Everyone was talking about Dr. Asher’s pregnancy. It was particularly juicy gossip at the hospital. She was just with Dr. Ripley and now she was having a baby with Dr. Archer.
Not only is Archer much older than her, but his adult son used to have a crush on Asher. They were those that were going to be dining on this one for a while.
Archer and Asher even have a ship name by the way. It’s called Dasher because Archer’s first name is Dean. Asher heard about Dasher and she begged everyone to not mention it. And they just couldn’t make that promise.
If it wasn’t Dr. Charles joking with Archer about being an older dad, it was Dr. Frost commiserating with Ripley. Asher really did just break up with him.
The time between their breakup and her one night stand with Archer happened so fast that Frost thought Archer must have been circling like a shark.
There’s a part of Ripley that agrees because for a moment he thought the baby was his. He got excited. He wanted to know everything. Asher burst his bubble when she said the baby belonged to someone else. It was made worse when Ripley has to continue working with both of them.
Ripley’s frustrations with the situation came out when he needed a consult. He asked for Dr. Lenox. She was busy with another patient and so he was forced to consult with Archer. The man that impregnated his ex-girlfriend. It was very awkward between them. It just got worse when Ripley’s patient proved to be stubborn.
The patient had surgery to make him taller. He used his life savings on it. He was talking to a woman online for the past year and he lied to her so that she wouldn’t know he had surgery or that he was born short.
He told his now fiancée that he was involved in a car accident. It allowed him to get surgery. By time they actually met in person, he was taller. He was as tall as he lied in his profile.
He then took her out on the lake to propose. He got a little too excited when he tried to go for a swim because now he’s developed an infection in the rods holding up his bones. Archer wanted to remove the rods. He didn’t care about the patient’s height or lack of. He didn’t want the infection to spread or risk the patient’s life.
Something the patient didn’t care about. He literally didn’t care if he died. He just couldn’t return to being short. He said women didn’t notice him and that other men didn’t respect him. He also was worried he’d lose his fiancé if the truth came out. And it would if they removed the rods. Ripley was sympathetic and so he tried to pivot. He simply shouldn’t have done it in front of the patient. He should have taken Archer aside to discuss it. He would have before. He didn’t do it this time because of the earlier issues.
The patient hoped to go with Ripley’s plan. He wouldn’t hear anything else. Nor was he open to listening to Dr. Charles. Charles had a psych consult with him. Charles didn’t believe he was suicidal.
Just that he was vain. Charles had to mediate between Archer and Ripley over surgery. They were angry with each other and were butting heads. Charles had to remind them about the patient. They couldn’t let Weller’s case become an argument about Asher. Asher saw the argument. Charles warned her to give them time. He didn’t think her talking to them would be beneficial at this point.
Asher also had her hands full. She ran into another ex. Dr. Will Halstead returned for a visit and he came across a teenager in distress. Will was in town for a Bears game with his stepson. It was supposed to be a boys’ weekend because Natalie was pregnant. Owen wasn’t taking it well. Owen was still a little boy.
He was fine with his mom having another baby. It was only Will he seems to have distanced himself from. Will kept trying and nothing he did worked. And then things took off with the boy he helped.
The boy’s name is Jasper. His brother became addicted to opioids to keep working. Jasper agreed to swallow tens of balloons filled with cocaine and he was supposed to smuggle it over the board when he developed symptoms. His friends dropped him off at the hospital. Will ran into him. He built a rapport with the kid.
He was able to convince him to have surgery to remove the balloons. He also agreed to stick around the hospital in spite of Owen waiting around for him. Sharon got where Owen was coming from. She helped bridge the gap between him and Will.
Will being back felt weird for Asher. The one thing to take her whole mind off of everything wasn’t her pregnancy. It was a patient. She was treating a woman whose husband was having sympathy pains.
Or at least they thought it was sympathy pains until it turns out the husband had gastric cancer. His wife was having a baby and he was just told he has cancer. He was going to need surgery, chemotherapy, and dealing with all of that on top of a newborn meant his next few months were going to be toughest of his life.
It made Asher appreciate that life was short. Even if Weller was no longer wasn’t. Ripley’s plan worked and it forced him and Asher to work through their issues in the middle of a tough surgery.
It also helped that they both hated Weller’s surgeon back in Baltimore. She was on the phone with them during the surgery. She was really annoying and the same could be said for the woman holding the phone. At the end of the day, Ripley was able to congratulate Archer on the baby. And a gunwoman came to the hospital to take the drugs from Jasper’s stomach.
And they were escaping when the gun went off. The gunwoman shot Owen and Sharon had to call Natalie because Will refused to leave his son’s side.
THE END!
