In tonight’s Law & Order episode, Bob Gladstone was murdered the night before his wedding. He owned a toy company. Detective Riley even reminisced that Gladstone Toys were often found under the Christmas tree at his house.
He has kids and his partner didn’t. The only thing besides the toys that they knew about the victim was that he was overheard arguing with someone late at night. One of the neighboring rooms overheard a heated argument right before they saw someone appearing to be waitstaff leaving. The time between that to when Bob was found dead by his fiancé was less than an hour. His fiancé was devastated.
Bob was much older than his prospective bride. He was also getting married without a prenup. His will would have effectively cut his kids out of his estate if he had married her and so everyone attending the wedding was upset. They all hated this marriage. It was just the bride and the groom that seemed happy about what was going to happen.
With millions on the line, you could see why. His will was written back when he was married to his first wife. It just says everything go to his wife unless he wasn’t married and in that case his estate would be divided equally among his children.
Now, the cops found the waiter. His name was Emille Zellicheni. He took the job at that hotel just so he could meet Bob face to face. Emille’s wife was injured at one of Bob’s stores and was left paralyzed.
The family tried to get compensated. It was what they were owed after all. Bob’s company outlawyered them and he dragged this out until they were forced to drop the civil suit. Emille doesn’t care about getting millions. He simply wanted enough to cover his wife’s medical bills.
Emille followed Bob up to his hotel room. He showed him his wife’s x-rays showing she was paralyzed. Emille claims he was able to convince Bob of his case and he showed that Bob gave him his card with his personal number written on the back. Security footage backs up Emille’s claim. He didn’t do this.
He was seen leaving the hotel moments before Bob made his last phone call. The footage also showed that Bob’s son was seen leaving a few moments later carrying a large bag. It wasn’t the murder weapon. It was extra food from the reception.
Paul Gladstone was an aide worker. He visited devastated countries delivering food and supplies. He came back because his dad asked him to be there at the wedding. He didn’t care about losing the money.
Its not like he was using his trust fund. His sister Amanda was different. She demanded that their father be tested for dementia. She accused Chloe the fiancé of being a gold-digger. Amanda’s husband works at Gladstone Toys as an executive. They do all the high society events in New York. They refused to believe that Bob could marry someone like Chloe.
Amanda’s husband Derek Nestor took things a step further than mere complaints. He called a private investigator. The PI found Chloe on two sugar babies websites. She has a history of OnlyFans. She once filed for bankruptcy. Derek wanted to paint her as unfit and he said he was able to convince Bob to end things with Chloe.
Chloe and Bob had apparently gotten married in Las Vegas six months ago. This big wedding was just for the family. They didn’t know that the will gave Chloe everything until Amanda called the next day of the murder asking if she was still written in it.
Still, Chloe could lose everything in a divorce. The police were able to get a warrant for Chloe’s hotel room. They found the supposed murder weapon. Chloe even said out loud “what did I do”.
Chloe was arrested and the whole city turned against her. They were big fans of Gladstone Toys. They also didn’t believe that a twenty-two year old was really in love with a seventy-four year old. Not even when Bob’s own therapist claimed they were happy. Bob saw a therapist about keeping up with his new young bride in a certain department.
It was the therapist that said Derek was more of an issue than Chloe was. Something that Chloe’s own lawyer ran with. Chloe was brought in on board meetings. She was asked for her input and it was usually always about things that should have been under Derek’s purview. They painted him as a money-hungry liar with a vendetta.
Chloe’s trial also indicated that she had already told Bob about her past. She told him upfront that she used to be an escort. Its how she made a living and took her mother on the first vacation she’s ever been on.
Chloe was very persuasive on the stand. She earned supporters with her testimony. After she testified that she really did love Bob, Bob’s daughter Amanda claimed she lied on the stand. Amanda said she saw Chloe out of her room after nine that night. She even said she was on the phone with her daughter’s pediatrician when it happened.
ADAs Price and Maroun thought it was suspicious. Amanda has made no secret that she hated Chloe. Why didn’t she come forward with this information earlier? Why did she wait until Chloe started to sway people to say something?
The ADAs passed on the information to the cops. They checked out the pediatrician phone call. Amanda hadn’t known that those calls are recorded because if she did – she never would have said something.
The phone call showed that Derek interrupted her phone call covered in blood. His original statement was that he was in the room with his family. It was his alibi and he lied about it. Amanda also lied to protect him. Price and Maroun considered maybe Amanda intentionally blew up her husband’s alibi.
Derek didn’t reveal he was in serious debt. He was counting on that inheritance. He was the real parasite. Not Chloe. Derek was also a great alternative suspect and so they had to drop the charges against Chloe. They couldn’t send an innocent woman to prison for life. She meanwhile was livid. They thought she was a bad person for being in an unlikely relationship, but now the cops have to start all over in finding Bob’s real killer.
