In tonight’s NCIS: LA episode, Fatima was out of the office. She normally leaves behind an excuse list for Roundtree. That way Roundtree knows what to say when Admiral Killbride asks, but he lost the list and so he had to come up with a story on the fly and the real reason Fatima wasn’t in the office because she was getting coffee with a new friend.
Roundtree meanwhile was walking on thin ice with the admiral. He told the Admiral that Fatima wasn’t there because her dog got hit by a car. He said this after claiming she had a car appointment. He said that also after saying she had a medical emergency. And so a case helped to take the pressure off of Roundtree.
NCIS was informed when two Russian Nationals were killed on a yacht in Arkady Kolcheck’s name. Arkady was supposedly out of the espionage business, but why would his boat be the crime scene of two murders. Roundtree had suggested they call in Callen for this one. Only Admiral Killbride said not to. He said he’d talk to Arkady.
Killbride later found Arkady at a bar and he tried to talk to him. He really did. It just didn’t work out because Arkady was that drunk. He also denies have any yachts and so Killbride grew tired of having to deal with him and he called in Callen. Callen got Arkady clean. And he stashed him at the boat shed.
Kensi and Deeks went to the crime scene. They searched it for evidence and they found a hidden camera. The camera also showed that there was one survivor from that blood bath. Her name was Mira. Mira was Arkady’s ex-girlfriend. He recognized her from the footage. They haven’t seen each other in forty years.
It was long before Arkady met Ana’s mother. Arkady said she was spy when he last knew her. He had no clue she was in the United States or why someone would want her dead. It turns out Mira was acting as an antiquities dealer and she got robbed. Some people she was trying to make a deal with had thought it best to skip the deal part and just shoot their way into getting a Fabergé egg.
Those eggs were specifically crafted for the Russian Imperial Family. They were worth millions and Mira only trusted that deal with them because they had been cleared by the auction house. Or at least that’s what Mira told them when they were finally able to track her down. They tracked her down and reintroduced her to Arkady.
She beat Arkady up when she saw him. They ended on bad terms. So bad in fact that Mira uses the name Arkady Kolcheck as an alias. If anyone wanted to look into her money or her businesses, it would all lead right back to Arkady himself. And so Mira got Arkady into serious trouble.
According to Mira, she started to help clients liquidate their assets. She did so after a number of Russian oligarchs were being killed before they could escape with their billions. Mira stepped in. She took advantage of the situation. Now people want her and her silent “partner” dead. And this is all because of Ukraine.
Russian was losing the war in Ukraine and they were killing people off with the hopes of stealing their valuables and put that towards the war effort. And so not only is the enemy was unstable, but they also have access to some of Mira’s hideaways and she needed to clear out some boxes before they could be found.
Mira couldn’t go herself. She therefore sent Arkady to act like he was her partner all along. But trusting Mira proved to be a mistake. It wasn’t until Arkady got all dressed up and even went with Deeks who was pretending to be a Swedish prince that everything went wrong. They got to Mira’s storage facility. They tried to get the items she asked them to get and unfortunately the same people that wanted Mira dead earlier had showed up then. They showed up with Mira. Mira planned on betraying Arkady and getting away with the goods. But first thing first – she turned on her captors and she helped Kensi arrest them before she too ultimately got arrested.
And through all of that, Arkady still wanted to give her a chance to run and she turned him down. But she did give him an expensive necklace. A necklace that can fund his dream of a bar.
