In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Sharon Goodwin has been replaced at the hospital by Mallory Sloane. She wasn’t evil. She was merely cost-effective. Which in a hospital was the worst thing you can be.
She issued budget cuts. She cuts shifts, she rearranged the ones she did allow, and the ED was already flooded when they experienced a mass shooting. The shooting happened at a wedding of all places. There was a guy who walked in with a semiautomatic and just opened fire on everyone. There was about a dozen ambulances flooding Gaffney. There weren’t enough doctors on staff to handle everyone.
Dr. Dean Archer had to tap in everyone that was there. This went for Dr. Charles. This went for Dr. Hannah Asher as well. The injured bride was pregnant and she had gotten shot in the uterus.
Asher was needed to perform surgery. The bride eventually came to. She identified the shooter as her ex-boyfriend. His name is Henry Cyrus Murphy. They broke up a long time ago. She moved on. He didn’t. He snapped when he heard that she was marrying someone else and wanted to ruin her day. He might’ve also killed if not abducted her fiancé.
No one could find the groom. His name is Dexter. His mom was suffering from anxiety because she didn’t know where her son was. The best man was freaking out.
Tamar’s second question after asking about her baby was about Dexter. He wasn’t at East Mercy. That’s where some of the victims ended up to not overload Gaffney. Dr. Charles had promised his mother to look for him and the longer he’s gone – the more questions are piling up. Tamar hadn’t even seen him at the wedding. She heard the commotion and ran out straight into the bullets.
One of her flower girls was experiencing temporary blindness. She was shielded by the bullets by her mom. Her mom hid her under a pew.
The mom was missing. The little girl was facing a traumatic response to the encounter and the one person she trusted was Bruno the wedding guitarist. He had found her under the pew. He got her to the hospital. They became trauma friends while the search of her mother continued. The hospital then had to stop searching for the groom because Dexter showed up.
Dexter showed up on his own. He didn’t have a scratch on him. He didn’t have any blood on him. Did this man run once the ex began firing? Did he really leave his family as well as his new bride to face the onslaught by themselves? Archer and Charles had questions and not just about where the groom was. They haven’t heard back on what’s going on with Sharon. Sharon was refusing to share with Charles. She was fighting for her career. Miranda seemed to really be out to get her. She claimed she had evidence that Sharon released Dr. Rabari’s personal medical files.
Miranda hasn’t released this evidence. She was refusing to discuss it and its been months. Sharon finally snapped at her. She asked what she truly did wrong? Was it her age or her race? Her lawyer friend told her to stop talking, but Miranda has been out for her since Sharon didn’t hire her nephew. The nephew didn’t want to be a nurse. He wanted to be an artist. He showed Sharon his artwork and she encouraged to pursue his passions rather than tie himself down to a place where he didn’t want to be.
These things are important in dealing with patient care. Bruno the guitarist was going to wait in the waiting room to hear about Dakota the flower girl when someone drove straight into the building. They killed Bruno instantly. They potentially retraumatized a little girl as well as people who just went through a mass shooting. The one thing they got answers about was Dexter. Dexter had gotten cold feet. He went for a drive. He was intending on missing the wedding because his mom had gotten in his ear.
The mom thought Tamar was a gold-digger. She didn’t come from money. Dexter did. His father created a company that his mother sold for a huge fortune so he’s never gone without. He didn’t doubt Tamar at first. He came to doubt her because his mother never let up. He didn’t realize how much he loved her until he heard about the mass shooting and his mom couldn’t wait to sink her claws into him. She told him about the baby after promising Tamar would break the news. She spoke of gaining custody. And she was doing everything to ruin Dexter’s happiness.
The car that drove into the waiting room was being driven by Henry. He wanted to finish what he started by killing Tamar for daring to leave him. Dexter’s mom was using him as even more proof that Dexter should end things with the woman. Charles couldn’t intervene when he overheard it. He knew Dexter had to make the choice for himself. He just didn’t like what he was seeing from that woman. Dexter later made his choice. He chose Tamar. He asked his mom not to be there and he stayed with his family.
Now, Henry killed Bruno. Ripley helped save Henry’s life because he punctured his lungs in the car accident. The fourth year on the other hand seemed to take pleasure in hurting him. She stuck a tube into his lung without offering pain meds. Ripley called her out on it. They tracked down Dakota’s mom and they were initially told that she died at a different hospital. It was thankfully a mix-up. The mother and daughter were reunited. The mom hadn’t wanted to tell the little girl that Bruno had died. She claimed that he had to go home and that they’d thank him later.
They had a moment of silence for those they lost. It convinced Asher that her maternity leave is over. She’s coming back to work. Ripley meanwhile facetimed his girlfriend who’s in Zurich for a prion trial. She’ll be back in three months.
And it was revealed who leaked Dr. Rabari’s file – it was Doris!
