In tonight’s #TheVoice episode, it was Night Two of the Battles! Up first was Team Gwen. Jacquie Roar had to battle it out against Bias. They were both Country. They had different takes on the genre and so Gwen thought it would be interesting if they brought out the best in each other. Bias was a youth pastor. He recently got married. He didn’t think he’d make it this season and he’s been surprising himself ever since. Jacquie on the other hand was a powerhouse that won a rare four chair turn. She was also a mother. Her daughter helped her pick Gwen as her coach. And Jacquie chose Gwen because she wanted to bring out the grudge side of Country.

Gwen gave these two powerhouses the song called “Need A Favor”. It was one of the latest hits out right now. It was also by Jellyroll. The song has a great message as well sounding great with these two. The audience ate this performance right up. They loved it. Gwen even loved it. It was therefore a hard one to choose between the two. Gwen didn’t know who she liked more and the other judges were no help. They too loved this performance. They only had great things to say about these two. And Reba was the first to say that she thought Jacquie pulled out ahead.

Niall agreed with her only he couldn’t take his eyes off of Bias. Bias has amazing stage presence. Gwen saw that too and that’s why she ultimately chose Bias. Jacquie then came up for Steal. Reba didn’t hesitate at all to use her powers to Steal Jacquie for her own team. Both artists were saved tonight. Will they still be safe in the next round? Who knows! It was up to the next battle to maintain the high standards set tonight. Team Reba was up next. She paired Angelina Nazarian with Alison Albrecht.

Reba thought they were both powerhouses. They were different genres. One swung Country while the other was more Grudge Rock. Only they both have voices that truly blow everyone away. Reba gave her artists the song “You Say” by Lauren Daigle. It was a song that could be sung in church and given with angst. It fit both young women. And they were young. Angelina was just seventeen years old. Allison just barely older. They were singing about angst and it was more about self-confidence being rattles rather than being at rock bottom.

These kids know nothing about rock bottom. Reba had to coach them into feeling the music with their hearts. Not just their minds. She really brought out the best in them during rehearsal and she was starting to feel torn in both directions then. She has two great artists performing. They both sounded amazing. They both admired her and work well with her and then came time for the live battle. They both left an impression however Allison did pull out ahead. She had John admiring vocals from the very first note.

Now, both women had some issues with pitch in the lower registers. Niall did note that. Niall also said he’d pick Allison. Gwen also picked Allison. John didn’t make a choice. He simply thanked both of them for a stellar performance. Reba also said they both did great only she saw that they both rejected the things they went over in rehearsal. They fell back on their usual thing and not what Reba taught them. They both made this mistake. It wasn’t just one of them. They had made Reba cry in rehearsals and tonight the decision was clear. Reba chose Allison.

Next up was Team Niall. He paired Julia Roome with Olivia Eden. They were both young. Julia was the youngest in the competition at thirteen. Olivia was only older by two years at fifteen. Julia and Oliva were also friends. Olivia has a younger sister the same age as Julia. Julia has an older sister the same age as Olivia. They quickly became friends. They were actually devastated with being paired against each other. They didn’t want to compete against a friend. Olivia was Folk Pop. Julia was more Storyteller. They have such unique voices that Niall paired them because he knew they would compliment each other.

Niall gave them the song “Kiss Me” by Sixpence. They were so good together that he told them if they both get eliminated this season that they could come back as a duo. He firmly believed they would be unstoppable as a duo. They have these great ethereal voices that sounded great paired together. It just wasn’t much help in picking a winner. One of them could hit the higher notes. The other could conquer the lower registers. Niall was torn in rehearsals and he remained torn after their live performance.

He thought they were great. The others had critiques. Reba felt they had to work on their stage presence. John thought Olivia lost herself a bit in the higher notes and he said he’d go with Julia on this one. Niall agreed with John. He chose Julia. Olivia was eliminated tonight and the fifteen year old only has great things to say about her time on the show. After the ladies, it was Team John’s turn. He paired Stee with Willie Gomez. They were both performers. They loved dancing onstage and so they weren’t surprised when they were paired against each other.

If anything, being paired against each other made them up their game. Willie was Pop. Stee was Latin Pop. John was there to guide both of them with the song he chose. He picked “Tacones Rojos” by Sebastian Yatra. It was a song that has beat to it as well a little Spanish rap thrown in. John has even performed this song himself with Sebastian. In rehearsals, John was thinking the song favored Stee a little too much. He had to cut down on Stee’s time in order for Willie to also shine. And he had to remind Willie not to pull the microphone away from himself during performance.

Sometimes Willie gets too caught up in the music. He still sounded great though. Stee also sounded great. They both enjoyed this duet. They also came up with some dance moves together that brought the whole performance together. They ended up complimenting each other too well. It left John struggling to find a winner. This was also the first performance of the night that had all of the judges giving a standing ovation. The performance was what it looked like when two four chair turns go up against each other.

They both sang in two languages. They both danced great onstage. They have such strong stage presence that John stalled making a decision for the longest time and then he chose Stee. Stee pulled out ahead by inches. He still liked Willie and he can’t wait to work with him after all of this. Next up was Team Gwen. Gwen paired Juliette Ojeda with Kristen Brown. Kristen is Country. Juliette is Latin Pop. They have nothing in common and they were both singing out of the genre tonight. Gwen gave them “That’s The Way It Is” by Celine Dion. It was a powerhouse ballad.

This one song brought up insecurities in rehearsals. Kristen was at least familiar with the song because her mom loves Celine Dion. Her mother used to ask Kristen to play this song and so she knows the lyrics. Not just learning them. It left Juliette at disadvantage and that’s where insecurities started rise. Juliette was plagued by nerves in the rehearsals. She was a little too all over the place and Gwen had to coach her back to being an amazing singer they both knows she is. And frankly it was a miracle they later pulled it off.

The live performance was great to watch. It was a stellar performance on both sides of the duet. But Gwen could only pick one winner and that winner had to be Kristen. Kristen really shined with this song. She had the edge over Juliette even during rehearsals. Gwen had to say goodbye to Juliette because of that and so Juliette was eliminated tonight. Next up was Team Reba. Reba paired Ms. Monet with CORii. CORii was a mom. She had to return home for a short time after the Blinds because she has an almost two year old at home and he missed her while Ms. Monet gets to be the fun aunt with her godkids.

The two women were given “New Attitude” by Patti Labelle. Ms. Monet was familiar with the song. CORii went immediately to work in learning the song. It was a tough song. Both of these ladies surprised Reba in the way they tackled it. They also did amazing work in working with each other. They were like Stee and Willie tonight. They gave one of the best duets tonight and yes there was dancing. They both were powerhouses. They also worked on things they struggled with during rehearsals.

Reba had to choose Ms. Monet. Ms. Monet was just too good to pass up. CORii was the same and that’s why both Niall and Gwen tried to use their Steal on her. They had to battle it out for her. And CORii chose to join Team Gwen.

THE END!
