In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Owen has a great idea for the hospital. The hospital just can’t afford it right now. Teddy had already used the discretionary fund to help Meredith with her Alzheimer’s research and it was costly. It was also a secret from Catherine Fox. She had told Meredith to shut down the research.

Meredith pretended like she was going to do that when she didn’t. She went around Catherine to get funding. Teddy helped her to do that and Amelia was one of the few people that knew. And Amelia grabbed all the information she collected before his sudden trip to see Meredith.

Catherine has been sniffing around the hospital. She was giving herself a tour of the place. She’s never done that before and Amelia thought she might be onto them. Hence she packed up everything.

She took the first flight out. She didn’t even wait long enough in Seattle to see Maggie. Maggie was back. Her patient that she’s been with since the beginning of his journey was dying. Maggie wanted to be with him towards the end. Her patient’s name is Brady. He had a heart transplant years ago.

Brady was back because he has congestive heart failure. It sucks because Brady was still young. He fell in love with his boyfriend Ian. They were planning a future before that MRI revealed they were living on borrow time.

Maggie came back to Seattle to be with them. She had some awkward run-ins with her ex-husband. Winston hasn’t signed the divorce papers yet. He said he’ll get around to it and it’s been more than a month now. He tried to tell Maggie that he was going to send them soon. And she told him not to worry about it because her lawyer was just being pushy.

Maggie wasn’t back full-time. She was back for one case. She still demanded an intern while she’s in Seattle and she got Lucas because he was nearby. Lucas recently learned he will have to start over his first year as an intern. He didn’t fail the all-important test. He was being kept back because of the patient they lost.

The one from last season’s finale. Sam Sutton. Lucas was the first to decide to cut into this man without any experience and so it didn’t matter that the others followed him. Or that all the interns were to blame for what happened. Lucas was still the only one being punished.

Simone heard about that. She felt so bad that he alone was getting punished. She suggested they approach the board and Lucas told her to let it go. He may have said differently with Bailey and Teddy only he wasn’t going to look the fool in front of the woman he loves. Lucas chose to focus on Brady. Simone had to go into the OR with another patient named Mason. Mason suffered from hypertension. He also needed new lungs along with a new heart. He was getting everything because a donor died at just the right moment.

Only there was nothing really wrong with Mason’s original heart. Simone was wondering if they could give it to someone else. It gave Winston a great idea. He reached out to Maggie. He had her come into the OR with Mason because he thinks Mason’s old heart could work for Brady. There was some scarring. It just wasn’t a match for Maggie and Winston when they work together. They were brilliant surgeons. They made each better in the OR. They went back to that after their marriage collapsed and they might save Brady’s life.

Brady’s boyfriend was thinking of proposing to him. He had his grandpa’s wedding ring. He even tried it on Brady’s finger to see if it would fit while Brady was sleeping and it did fit. It also got stuck because Brady’s hands were swelling up. Lucas had to get off the ring with Vaseline. He also kept Ian’s proposal a secret. Maggie and Winston was able to make Mason’s old heart function. They gave it to Brady. Maggie also told Lucas that he has a future in Cardio. He always thought he’d go into Neuro because he was a Shepherd. And so Maggie told him to keep an open mind.

Maggie then undid a lot of hard work of the day by making a move on Winston. Winston rebuffed it. He once gave up everything for her and she then asked him to do it again while she made no sacrifices. Maggie was like her bio mother. Meredith also took after Ellis. They were both very selfish. Meredith wanted to publish the findings without ever telling Catherine. She didn’t care that she might cross Catherine or that she might lose her job. She simply thought she would get another one. And so Nick told her that he couldn’t keep packing up his life to get fragments of her.

Unless Meredith wanted to be like Maggie with her divorce, she has to prioritize Nick. Meredith found out her research can detect the dreaded disease and so Teddy told Catherine. Catherine fired Teddy. She didn’t fire the others. It went a lot better than they thought it would. Meredith later talked to Nick again. She fought for her relationship with him. She wasn’t sure she could get married again. She just knew she loved him. She also told him that she wasn’t going to keep putting work before him. And she has to wait to see if that was enough.

Before Teddy was fired, she warned Meredith and Amelia that their time was running out. They had to make a breakthrough in the next few days or Catherine was going to find out about it. Teddy assigned them interns to help speed up the process. She didn’t know that Jules wrote code to do the work for her. She used the actual time she and Blue had off to sleep with him. Not that they were an item. They kept it casual. They weren’t dating in spite of Jules once telling she loves him. She did that in gratitude.

Mika also realized she couldn’t date someone she works with much less a boss. She was assigned to Link’s service and she watched him butt heads with Jo all day long. He could do that because Jo was merely a resident with OBGYN. She wasn’t an attendee. And so Mika dumped Taryn later because she didn’t want to experience that.

And Winston went home with the new head of pediatrics.

THE END!
