In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, there was a fire on the spacecraft. Hen was a firefighter. She knew they needed to vent. They needed to deprive it of oxygen and luckily they were space suits for all of them. It would keep them alive while they dealt with the fire. There was a downside because all the pressure was in the craft. It wasn’t out there in space.
It meant that opening the hatch was near impossible. Athena then got desperate and she opened a different hatch. It worked in the sense that it put out the fire, but the cover was lost and their spacesuits had only an hour of oxygen. They couldn’t afford to wait for help to come back into orbit.
Not that Tripp Houser cared. The billionaire was already doing damage control. He heavily implied that everyone onboard was dead because of the electromagnetic storm. He got ahead of it to make it appear as if they did everything they could and the truth was that he finally taking orders. It just wasn’t from Karen.
It was from his PR Specialist. Tripp didn’t even tell Karen about him cutting his losses. She had to hear it on the news like everyone else. She began to panic and it was Maddie who reminded her that just because the Inara II wasn’t over LA – doesn’t mean it wasn’t over land.
Karen was devising a plan now thanks to that comment. She was doing that while the 118 was dealing with the fallout of the falling debris. They were called by a husband whose wife got stuck on the train.
They just had a fight. They saw outside was chaos. She thought the train would be safer. They didn’t count on the debris creating a crater into the ground itself. It went through the train. Lori was dying down there. Her husband was feeling helpless. They all were because a water main broke and they quickly running out of time.
Buck took the husband back to the fire truck. He put Henry in charge of him. Both of them might lose someone they love that day and Buck figured they could relate.
There was no way of getting the astronauts down. They could only send them up. All the way up to the International Space Station. It was also known as the ISS. They had supplies. They also had oxygen. Neither their suits or the Inara II could survive reentry. Thankfully, their friends in Nashville helped them get in contact with Hen before it was too late.
Karen talked them into getting control of the ship back. Back from Trip at least. They took control and the real astronaut onboard guiding them to the ISS. They eventually lost contact with Karen, but it was going to be okay. The same as it was on the ground. Eddie soon decided the only way to save Lori was to amputate the leg.
Otherwise she would die down there. Her husband was Cal. Cal and Harry got to talking. Harry told him that his mom was in space when this all started and there was a part of him that wanted to speak of her in the past tense. And he just couldn’t do it.
Harry had to put his faith in people. He had to believe they would save his mom. Cal now has to put his faith in the 118. They’ve dealt with worse odds than this. Even people were making it to their firehouse.
The firefighters weren’t there. It was just May and Hen’s two kids. They treated one woman. She tripped over dog to fall into the coffee table. She had a head injury that wasn’t too bad. It was just bleeding a lot. May helped slow down the bleed by braiding her hair nice and tight just like her mother used to do for her as a kid.
Well, that woman talked about getting treated at the firehouse. She posted it on social media and suddenly they were engulfed by patients. Not all of them needed treatment. Some of them merely were scared and didn’t want to ride out potential Armageddon alone. Cal gave the firefighters permission to amputate.
It was the only thing that gave his wife the chance of survival. It was ultimately Chimney that made the cut. He said he’s been waiting for the interim Captain to come to an end anyways.
They amputated and they got Lori to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Maddie also helped get social workers as well off duty doctors to the firehouses all over the city. They were going to help with the overwhelming patients that did need care. Back in Space, they learned that their spacecraft wasn’t attuned to docking on the ISS. They just had to get within spitting distance and walk it.
There was one guy who had a panic attack though he lived to make it onto the ISS. The ISS was also affected by the electromagnetic storm. The ISS was falling apart and there was an escape hatch to finally end this long nightmare.
It just came with risks.
THE END!
