On tonight’s The Voice episode, Reba had the most spots open going into tonight’s episode. She had four, Niall and Snoop had three, and Michael had two. Reba has been a bit busy.
She was starring in her own show. It was on NBC. It’s called “Happy’s Place”. It was filmed nearby to the studio for “The Voice”. Reba was able to run back and forth between them during working hours. Well, she was able to fully focus on this show tonight. She was the first to turn for Dustin Dale Gaspard. He created his own genre of Swamp Pop. It was bluesy pop with a throw of Rock in.
Dustin opened tonight with “Bring It Home To Me”. He included a harmonica as well as some French to honor his Louisianan roots. This was a guy that loved alligators and played with them.
He wasn’t afraid to take risks, but the risks worked in his favor because he delivered a memorable performance. He was also the first four chair turn of the night. His song choice really clinched things because he had everyone singing along with him for that one. Dustin had his choice of coaches He could have chosen anyone. Reba hoped it would be her and she lost out when he went with Niall.
Niall won him over with his comments. Only Niall’s charm can’t win him everyone. Next up was Kannard Thomas. He was known as the Comeback King because he’s come back quite a few times.
He first tried out for season sixteen. He didn’t get any chair turns. Then he got called back in for a special segment where they got to compete to join the rest of the show. His coach at the time was Bebe Rexha. He loved working with her and he was ready for another comeback. He sings on cruise ships. He was ready to sing on “The Voice”.
Kannard chose “Whip Appeal” for his appearance. He had Snoop singing along. It takes a lot to impress Snoop. He was building his team slowly with the people he loves and so he turned first for Kannard.
He was quickly followed by Niall. Niall knew he didn’t have a shot. He still gave it a try and he still lost out to Snoop Dog. Next up was Shan Scott. She opened her performance with “Wish I Knew You”. Here was a young woman who moved to Nashville by herself to pursue music. She knew only one person there and ended up living on their coach for a time.
Shan has a raspy voice. It sounded great even when she was just talking. Reba made sure to sneakily wait until almost the last minute to turn just so she wouldn’t get any competition. It worked too. She was the sole turner. She automatically got Shan on her team and Niall waited too long to take advantage. He loved Shan’s voice. He would’ve chosen her if he could. Next up was Carly Harvey. She was another full-time musician. She was also a music teacher. She knew she was older in the game and as many before her have shown – age is just a number. It has no bearing on talent.
Carly’s whole vibe was amazing with her signature hat. She performed “It Hurt So Bad” and it was great. The coaches were vibing to the song. It’s odd that it took them so long to turn. They needed to stop playing chicken with each other. Something they seem to constantly do and just focus on the great voices. Carly’s high note was unbeatable tonight. Both Michael and Reba turned for her when really she should have been a four chair turn. She even brought something spiritual to help her with her performance. It helped her join Team Michael.
Next up was Colin Bracewell. He started music when he was four. He even went to university for Opera. He’s now crossed over to a different genres and performed “More Than A Woman” for a very happy audience. He also brought along a guitar to accompany. It just wasn’t enough to impress the judges. They sadly did not turn for him. Maybe it was the song choice. It simply did not gel the way the judges were hoping. They were still sad they missed out on a versatile artist though and he can always come back.
Vinya Chhabra was the youngest of the night at fourteen. She was also the first true Rocker. She started out with drums. She then moved onto guitar. She also does some classical music on top of all that. She now was a frontwoman to a kids’ rock band. Vinya chose the song “Ironic”. It was a classic. This young powerhouse was going places. Michael, Reba, and Snoop all turned for her. Niall was the only one missing out. Vinya then shocked everyone when she chose to join Reba’s team. Reba got herself a rocker.
There was a speed through of other vocalists. Conrad Khalil joined Team Reba. She was once again a sole turn for an artist and she’s been in the business to spot talent where others missed out. They should have followed her lead with this one. Conrad was followed by another artist that sadly did not find a home tonight. Again, those that didn’t make it this season can always come back next season. They were always welcome. Kanard did it more than once and he was now a part of the show.
The focus returned to the stage just in time for Liam Von Elbe. He performed “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room”. His voice called out to Niall and Snoop. He was a touring audio engineer. He works monitors so he wasn’t seen or heard by the audience. Niall even joked whoever he worked for probably wasn’t as good as him. It was Niall’s charm again that won him a great artist. Reba would have turned to if she didn’t have only one spot left. The same for Michael. They were holding out for someone that will knock their socks off.
Lauren Anderson was up. She was another older artist. She struggled with feeling like she fell behind. She doesn’t have a partner or kids or the career she desired. She was touring the country in a twelve passenger van that she did not convert. Lauren was ready to be seen. She was tonight. She performed “Midnight Train To Memphis”. She was another rocker. Her high note impressed yet once again she was another one chair turn. Snoop not only recognized the song, but he wanted her on his team and got her thanks to the short-sightedness of the others.
Next up was Ava Nat. She was the youngest of three. She grew up singing and dancing with her sisters. Her eldest sister passed away from a car accident when she was eleven. Only Ava kept going with music to honor her sister. She started out in musical theater and decided she preferred singer/songwriter aspect. She also throws in Jazz occasional. Michael wished she had performed a jazz song because he definteily would have turned if she had. She has a great voice. She chose the song “I Love You, I’m Sorry”. It won over three of the judges. Michael was alone in not turning.
Ava soon joined Niall’s team because he was Niall from One Direction. Of course, she went with him. Next up was Trevor Hewett. He runs a pest control business with his dad. Their slogan is Hewett Can Do It. His business allowed him to stay home with his family. He initially wanted to pursue music. He was a big guy and everyone wanted him to stick to football when really he wanted to stay true to choir. Which he did. Trevor performed “I Was Wrong”. It was sadly the wrong choice for him. His raspy voice didn’t get to shine and the judges hadn’t turned for him.
Trevor was followed by Teo Ramdel. He was from Tijuana, Mexico. He grew up during a dangerous time in his city. His sole parent was a single mother raising four kids and so things were tough at home. Teo found that music was a great outlet. He performed “Historia De Un Mer”. He did so in the original Spanish and was a great hit with the judges. He was a four chair turn and they all wanted him, but Michael won him over thanks to his wife. His wife is Spanish and he knows all of Juan Miguel. And that was enough for Teo.
THE END!
