The Young and the Restless’ Billy Flynn Talks Rebranding Cane, Ditched Accent & Closer Lily Age Range

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that fans are still talking about the debut of Aristotle Dumas, who turned out to be Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) with a whole new look. As CDL predicted, Billy Flynn took over the role of Cane and made a soapy splash.

Of course, many viewers still remember Daniel Goddard’s (now playing Professor Henry “Hank” Dalton on General Hospital) version of Cane since he played the part from 2007 until his exit in 2019.

It’s been an adjustment watching the new Cane since he has such a different vibe, but Billy Flynn brings tons of talent and ambition to the table.

Flynn deserves a chance to make the role his own – and that’s exactly what he hopes to do!

In an interview with TV Insider, Flynn opened up about the challenge of stepping into Cane’s shoes.

It turns out that Flynn initially didn’t realize he’d be a Cane recast; that was a revelation that came later in the casting process.

Once it became clear to Flynn that he was playing someone with plenty of history on the show – particularly with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) – he dove in and really did his research.

Flynn acknowledged that he’s not Australian and that he’s a little younger than his previous portrayer, but he’s still hoping fans will get on board with his spin on Cane.

“Essentially, we’re going to rebrand it a bit, so they have a closer age range, and I don’t have a sexy accent.

I can’t replicate it, so I’m going to do my thing,” Flynn said.

As for Daniel Goddard’s performance, Flynn had nothing but good things to say about his time in the part.

Goddard built the foundation of the character, so Flynn definitely respects that.

“What Daniel did was amazing — he was great as Cane — and obviously, the relationship that Cane and Lily had is a testament to their work,” Flynn insisted.

Based on Flynn’s hints, it’s clear that Y&R’s hoping to continue Lily and Cane’s romantic story.

Flynn talked about Lily being Cane’s “one true love” and suggested this whole Gatsby-inspired Dumas thing was a way to prove himself worthy of her.

Can Cane successfully win Lily back as this storyline moves along?

It certainly looks like the show’s heading in that direction, so we’ll bring you updates on how Cane might pull it off.

The Young and the Restless spoilers say Lily and Cane will have a long journey ahead of them, so stay tuned for more news on their future.
