In tonight’s The Rookie: Feds episode, Simone reached out to LAPD Detective Naomi Voss. She knew Naomi was knew to LA. She wanted to be her friend because she likes helping people and she thought Naomi was one of the good ones. She also figured they were both starting over in their careers.

Simone with the FBI. Naomi with LAPD. Although Simone has been doing a better job acclimating. She actually grew up in LA and she didn’t mind the exorbitant prices or that everything had a fancy name. Naomi on the other hand had thought it was all bougie.

Naomi considered LA to be pretentious. She didn’t seem to like working with others and she only agreed to breakfast with Simone because she hadn’t taken the time to get to know anyone else in the city. Simone therefore became the perfect person to befriend. They were later having lunch together when a dog came up that had blood on it.

Simone was worried about the owner. Both fed and detective followed the dog back to a dog walker. The poor woman had gotten jumped and the only thing missing was the keys to her clients’ houses.

Simone got a list of the dog walker’s clients. She wanted to follow it up on her own and that’s when Naomi took over. Naomi reminded her that this was LAPD territory. It was an assault on a dog walker and a potential robbery. It wasn’t federal crime. Or so she thought until she actually tracked down those clients. The thieves had broken into the home of the Belarus Counsel General. They stole a diplomatic pouch and so that’s when this became a federal crime. Simone called her bosses. She told them about the situation and they quickly took over.

Naomi was allowed to stay on the case. She just had to follow Garza’s orders. Garza also had to make peace with the State Department. He was former counterintelligence. He knew his country didn’t want to anger Belarus. Particularly as Belarus was so close allies with Russia. Things were tense with the country as it and now things were worse because of this robbery.

Garza basically assigned his team to deal with the recovery of the diplomatic pouch. He contacted the Counsel General. He spoke with the other man with the assurance that they would find the people responsible for the theft.

But he needn’t have bothered. The Counsel General suspected who was behind the theft. He also knew that it wasn’t his bag that was stolen and instead that pouch belonged to his son, Kosta. Kosta was a troublemaker. He’s been arrested for everything from assault to theft. He always manages to escape charges thanks to his diplomatic immunity and the American authorities can only arrest Kosta if Belarus rescinds his immunity. Until then, everyone went looking for the pouch. They eventually got close to a couple of suspects only to have said suspects get thrown off a roof.

The feds didn’t get the pouch back. Except they knew what was in the pouch. It was a bunch of counterfeit templates for the twenty dollar bills. Kosta was illegally making counterfeit bills and he must have been bragging to someone about it because they went straight for the pouch at the house he shares with his father. Now, Belarus was extreme on crimes. They would punish Kosta if they heard what he’s been doing and the fact that he was embarrassing them. And so his father was trying to save as well as his own reputation by getting those templates back for himself.

The feds suspected that they had something to do with the thieves “falling” off of rooftops. They knew that the Belarusians were throwing a party at the consulate and that Brendan could get in. His show “Vampire Cop” was really big over there. He could go undercover as himself and normally that would have been fine for him, but he’s been struggling lately. Brendan’s sponsor fell off the wagon. Randy was back to counting days instead of years and the whole thing made Brendan feel disheartened about his own sobriety.

Who can he turn to now if he didn’t have Randy anymore? He wondered if he had taken on too much. He even tried to walk away from Antoinette after he confessed to her what happened to his sponsor and she later told Simone about it. Simone and Brendan are best friends. Simone wanted to pull Brendan from the case while he deals with his sobriety. Brendan only talked her out of it because he reminded her that they had to prove themselves on this job every day and he couldn’t afford to look like a mess while doing it. And so Brendan went undercover to the party at the consulate.

Laura went with him as his supposed agent. They got to the party. Brendan pretended to drink while it was up to Laura to steal back the templates for the counterfeit money. Only Laura got ambushed. By Kosta. Brendan had to go in after her and then they both got caught in the office. Their boss had to negotiate their release from what was technically sovereign territory. And once that was done, they realized that Kosta had betrayed his own father to steal back the templates.

Kosta was going to keep making fake bills if they didn’t stop him. So, that’s what they did. They tracked down his people and they busted up his operation. Kosta blamed his father’s second in command. He tried to kill her and she bought herself enough escaping that they were able to injure Kosta. And then arrest him.

Kosta’s father was no longer Counsel General and so Kosta lost his immunity.

Brendan later apologized to Antoinette and she told him that he’s going to have to earn back her trust.

Simone also realized she was taking on too much. She hasn’t been sleeping. She was running the risk of burnout when Naomi suggested she take up knitting. Knitting helped Naomi and now it could Simone clear her mind before bed.

THE END!
