In tonight’s Fire Country episode, it was time for the annual Oak River Renaissance Fair. The adults got to dress up. They got to escape the world. They got to be mythical characters. Eve also got to flirt with her ex. She and Francine may have ended badly, but the door remains open nowadays. They talk.
They weren’t ghosting each other. They were already doing better as flirty friends than when they were actually dating. Eve went to the fair for Francine and so she left Three Rock in capable hands. Sharon was the interim captain of the prisoner program.
There was a second person in between Eve and Sharon. Only that guy was sick. Sharon also volunteered because she wanted to keep a close eye on Manny. Manny went rouge once.
He couldn’t afford for that to happen again. The program almost got cancelled because of Bode’s antics and Manny repeating them might be the death knell of the place. Manny was once a captain himself. He threw that all away when he assaulted Luke. He now has to be at his best if he hopes to become a real firefighter again.
Sharon reminded Manny of that when she took over Three Rock. She also didn’t burst Gabriela’s bubble. Gabriela was finally getting her life together and she was her dad’s parole coach. She was going to help him get paroled. She was even aiming for an early parole. Sharon knew that wasn’t going to be possible with Manny.
Manny assaulted someone with the Governor in the room. It happened at a fundraiser. He was arrested because the bigwigs wanted to make an example out of him and the best way to do that was for him to serve his full sentence.
Sharon also has to deal with her husband. Vince found out she took his dad to the hospital for tests. Vince had warned her that there was nothing wrong with his father and so he became upset when he found out that Bode took his dad to the hospital. He thought his wife must have convinced his son to go behind his back.
He only found out about his dad doing tests by picking up Bode’s phone. Walter’s neurologist called Bode. Bode made the mistake of listing him as the neurologist in his phone and so that’s when it all came out what happened.
Vince hated secrets. He also hated the fact that his father couldn’t come to him about this. Vince knew that Walter was a proud man. He’d probably still be fighting fires if he could.
Vince told Bode that Walter has come back from the brink of death several times. He doesn’t believe his father’s sick now but Bode said that’s why Walter didn’t want his sons to know about the tests. Walter didn’t want to be a burden. He didn’t want his sons taking care of him. The one reason he was willing to get help now because he saw how much he scared Bode.
Vince still thought his father was fine. He was refusing to believe in anything else. He tried to bench Bode and Jake went around him. Jake was a captain. He told Bode to get on the rig.
He didn’t know it only Bode and Audrey have a bet going. They bet each other that they could save the most people. The bet didn’t even last the night because Jake sent Bode to work alongside his dad. Jake was hoping that by working together that they could also work through their issues. And they were all needed because there was an incident at the fair.
Some kids created mass panic by shooting an arrow at a flamethrower. The fire spread everywhere. It spread to where the fireworks being held. There was a stampede and several people were left trapped. There were two knights that got impaled on the same sword. They used an actual sword to be “real” knights.
There was a woman who had a glass shelf fall on her because people stamped through her tent. There was a man trapped in the pillory because his date ran off when she heard the panic outside. There were a lot of people that needed help and Manny couldn’t help any of that.
Manny was told not to touch anyone. Not even to assist them. He’d risk going back to jail if he does. Manny found the woman trapped under her glass display. She was covered in blood.
She was slowly dying and Manny couldn’t do anything. He couldn’t risk disappointing his daughter one more time. He ran off to get help. He got someone to radio for paramedics. The woman got help because of Manny and yet he wasn’t happy about how things went. He felt he prioritized himself over the welfare of someone else. This case was going to sit with him for a while.
Just as the rest of the firefighters were finally restoring order, they ran into a new problem. The fire breathing dragon program. The fair has a mechanical dragon that blows real fire. It got broken during all the chaos and there was no chance of shutting it off. Only Bode had an idea on how to destroy it.
He and Audrey got shields. They reenacted those old films and Bode beheaded the dragon. Audrey was calling him dragon slayer after that. They loved the fair. Eve loved the fair. Eve just didn’t tell anyone in her life about the fair.
Francine told her that she was hiding who she was. The fair was Eve’s safe place. She shouldn’t be embarrassed by that place and so Eve came clean to her friends. She said she loved fantasy.
She loves magic. She also wanted Francine back in her life. The two of them kissed. There was some real hope for them. There was hope for Bode too. Bode lost the bet with Audrey. She saved more people. He slayed a dragon. He told her they were tied and so they had a battle with swords for the winner. They had fun. They kissed. They laughed.
Gabriela realized she wasn’t fun. She’s never been fun. She’s always been about goals. Even her own father thought she was very serious and so she made a promise to herself. She promised to be a little more fun from now on.
Walter’s tests meanwhile came back in and he has dementia.
THE END!
