests on Bryce to see what is going on with him.

Randolph is in a meeting regarding Emily, they are closing the case. Randolph tells Kit that the board lied.

AJ makes shakes with his mom, he thinks she is not getting enough calories, but she falls asleep.

Bryce has rabies, it is rare. The odds are not in his favor, it all comes down to when he caught the virus. His girlfriend, Janice, doesn’t like that Bryce is tied up, but rabies can cause aggression. They find puncture wounds at the bag of one of the legs and believe that is the entry point. Bryce is getting worse there is foam around his mouth.

Leela meets with Padma, she says she didn’t call AJ because of his mom but she is not giving up on the process. Padma says when she freezes a bagel and then eats it, it’s not the same, she is not freezing those eggs.

Carol is up, AJ wants her to go back to bed. She raises her voice, she says she feels good and she wants to go outside.

Randolph meets with a man who is a writer, he says he has case files, and witnesses and wants him to write a story about it. The bad doctors are few but they needed to be weeded out.

AJ is pushing his mother in a wheelchair outside. She tells him that dating is fine, but he has to open himself up to love. He tells her not to worry about him, he is going to be ok. She says they need a trip to Savannah, they haven’t been there in so long. She starts coughing and gasping for air, he takes her back inside.

The hospice nurse comes to visit AJ and tells him that the burst of energy his mom has is normal, it usually happens before the end, they also talk about travelling somewhere. So, if he has anything he wants to say to her, he should do it now. AJ goes over to his mom, hold her hand and says some endearing things to her about how much he loves her.

Leela goes in to see Devon and he says after all this, looks like Bryce is going to die anyway. He asks her what if he offers to be the sperm donor for Padma. She says no, her egg and his sperm would be their baby. She tells him he is tired, and she is going to have to believe that because this is a bizarre idea. He asks her if she can just discuss it with Padma, she says no, she doesn’t want to discuss it.

Bryce is not doing any better, they are still trying to save his life with more meds.

AJ is sitting in a chair beside his mother, holding her hand, he falls asleep. In the morning, AJ realizes that his mom has past.

Conrad goes in to see Bryce, Devon is asleep in the chair beside him. He tells Devon that Bryce is getting better, his body is fighting the infection. They won’t know for sure yet, but this is a good sign.

Randolph calls Frank who is furious that he went to the press. Randolph tells him that it is their victory, bad doctors will be brought to justice.

Padma had time to think, she tells Leela freezing is the only option. She would have liked to have found another donor, a nice person.

Bryce is back.

Day 6, Randolph is on TV news and says the board is bought and paid for, and it has to stop. He basically called out the whole medical board and the governor.

Bryce is doing well, Conrad tells him that he beat one of the most fatal diseases on the planet. Leela congratulates Devon, she tells him that they don’t even have to discuss it, Padma is going to freeze the eggs. She asks him if he really wanted to father her sister’s child, and he says he wanted to help in any way he can. She rushes off, and says she has to go to surgery.

Conrad and his daughter drop by to see AJ. Conrad tells him that everyone at Chastain misses him. AJ says he misses listening for her, her every move, her every breath, and now It is silent.

Padma and Leela walk in the see Dr. Johnson, and AJ is there. They give their condolences, and he says it is not too late, he would like to be her sperm donor. She says yes. He says there is one condition, now that he is alone, he just doesn’t want to be a donor, he wants to be a father.
