In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Dr. Frost learned a new tradition at Chicago Med. Both nurses and doctors play a game with a pin. They had to pin it on someone without them noticing.

The person with the pin at the end of the day has to pay for drinks at Molly’s. The game was usually played on payday and so Molly’s was going to be packed. Frost didn’t want to be the one picking up that bill. He got pinned by Trini. He needed to get it rid of it when suddenly the ED was full. There was an influx of patients and neither of the bosses were around to assist. They were attending a case review.

Dr. Lenox was forced to attend a case review about Jordan Bennett’s death. She was basically on trial because Archer reported her. He felt she took too much risk with a teen boy’s life and that she went against protocol to go ahead with surgery.

Lenox didn’t even wait until the parents were notified. She used a camp counselor’s consent to rush into surgery. She wanted to get around Archer. She did that and Jordan paid for it with his life. His parents later arrived at the hospital to find he had already died. And Archer blamed Lenox for the boy’s death.

He’s the one that pushed for a case review. He wanted Lenox fired. He wasn’t shy about that one. He hates her with a passion and it came out at the case review. He spoke over of her. He accused her of killing that boy just so she could be right. He had to be asked to leave because things were getting a little too heated.

The hospital’s rumor mill meant that everyone eventually heard about Archer’s tantrum. Asher was a friend of his and she asked him to don’t be himself when he spoke with Sharon. It was one thing to want Lenox fired. It was another thing to make demands on the hospital administrator.

Archer should never appear as if he’s the problem. Lenox’s case review showed that she did her best. No one intentionally goes into surgery to kill a child. Lenox thought that was Jordan’s only chance and sadly she was wrong. She lost a patient. Archer has lost patients as well. It was an unavoidable downside to being a doctor.

Archer called Lenox out for doing the same things he himself has been accused of. Sharon came to believe the two doctors couldn’t get along because they were too much alike.

Sharon also realized that the two doctors can’t work together. Lenox was so upset about the case review that she lashed out Dr. Howard. Howard was still learning and Lenox offered to show her the ropes.

Then this thing with Archer came about. Now Lenox was being a jerk to Howard. She apologized when she went too far only she wasn’t alone in being temperamental.

Archer told Sharon outright that Lenox shouldn’t be Co-Chief of the ED. Sharon had to talk to Dr. Charles about what to do. Charles was a friend and a great insight on the human psyche.

He advised Sharon to take the temperature of the ED. She spoke to doctors as well as nurses. None of them were willing to call Lenox out on her crap. They were all playing politics and they didn’t want to say anything against Lenox in case she remains their boss.

Howard overheard the conversation between Sharon and Charles. It made her brave enough to later approach Sharon. Howard was talking to her while Charles was dealing with a teen girl. The girl was suffering a problem with her pancreas. It could be caused by alcohol, or it could be genetic.

The girl’s name is Jemma. She’s adopted. She met her biological mother once. It didn’t go well and Jemma has never spoken of the woman ever again. It left Charles curious. He wanted to know about the woman. He checked her social media page. The bio mom has a big family. They were super close.

They seem like good people and it made Charles wonder why Jemma refuses to discuss them. He had a nurse distract her dad so that he could speak to the teen alone. Jemma later told him the real reason she doesn’t talk to her bio mom.

Jemma doesn’t talk to her bio mom because her mother was overweight. The whole family was overweight. Jemma was slim. She was that way because she’s been taking weight loss drugs.

She felt herself gaining weight in high school. She didn’t want to be an outsider or look like her bio mom. She’s been taking the drugs and the last shipment was late. When she went to try on her formal dress, it felt tight. She panicked. She thought she was gaining weight. She thought she would look different to the parents that raised her and she freaked out.

The drugs she was taking was causing her condition. She has to go off them. She should also start therapy to deal with her self-esteem. There was another case at the hospital. This man was brought in after a car accident. He was in the car with his mistress/co-worker. Which made things awkward when his wife showed up. The man was Declan. He has an DNR. He put it in place because he had to watch his own mother survive purely because of machines. He didn’t want the same. He told his wife that when his mom died.

Declan also told his mistress that he wants to fight for life. He survived cancer. He fell in love again. He wanted a future with her and the two women argued what was best for him.

The doctors couldn’t convince either said. Ripley and Frost couldn’t take the mistress’s word. They had to follow the directive from the wife, Sheryl. Sheryl saw Declan’s heart fail. She was upset because she just found out about the affair and yet she couldn’t watch him die. She asked the doctors to save him in spite of the DNR.

The doctors brought Declan around. They told Sheryl it was safe to see him now and that’s when she told the mistress to go ahead. She already gave that man half of her lifetime. She wasn’t going to waste anymore on him. It was similar to Asher’s case. Asher was an addict. She got most of her family to trust her again.

It was just the one sister that refused to talk to her and so Asher felt for a patient who was going through recovery. He had ruined his liver. He needed a new one. He couldn’t go on the list until he’s been six months sober. He’s only done three months so far. And so Asher talked to the man’s son about being a living donor.

Alex just couldn’t do it. He couldn’t make the sacrifice for a father that walked out on him. Asher had to break the news to the patient and she realized she saw herself in the guy. It reminded her that she can still try to win back her sister. She started calling her again. Maybe one day her sister will answer the call.

Archer was left with the pin at the end of the day. He bought a round of drinks at everyone at Molly’s. He did that after he had been demoted. Sharon named Lenox as the sole Chief of the ED. Howard had apparently told her that Lenox was the best teacher she could ever have.

THE END!
