In tonight’s Law & Order: SVU episode, SVU Detectives were onsite when someone bombed the Roosevelt Women’s Clinic. It was a fertility clinic. It helps women get pregnant.
The detectives were there to collect a rape suspect’s DNA. Only they never got the chance because the bomb went off. There were some theories about who could be behind it. It couldn’t be anti-abortionists who confused the lab with something else. It could even be the rape suspect named Ted Simons. He might have heard they were getting his DNA and chose to bomb the place rather than be connected to rape.
Again, lots of theories. Ted was never a bomber. He did on the other hand bleach his garbage so that the cops could never get his DNA. They’ve been trying for months. He was clearly desperate to hide it.
The cops brought in Simons. They questioned him about the bombing. He later denied knowing anything about it. He didn’t even know that they got a subpoena for his DNA. Simons would rather talk himself into the rape charge than admit he bombed anything. He didn’t want to serve a life sentence.
The cops got his DNA. They were going to set him down for rape. He just wasn’t their arsonist. He didn’t bomb that clinic or destroy over ten thousand embryos to make a point.
He was also still detained when someone later murdered the woman that ran that clinic. Her name was Dr. Ila Mukherjee. She survived the bombing and was later found in a building with the words “slut” written on her stomach. She appeared to have died of asphyxiation. The bombing wasn’t about the clinic at all. It was always about the fertility doctor.
Ila was going through a divorce. It was a very bitter divorce. She wanted to settle, her lawyer, and his lawyer all wanted to settle. It was just him that wanted a lion’s share of her practice.
He was a master plumber. He got in trouble with the law after getting drunk and choking out someone at a bar. He struggles with substance abuse. He also suspected his wife was cheating on him. The cops spoke to Chris Clemente. He said that he loved his wife. He was fine if she wanted to end it but felt he deserved a share of the clinic after he used all his savings to help her open it in the first place.
The new detectives was coming down hard on Clemente. Griff was hounding him and it was Bruno that smooth the way. Plus, there were other suspects. The doctor has been getting death threats for months. It started at her clinic. She then started to get them at home. The fliers were from an antinatalism movement. They believed all procreation is wrong. They didn’t think people should bring children into the world when all they were going to do was suffer. It was a death cult full of young adults. And one creepy old man.
The creepy old man was Kurt Young. He joined the movement after speaking to someone on Reddit. He joined it like joined every other movement. He wasn’t interested in the cause.
He was only after the young attractive women interested in them. He was sleeping with someone from the antinatalism movement. Kurt was innocent of the doctor’s murder as well as the bombing. He was with his new girlfriend. Her name is Lauden. The cops showed her that Kurt was full of it. Which helped because she knew that he killed her TA Autumn Diaz.
Autumn was in the antinatalism movement too. She dealt with anxiety and depression. Kurt told Lauden that he killed her because she asked him to. He left out that Autumn was pregnant and that was his.
He didn’t kill her to help her. He did it because he wanted to get rid of a pregnant girlfriend before he moved onto a younger girlfriend. Both of whom were involved in the antinatalism death cult. Lauden told the cops where to find Kurt’s Winnebago. They found the murder weapon. They connected it to a cold case of a woman matching Autumn’s description.
Kurt was arrested for murder. It just wasn’t the murder they were initially looking at. It seems Ila wasn’t killed by the movement. She was actually killed by her lawyer.
Mark Olson was the one dragging out the divorce. He lied to the cops earlier when he said it was Clemens. Clemens had an alibi that held up. Olson however was losing money fast. He was borrowing friends’ offices to appear legitimate even as he screws over his clients. He kept the divorce dangling along to bill as many hours as he could. And the money runs out fast with him.
Drugs! Divorce! Bankruptcy!
Olson’s real office was a block away from where the doctor’s body was found. The murder weapon was found at his office. He cleaned it with bleach and so there was no DNA
. It merely matched the marks left on the victim’s throat. The guy was a lawyer. He was once a good lawyer. ADA Carisi came out as if the interrogation was a trial. He put Olson on the backfoot. He showed him the evidence to force him to cut a deal. And Detective Velasco was taking a permanent assignment with the DEA in San Diego.
Captain Benson helped him in deciding to take the job and so he said goodbye to Finn before he left.
