In tonight’s Sheriff Country episode, Mickey was tough. She’s handled a lot. She was even a sheriff. She just couldn’t handle a squirrel. There were like rats with furrier tails and they freaked her out. She ended up calling Travis for help. He got rid of the squirrel. The two of them hugged to celebrate when things took a turn.

The hug became something more. They slept together. Skye was on a camping trip so there was no chance of confusing each other. All they did was confuse each other. Travis thought them sleeping together was more than it was and Mickey had to inform him otherwise.

They were divorced. They were staying divorced. Tonight was an one off. Mickey also had to go into work and she was playing hooky just to play house with her ex-husband.

She kicked him out. She tried to do it nicely. He didn’t get the hint. She was then forced to be blunt. She told him what happened didn’t change things and she soon went to work like nothing really did happen. Her deputies caught a kid who streamed his car chase that ultimately turned into a car crash. The guy ran off. He tried to hide in a princess castle playhouse. And Hank tore the thing up to drag him out.

Luckily, Cass was there. Cass promised to rebuild the playhouse. She and Hank were marching their suspect back to the car when Mickey showed up with Boone. They were closing down the road. They were maintaining the scene and two people snuck into the back of their car. Their names was Peters Sanders and his son, David.

They were running from the Barlows. The Barlows were some of the oldest families that came together to start a commune you could say in Edgewater. It was currently run by the patriarch Enoch Barlow.

Enoch wasn’t a problem at first. Peter claimed he gave him purpose. He had nowhere to go and no money. Enoch giving him the job on the ranch changed his life. Peter stayed there. He married Enoch’s daughter, Ruth.

They had David. Things were going well for a long time. They didn’t change until Enoch’s wife died and suddenly the patriarch became paranoid. He began to believe they were going to be targeted. He went from prepper to a doomsday cult pretty fast after his wife died. He now wakes up David at all hours of the time to train with a gun.

David is seven. He was a kid. He deserved a childhood. He shouldn’t have to believe he has to be prepared to kill people for trespassing on their land. The men and boys were all armed.

Their property was lined by an electrified fence. There was no escaping the place for people who wanted to leave. They were free to sell their food at the food market every month. It was the only time they were allowed to leave the compound. They didn’t even get to hold onto the money they made because Enoch controls it.

Peter was worried about his son. He knew growing up in that environment was toxic. He was worried that David would be indoctrinated like the other kids and so he ran to the police for help. It was a first for Mickey. Mickey had been warned about the Barlows by the previous sheriff. He advised to stay clear of them.

Now, she was getting involved. Ruth came to the station looking for her husband and son. She was concerned at first. She soon got angry once she realized that Peter ran away to safety with their son.

Ruth demanded the return of her son. She said Peter kidnapped him. So, Mickey was honest with her. She said that there was to be investigation of the conditions on the ranch and that she would make an initial assessment on whether or not David returned there.

She wasn’t lying. She literally went to the ranch with Boone where she found some concerning things. There were teenagers with guns everywhere. The fence kept people in just as much kept people out. They had enough fertilizer to make a bomb to level the whole town.

The kids weren’t being given an education. They were instead forced to listen to Enoch’s tapes about people in uniforms couldn’t be trusted. The government was out to get them and needed to be overthrown. It was asking for death because there wasn’t enough of them to actually take on the government. They were full sovereign citizens.

Mickey ruled that David shouldn’t be returned right away. It was going to go before a judge later on and the judge will rule who should get custody of David.

In the meantime, David was going to stay at a safehouse with his dad. Neither his mom nor his grandfather were going to be given his location because they have a temporary protective order. Mickey faced Enoch Barlow. He helped her once.

She went tubing on the river nearby. She had landed on his property with a twisted ankle and he helped her because he used to be a combat medic in the first Gulf War. It was because it was her now all grown up that Enoch said he would follow the process.

Enoch was a man of his word. He was all about following the rules until the IRS showed up. They arrested him with the help of the FBI and it was all a confirmation of Enoch’s worst fears.

He essentially told Mickey that she reaps what she sowed as he was being arrested. The feds have been watching him for months. They were building a weapons case. They merely used the IRS for tax evasion because Enoch leaving the compound was the perfect opportunity for them. The agents didn’t care about the blowback on Edgewater or Mickey’s office.

Enoch’s people eventually came for him and they shot him the whole building.

They even shot Travis who returned to the station to finally fight for his relationship with Mickey.

THE END!
