In tonight’s American Ninja Warrior episode, it was night six of the Qualifiers! Up first was Nikki Zink. She was a physical therapist with an unusual fanbase. She has a sister that was a nun and now her sister has converted other nuns at the Vatican to watch as well as cheer on Ninja Nikki. As for Nikki, she started out strong. She then came to head with the infamous Log Runner. The evil obstacle course took her out like it did so many great ninjas. She was then followed by Bootie Cothron. The pine tree farmer was retiring from the sport this season.
Bootie was up there in age. He was the oldest tonight. He’s been doing this for ten years and he wanted a break from the relentless training, but he was going to be sorely missed. He’s been a fan favorite for so long. His fellow ninjas even came out to honor him tonight. They all wore purple shirts. His signature color. This season they also brought back a lot of the old obstacles and that included the one that once took him out. He hated Lunatic Ledges ever since. That same obstacle caused his earliest exit ever.
Bootie went in tonight ready for anything. He luckily made it passed Lunatic Ledges. Bootie’s run went well into the fifth obstacle where he sadly fell. They brought back V Formation. It was a tough obstacle and hopefully this won’t be the end of Bootie’s season. Next up was Jimmy Choi. He was bravely battling Parkinson’s. His tremors got so bad that he retired from ANW. He came out of retirement tonight so that he could compete with his daughter, Karina. Karina was running the course too.
Her dad was her hero. They train together. Jimmy wanted to make her proud tonight. It’s what gave him that spark. Jimmy battled his tremors by making it passed the first two obstacles. His toughest one was Log Runner. He’s never made it passed the third obstacle before and a balance obstacle was always going to be tough. Yet, he was able to tackle it. He did so well. He made it to Crank It Up when his hands slipped on the last piece. It was so frustrating while at the same time so rewarding to see him have his best run so far.
Next up was Sebastian Ramos. He was a rookie. He was also doing online food delivery. He makes his deliveries on his electric skateboard and doing that in NYC was training enough. When he wasn’t working, he was working out at three different ninja gyms in the city. He visited whichever one he was closest to. It paid off because he had a great run for a rookie tonight. He easily took on the toughest obstacles around and sailed through the course like it was nothing. He was literally the first finisher of the night because he was just that good. And he ordered food for Matt and Akbar too.
Allyssa Beird was up next. She was an amazing elementary teacher. She was head of the class as a ninja. She injured her shoulder after season fourteen and she’s been rehabbing it for the past two years. Her fiancé helped her through it. He was there to encourage her from the sidelines. Still, tonight was a struggle for one of the top female ninjas. She took extra turns on Lunatic Ledges. She didn’t try for speed and instead strove to be precise. She expended a lot of energy that way. She had nothing left by time she got on Crank It up and so she was out on the fourth obstacle.
Amir Malik was also back this season. He was last seen on season thirteen. He took time off to focus on himself for a bit. He was back now in a much better place. He found his passion. He’s loved baking ever since he was a kid. He now works at a bakery and he brought some baked goods for the hosts. The cookies were good. They were munching on it all throughout their commentary. They saw that Amir was better than ever. He had no problem with the course tonight. He easily raced through it. He became another finisher. He thankfully didn’t break the buzzer this time. He did that once after he got too excited.
Next up was Bob Reese. He was a social media star with millions of followers. He now has a new co-star for his viral videos and it was his young son, Story. It was hard making videos with a one old year old. Story does whatever he wants to do. Bob just has to go with it or risk having a cranky kid. Bob was also known for his flips. He went viral on ANW for flipping on Stage 1. He was going to go viral again tonight after he flipped on Crank It Up. Even the hosts said it was the most impressive thing they’ve ever seen. It therefore came as a surprise to no one that Bob went on to become another finisher.
Rob Moravsky was a blast from the past that went next. He first competed ten years ago. He was a muscle man back then with long hair. He’s since cut the hair and he was a dapper real estate agent now. He was still handsome enough for the moniker “Adonis” to fit. He came back because he missed ninja. The Ninja world was great fun. He fell on Lunatic Ledges. It happened so early into his run that no one got to see him take his shirt off again. Which was a little disappointing. The same for his attitude after the fall. He was followed by Travis Nguyen.
Travis comes from a huge Vietnamese family. Many of whom came out to support him tonight. He started his own business and was now a finance major at college. He was also a track star. It helped on Log Runner where he leapt from the third piece onto platform without ever touching the fourth. He possibly cleared about nine feet by doing that. He went on to fall on V Formation. He was making good time for a rookie and this might not be the end for him tonight. There were also some shocking falls during the commercial break that needed to be addressed. Shout out to Brett Simms who will hopefully come back next year. No defeat is too great.
The show picked back up with Lucas Reale. He was back for his fifth season. He now coaches kids at his ninja gym. His students showed up to cheer him on. He hasn’t competed the last two years, but it didn’t show on his run tonight. He was energized this season. He wanted to hit a buzzer for his students. He had no problem with his course. It was surprisingly the Warped Wall that tripped him up. He had three tries to go up the wall. He failed on the first two tries. He was on his last attempt when he finally got up there to hit a buzzer. His first buzzer in three years no less. Those kids really did inspire him.
Xavier Dantzler was back. The four time veteran even trained one of the competitors tonight. He trained Brandon Griffin. The rookie was an athlete his whole life. The high schooler started out in gymnastics. He’s done everything else since then and now he was tackling ANW. Brandon often gives Xavier a flashback of his younger self. X has become a big brother to him. Brandon made him proud tonight when he made it all the way to V Formation. He fell by making the same mistake that X once made and that also caused him to fall. And so the two were more alike than they knew.
Abby Clark was up next. She came back with big news. She’s engaged. Her fiancé proposed after twelve years and everyone was so excited for them. They also couldn’t help commenting “finally” because he really didn’t need all twelve years to make up his mind. Abby doesn’t hold it against him though. She was the last female of the night and the first to make it past Crank It Up and V Formation. She got up to the Warped Wall. She’s fallen short a few times in the past. She thankfully just needed her second attempt to make it up there. She was the first female finisher of the night. And the ninth this season.
The final competitor of the night Joe Moravsky. The Weatherman has the most buzzers in ANW history. Robb from earlier was a cousin and, to his credit, he stuck around to watch Joe’s run tonight. Joe lost out on Stage 4 last season by a shocker. He was so close and he wants to get back there. He put up the second fastest time of the night. He hit another buzzer. He had the chance of the Mega Warped Wall. Only he came up short by a foot. It’s been hard to juggle work, family life, and ninja life. Not that he won’t get up there eventually. The longer ANW has the great Joe Moravsky the better.
THE END!
