In tonight’s Sheriff Country episode, Mickey Fox was running for Sheriff of Edgewater. Mickey Fox was a deputy that stepped up to the role after her boss was murdered. He had been murdered by a fellow cop and it was Mickey that got justice for him. However, she never sought out the sheriff role before.
She was fine with just being a deputy. Her being interim Sheriff now was a stopgap until someone serious was voted in. Mickey decided to run for Sheriff because she does love this town and right now she needed help with funding.
There was the rotary club that helped finance the previous sheriff’s campaign. Only they weren’t happy with Mickey. There’s been three burglaries in their neighborhood and no answers.
It got people wondering if Mickey really was ready for the job. She was! She just didn’t know about the burglaries because her chief deputy didn’t tell her. He didn’t think it was important enough. The burglaries weren’t actually that big of a deal. There was someone breaking in to steal food from the pantries.
All they were taking was food. Boone didn’t think it warranted attention directly from a Sheriff. It turns out it did when it got her biggest donors upset with her. The Sheriff had someone keep an eye on the neighborhood. She then sought out her daughter in the meantime. Her daughter just got out of rehab. Again.
Skye has relapsed several times and now she was dating Brandon. Brandon who her mom arrested recently for selling narcotics. Mickey didn’t like him around her daughter. She arrested him. Again for having narcotics.
Brandon claimed that her ex-husband was her lawyer. Skye’s dad was Travis Fraley. Skye’s questionable behavior should be better monitored and so Mickey blamed Travis. She thought if he wasn’t so busy dating one of her deputies that maybe he’d stay on top of things.
Travis got Brandon out of the new charges that Mickey wanted to bring against him. She apparently didn’t have probable cause to search him nor did she see him selling the drugs. The fact she found drugs didn’t matter.
Brandon was let go. Mickey was upset that Travis was hiding the fact he was dating Cassidy. Cassidy was someone that Mickey once saved and now Cassidy was a deputy because of her. This felt like a betrayal. It just wasn’t the only one. They later found out who was stealing food. It was a kid named Simon. Simon was stealing for his sister. They wouldn’t let his sister eat. He attacked Boone and Mickey got him. Simon was taken by CPS. He wouldn’t answer anymore questions. Mickey looked into his home life.
Simon’s sister was his stepsister, Maddie. Maddie’s mom died. Her dad remarried Simon’s mom. Simon’s mom hates Maddie. Maddie even mentioned something to a teacher and, before you know it, both kids were taken out of school to be homeschooled. The family welcomed another daughter as well. This stepmom from hell has been torturing Maddie ever since. Her dad just lets it happen because he was afraid of being alone. He turned a blind eye to this woman starving his child to the point her own son was stealing food just to make sure that Maddie ate something.
Mickey didn’t have proof without Simon talking. She visited the house. She tried to see Maddie and the parents kicked her out. They said she wasn’t free to search their home without a warrant. She eventually got that warrant when they faked paperwork from a judge to kidnap Simon back. The Sheriff’s office searched the home after that. They didn’t find the family. They did find Maddie. Maddie was locked up in her room in a small hiding space where her stepmom routinely put her. Maddie was being moved when she pushed her stepmom to escape.
Then Maddie became worried that her stepmom would be angry with her. She went back to the house. She hid in that hidden room hoping her stepmom would forgive her if she punished herself. Cassidy stayed behind until Maddie was ready to leave the room. Mickey went after the parents. They still had two smalls kids with them. They found them using John’s hearing aides. They found them and got shot at. The couple then took off in their car with the kids. Mickey was talking to John. She offered to let him get the kids home before he and Carol were arrested.
Only Boone didn’t follow her orders. He was running for Sheriff. He was the rotary club nominee. It’s the real reason he didn’t tell her about the burglaries. It’s the reason he ordered a roadblock behind Mickey’s back. John saw that and he thought Mickey lied to him. He then did something dangerous. He tried to drive his family off the cliff. The rocks stopped him. They were veering near the edge so Mickey acted fast. She got everyone out in time. This included John and Carol who were both arrested for attempted murder.
Mickey got the community to pitch in to help out with the kids now that their aunt was taking them in.
Mickey also let her dad move in with her. He was going legit. He was getting a license for selling pot. Mickey was hoping he would be a good influence on Skye. He ended up telling Skye where he hid some money in his beehives. She told her boyfriend. Her boyfriend stole six hundred bucks before running off after her grandpa fired warning shots. Skye confronted her boyfriend. She tried to get the money back and he already used it to buy drugs. Skye took it off him. She then handed it to her cousin Bode because she needed a sober companion. And unfortunately giving them to Bode which might have awaken his own struggles.
Skye’s boyfriend later called her. He told her he was going to rehab. Skye visited his place to supposedly be happy for him and she found him stabbed to death. Now she claims she tried to save him. She claims she touched the knife trying to save him. It didn’t look good for her because her DNA was all over the place. Mickey brought her daughter to the Sheriff’s office to get her help. Boone was going to resign from her office now that she was a shoe-in for the job. Yet, Skye possibly killing someone might have killed Mickey’s career.
