Some sad celebrity news to report as Australian-American actor, Julian McMahon has passed away at the age of 56.
McMahon played Ian Rain in the now-canceled soap, Another World, and also found success in primetime and movies.
His wife, Kelly McMahon confirmed his death to Deadline, noting the cause of death was cancer.
The actor passed away this week after a battle to overcome the illness.
She added in the statement that, “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”
Kelly requested support to the family at this time by allowing them to mourn in private.
She added, “We wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”
McMahon got his start in acting via Australian soaps like The Power, The Passion and Home and Away; however, hitting the land of Bay City on Another World in 1993 was a major break for his career.
He had a nice run on Another World, enjoying romances with Paulina Carlino (Judi Evans) and Josie Watts (Amy Carlson), until his exit in 1995.
McMahon would move on from daytime drama to work on some high-profile primetime shows like Nip/Tuck, Charmed, FBI: Most Wanted, and Profiler. He also played Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four film franchise.
During a 2020 Soap Opera Digest (SOD) interview, McMahon talked about his time in soaps. He noted, “Soap actors are kind of their own breed, and I’ve never met one who’s not ridiculously passionate about what they do.”
He added, “It’s almost like its own theater company or something. I just really kind of thrived off of that … I just considered it such a blessing.”
As the tributes to McMahon pour in all over social media, Dick Wolf, FBI: Most Wanted’s producer had this to say (via Variety), “What shocking news. All of us at Wolf Entertainment are deeply saddened by Julian’s passing and our condolences go out to his entire family.”
On behalf of everyone here, we extend our deepest condolences to Julian McMahon’s family, friends, peers, colleagues, and fans.
