In tonight’s Sheriff Country, a protected witness was in danger. The US Marshalls were moving a protected witness out of Edgewater when their car blew up. Both Marshalls were nearly killed. Valerie Fulton was fine. She wasn’t too near the blast and she still needed to make it to San Francisco to testify against Demir Boz.
Normally, they would just send out more Marshalls to escort Val only the closest office was miles away. She needed protection from Edgewater to there and so Mickey stepped up. She got Val’s file. She learned that Demir had killed Val’s boyfriend right in front of her. It was miracle she was able to get away when she did.
It was believed that Demir had hired a hitman from the East Coast to take her out. It was going to be a long drive to the WitSec office. One has to forgive Val because she didn’t think a sheriff and a deputy were enough to protect her or her baby. Val was pregnant.
Her family doesn’t even know about the pregnancy. Val was cooped up and bored. She noticed the tension between Mickey and Boone. She wanted the tea. She was getting it during the drive when they noticed a car was following them.
Mickey managed to lose the car. Only it showed the hitman was smart. He knew his car would get stuck by trying to imitate Mickey on the back roads. He still managed to catch up to them later on. Val had needed a bathroom break. She was heavily pregnant. It happens and she couldn’t exactly hold it in.
They made a pit stop. Val got to use the bathroom. They were coming out when Mickey saw things were off. She saw the cigarettes. The same cigarettes from the watch point at the safe house.
She got Val down before shots started to ring out. Their hitman tried to get her via a drive by shooting. He injure Val nor did he hurt anyone else. Val would’ve preferred it if they called backup.
Mickey and Boone told her there wouldn’t be a point to it. Backup would take thirty minutes to reach them. They couldn’t afford to sit that long with hitman breathing down their necks. Back at the Sheriff’s office, things were unraveling. Mickey had left Cass in charge and Cass had promised to make it seem like Mickey never left. And then day turned out to be one from hell.
Someone set a fire in the women’s bathroom at the station. Cass was running around putting out all sorts of fires before she had to call CalFire to deal with the actual one. There was one guy who claims he never got an incident report even though their files said they sent one to him two weeks ago.
His wife was the best suspect for starting that fire. She was very cagey. She also tried to sneak into their office. Cass was handling everything by herself. She didn’t suspect this woman right away. Not when she had a Gen-z pot grower upset her laptop was being held at evidence.
Cass was dealing with someone recording her on their cell phones claiming police brutality. It made her miss the obvious things. Like that woman who didn’t want her husband to get the incident report.
To the point she tried to break in and then start a fire when that didn’t work. Cass only noticed this woman when she locked down the station. She tried to find the arsonist that way. The heat was off and everyone was taking off layers to deal with it. All except for Jenna. She wore a heavy hoodie that she refused to take off. Cass realized instantly her situation.
She arrested her right away. She did that as a means of getting her away from her husband. Jenna was experiencing domestic violence. She hid the incident report hoping she’d be allowed to go out and get it herself.
Her husband just hadn’t trusted her. He went with her to the police station. He kept finding a ways to stop her from talking to the cops and she finally set that fire hoping to get arrested long enough to get away from her husband to ask for help. Cass should’ve noticed the signs right away.
Cass was once Jenna. She was so busy trying to be Mickey that she forgot what she brought to the job. Gina later told her that Mickey was the same way.
She was so busy trying to be Fred that she was a mess. It wasn’t until she started being Mickey that she became a great cop. Mickey also realized how the hitman kept following them. Val had an illegal burner phone. She thought she was messaging her mother when she was messaging the hitman. Mickey and Boone lured the hitman to a motel via that phone. They captured him alive. And that’s one more charge against Demir.
Boone also finally apologized for what he did. It took Val’s nosey self for him to realize that maybe he should have apologized rather than hand in his resignation. They were able to hand Val over to the Marshalls.
She’ll be safe now. Mickey also returned home to approve of Cass’s good day of work. She stopped a serial abuser. Now, Mickey didn’t know her father had a heart event that he fixed with a cold shower because he doesn’t have medical shower. She also didn’t know that Skye held off on going back to college.
Mickey just asked her dad to stay on and Skye not to be in such a hurry to leave. They let her think that them staying was her idea. They then kept the rest a secret.
And Mickey tried to hire back Boone, but he set things in motion in Oakland and he was still keeping secrets because Mickey never knew that he was married.
THE END!
