Yay, it’s Disney Night! Disney Night usually meant recreating dances out of Disney greatest hit films. They even opened with “Be Our Guests” from “Beauty & the Beast”. Yet, this still was a competition. There was a shocking elimination last week. People needed to vote to keep their favs around longer.
The first duo up was Dylan and Daniella. They were dancing to “Life Is A Highway” from the original film “Cars”. Dylan wanted tonight’s dance to feel like they were driving along the highway when they got out and just couldn’t stop dancing. Dylan loves the storytelling aspect of dancing.
He especially had fun with the story tonight because he got to wear that cowboy hat. They put a country spin on it and it worked well with the Quickstep. It looked great to the naked eye. The judges on the other hand had their concerns. Derek felt his movements should be sharper. This goes doubly so for his head movement. Bruno felt the sharper movements with his feet would have also elevated the dance. Carrie Ann was much nicer with her criticism because she enjoyed how much he understood the catalyst behind the dance itself.
Then Carrie Ann gave him a seven while the other two gave him eights. One would think it would be the opposite way around after everything they said. Twenty-three out of thirty still wasn’t bad. They were followed by another Quickstep from Danielle and Pasha. They performed to “I Wanna Be Like You” from “The Jungle Book”. The contestants were having a blast with Disney Night. They loved visiting Disney’s theme parks and meeting the inspirations behind their dances. Danielle even went dressed for the occasion to the park.
Danielle played Blue. Pasha played King Louie. Their dance was great. It also had a first half and a second half. The second half fell a little because there was a mistake. She lost timing. It led to a major error that the experts all noticed. It was her personality that carried them through. It also resulted in a still good score. She got twenty-one out of thirty. Danielle will probably keep working on her mistakes because that girl don’t quit. Next up was Scott and Rylee. Scott spends the most amount of time out of the cast at Disney’s theme parks.
He loves Disney. His dance was a callback to High School Musical because he got to play the adult Ryan’s love interest. Ryan came out to the world in that scene. Thus “Bop To The Top” was his jam. It was a great song for a Salsa and it took Scott out of his comfort zone. He was a choir kid back in high school. He mostly spent time with other choir kids because they understood he came into his own when he was behind a microphone. He now has to step out from behind one to perform for the show and so he just let loose.
Scott and Rylee had fun with this one. Yes, there were mistakes. It wasn’t as clean as it could have been nor was it as good as last week’s performance. They still got twenty-one out of thirty. It remains a great score no matter who was earning it. There was also a dance dedicated to the upcoming “Tron Ares” movie. It was done purely by professionals and was quite entertaining. It was soon followed by Alix and Val. Everyone was expecting a Disney princess from her and so they went a different route by making Alix the villain.
Alix was playing the titular character from “Maleficent”. Val played Steffon. They were portraying the toxic relationship that really was this pairing in the movie. They did so to the Viennese Waltz and the popular song “Once Upon A Dream”. Derek later said this was their best dance so far. Alix proved herself an actress with this one. The judges all agreed that they loved this dance and they showed it with their highest score so far. They received twenty-four out of thirty. They were the ones to beat after that.
They were followed by Hilaria and Gleb. They were another Quickstep. Only they did theirs to Star Wars. Hilaria’s family were huge Star Wars fans. The kids really loved their dad out to the theme parks. They all had fun. It also helped Hilaria and Gleb get into character. The one thing that brought down the dance was that they didn’t dance to the Star wars theme song. The one the whole world knows. It brought down the dance that was otherwise quite good. It just didn’t tell the same story without the theme music.
Hilaria and Gleb still scored twenty-three out of thirty. With their sole seven coming from Derek, but it would have been all eights if a certain something was included. They were followed by Andy and Emma. Andy really got into things last week. He came to love dancing. He cried last time. This time he was dedicating his dance to the long and happy years his family had spent at Disney. They visited every few years that its now their happy place. Andy got to play the Chef from. Which he said makes sense because Emma was leading him the whole time. She played the rat tonight.
They danced the Viennese Waltz to a French song straight from the movie. Andy got the storytelling down right. The dancing part was something he still struggles with. He wasn’t much of a dancer. That could change as he falls more in love with music. He and Emma got eighteen out of thirty. Next up was Robert and Witney. They started at the top of the leaderboard and came down last week. They wanted to climb back up to the top. This time with his shirt still on because his family had plenty to say last time.
They danced the Cha Cha to “Try Everything” from “Zootopia”. They actually got to see “Zootopia 2” before anyone else did. Robert had a role in the film and so he finally got to see the end product. The dance tonight was a strong Cha Cha that could have been a little stronger if Robert didn’t get caught up in the music. He loves himself some Shakira. It got him sevens from Carrie Ann and Derek. It also got an eight from Bruno. Bruno also had no problem with him taking his shirt off. They were left with a score of twenty-two out of thirty.
They were followed by Elaine and Alan. They were left disappointed after last week. They wanted to come back stronger this week and they seem to have done so with their Quickstep. Only their Disney movie hasn’t come out yet. They danced to Space Mountain. It was known as a great ride and now it was being turned into a movie. Keep any eye out for it. Elaine loved this dance most of all. It could be seen in the dance itself. She and Alan had their best dance so far. Everything from routine to execution was great.
It landed their best score. They received a twenty-four out of thirty. Next up was Whitney and Mark. They loved visiting the theme parks. Whitney had less time with the family because of all the dance practices and so bringing the kids to Disney was great for them. It allowed them to spend quality time together. It also gave Mark the idea to try for baby number two with his wife. This duo were the first to take inspiration from a musical that turned into a film. It was “Hamilton”. They danced the Foxtrot.
It wasn’t the traditional Foxtrot. It was Mark’s own brand. He threw in elements of Jazz. They danced to “The Room Where It Happens” and it was their best dance so far. It really inspired Carrie Ann in particular. She gave them their first nine of the season. The other two gave them eights but it doesn’t change the fact that they stood on top with a score of twenty-five. They were followed by Jordan and Ezra. They danced to the “Princess and the Frog”. Jordan got to bring out her inner prince by being Princess Tianna.
They even enjoyed the Tiana’s Bayou Adventures ride. It tells the story of what happens to Tianna and Naveen after they get married. If you don’t see the ride, you don’t get the epilogue. Jordan and Ezra played into that by making their Quickstep with a little bit of spice. It paid off because everyone loved this dance. It reminded them why they included a Disney themed night. It paid off in one great way as well. It gave them a high score. They scored a twenty-four out of thirty. They were followed by Jen and Jan.
They danced Jazz to “Aladdin”. Jen got to play Jasmine. Jan got to play the genie. They danced to “Never Had A Friend Like Me”. To get in the feel of the dance, they visited Disney theme parks with Jen’s family. Her husband was quite happy to enjoy family time too. He really misses his wife with the three kids under three. He may have been on the sidelines however he got into the spirit of the dance by dressing up as Ja’far. This dance was really fun., It had a lot of bag of tricks and it didn’t move Carrie Ann. She said something about the dance didn’t sell.
Derek and Bruno disagreed with her. Carrie Ann gave them a seven and the others gave them eights. They had a score of twenty-three out of thirty and they were slowly making their way up. This along with the votes brought them near the top. In the bottom were Hilaria & Gleb, Andy and Emma, and Daniell and Pasha.
The couple going home tonight were Hilaria and Gleb.
THE END!
