On tonight’s NCIS:ORIGINS episode, Cliff Wheeler was the kind of guy that spent a lot of time alone. He did so at work. He even did so at home. His wife didn’t believe in divorce and so she made him staying as horrible as possible. He hated going home. His teenage son doesn’t talk to him.

He doesn’t have the chance to talk to anyone because Shelly refuses to engage unless she’s reprimanding him. The one place that Wheeler can go to for comfort was to his secret boyfriend’s place. FBI Detective Noah Oakley understood him. He loved him. He asked him how his day was. He was Wheeler’s comfort.

Naturally, Shelly had to ruin. She wanted to get out while the getting was good. It would be before Wheeler got fired for being gay. It was the 90s during the age of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Shelly didn’t want a divorce before because she wanted them to be a little richer so that she could take half. She’s since changed her mind about that because she wants out while Wheeler still has a job. She agreed to a divorce. She was taking the kids. She was taking the house. Wheeler had become another statistic. He needed a moment to himself.

Wheeler couldn’t get it because he had to go to work. NIS was always busy. Everyone was always coming to him to fix their problems. He never got the minute alone with his scotch and so he snapped.

He yelled out that he needed a moment now that he was getting a divorce. He basically yelled it for the whole station to hear. He needed an escape and so Mary Jo made sure he got it. She left Franks to deal with their latest case by himself. They were investigating the murder of Lance Corporal Natasha Horvet.

Nastasha had just been tapped for signal intelligence. She was going to be working a top secret mission deciphering code from the break up of Yugoslavia. She worked one day and then she was murdered.

She was stabbed. Her body was left out for Mary Poppins to find. Mary Poppins was a cougar. She was nicknamed that because she found a lost child and watched over him until he was rescued. It was believed at first that Mary Poppins killed Nastasha until they found the remains of a knife still in her. She was killed by a human and her remains were left out for Mary Poppins to destroy.

They still needed the cougar because she might have evidence. Only they were Cougar crazies. They’d get high and worship Mary Poppins. They also pushed their way onto base because they didn’t want Mary Poppins to be put down.

They were really strong believers in animal protection. Lala had to arrest one of them. She then had to arrest a second later on when they came to the station at night with a weapon. It was the worst possible time to be dealing with rolling blackouts. Lala was thankfully able to handle the last situation by herself.

The crazy cougar guy brought the handle that pairs with the murder weapon. He found out in his bid to protect the cougar. Only NIS now wanted to find the cougar’s excrement to find any pieces of Nastasha. Carl went out on a joint task force and they found it. They brought it back to the tech team.

They found a medal that had been given to Natasha’s superior, Lt. Colonel Casey Montgomery. Montgomery was the last place on record to have seen Natasha. He picked her up for the secret mission and he dropped her off.

Montgomery picked Nastasha personally for the job. He even gave her his medal to encourage her. Franks thought he had inappropriate feelings for her and that was far from the case.

Montgomery didn’t kill her because he brought her back to base. He then went a motel miles away to be with his male lover. He revealed all of that during questioning. He also said that he saw Nastasha speaking to a man in civilian clothes before he left base that evening. It put Wheeler in an awkward position. He technically has to report Montgomery for being gay.

Back then, they thought being gay in the military made people open to blackmail. Montgomery would be relieved of his duties. He might possibly lose his pension as well. Mary Jo couldn’t let that happen.

Mary Jo told Wheeler that she knew his secret. She knew he was just as worried about being find out, but he doesn’t get to bury Montgomery’s career because it would destroy him in the long run. Wheeler yelled at Mary Jo for being impertinent. And then he never reported it because she had been right.

It turns out Montgomery’s lead was the technician. The guy went to the bar with Nastasha. It was supposed to be a fun outing and he didn’t like that he didn’t get more than a kiss goodnight.

He killed her for not getting more. They found out it was him thanks to his pen. He has a Whatever Weather Pen. Randy admired it when they first saw him at the base. Those pens were expensive and the guy got a bunch of them free from work. He even gave one to Randy. And that’s how they knew he was guilty.

That and he ran when they went to go arrest him.

Wheeler eventually apologized to Mary Jo. She was his truest friend and he saw that for himself. He also recommended Noah for the job that Vera wanted to try out for. It was in DC.

It led to Vera and Lala getting into an argument that lasted for days before they finally forgave each other. And so Wheeler was still denying himself the simple pleasure of being happy with someone.

And Gibbs didn’t want that for himself. He showed Diane the boat shed and that was a huge commitment on his part. It also helps that his friends really like her. She was beautiful and considerate. They did a double date night with Randy and his wife and everyone enjoyed it.

THE END!
