In tonight’s Tracker episode, Colter learned a shocking family secret. It really wasn’t his brother that killed their father that night. There was someone else in the woods with them and that someone just confessed to the murder. He apparently did it because Colter’s mother asked for help.
Ashton Shaw was becoming erratic. He was yelling at their kids. He took the whole family off grid. He was devolving from the once brilliant man she married. It makes perfect sense that she would want to leave him. Mary Dove Shaw was leaving Ashton. She wanted to take the kids with her. And Ashton was doing his best to stop her from leaving with the kids.
Colter found out about this from Otto. He didn’t get the information from his mother. His mother has been lying to him for years. She convinced him that it was Russell who killed their dad. She knew that her eldest son was innocent yet she still painted him as a villain to the younger kids.
She left out the part where she told Russell to leave. It made seem like he was abandoning his family on top of murdering their dad. Colter bought the story. He was close to his mom. Her daughter got out of there as quickly as possible. She grew up. She got in touch with Russell and she helped him reconnect with Colter.
Having Russell back in his life had come handy. Russell has saved him from dangerous situations. He also tracked him down after he disappeared for three weeks following Otto’s revelations.
He then had to help him with a bar fight before they got to heart of why Colter disappeared on everyone. Colter told his brother everything. He mentioned Otto. He mentioned their mom. He even told him about the plan and how it went sideways when Otto pushed Ashton off the cliff. The news was heavy that night.
Only Russell chose not to care. He said it all happened years ago. He didn’t think it had any baring on what happens next. Russell didn’t just track down Colter for peace of mind. He did it because Reenie has been blowing up his phone and she enlisted Russell into ensuring that Colter starts taking calls again.
Reenie’s client needed help. His ex-wife and daughter have disappeared. He showed up at the handoff. They shared custody of their teenage daughter, Hailey. The last handoff didn’t go so well because Cal Rodgers got into a fight with his ex-wife’s new boyfriend. The guy’s name is Kurt Foster.
Clay didn’t like Kurt. Hailey didn’t like Kurt. The only one that does was his girlfriend. Lisa. Not that Kurt let that stop him stealing from her. He was a conman. He was involved in crypto scam. He could have enemies. Russell and Colter stopped by Lisa’s house. They found a way in.
They also found both Lisa and Hailey’s cellphones on the table. Something they wouldn’t leave the house without. They searched the rest of the home. They found Kurt. He was dead and someone had amputated his hand. And that someone was Lisa.
Lisa took her boyfriend’s hand. She was a orthopedic surgeon. She used the hand to open up his safe at his apartment and so the brothers found out about it when they saw security footage outside of Kirk’s home. It shows that it was Lisa that broke in. She stole her boyfriend’s money with the hand that she chopped off.
To get the footage, Russell choked a guy out and so he needed to go underground for a bit. It was up to Colter to find Lisa. He caught up with her eventually. She was on the run with the money and it looked like she was heading somewhere.
Colter told her that Cal hired him to find her and Hailey. He wasn’t a cop. He wasn’t one of “them”. This them kidnapped Hailey to force Lisa’s hand. Lisa does well as a doctor.
She just doesn’t do so well that someone would grab her kid for ransom. The fact that she didn’t include Cal or the cops in this shows she’s hiding something. She might not be as innocent in Kirk’s crimes as they thought. Lisa got a message from her phone. She then tried to run off on her own again and got hit by a car. Colter saw the message she got after she was done. It was instructions on how to get her kid back.
Colter and Russell followed the directions now that Lisa was in the hospital. They ran into Octman. He said they grabbed his sister. They forced him to take Hailey. Octman said that it was about the process with these people and he was worried they were going to kill his sister if he didn’t do exactly as they ordered.
Colter and his brother ruined that process. They got Hailey’s location from Octman. They freed the girl. She was returned to her father. It was Octman that lost out. He received a text from these mysterious people saying that “you failed”. His sister had been killed for his failure.
It was eating at Colter that he never found out who “they” were, but they knew who he was and who his brother was because they got text messages from these people saying there would be consequences for ruining the process.
