In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Sharon Goodwin had to step away from her actual job just to kiss the ring. The majority owner of the hospital wasn’t happy with last year’s profits.

He wanted answers to save money and that usually meant cutting costs at the hospital. What Sharon wanted to tell him was that he didn’t need to send a chartered jet to pick them up. He could save money by skipping out on the jet. She didn’t want to lay off more people or possible cut corners at a hospital because he wanted to see them save money. And not himself.

It also didn’t help that Sharon was going to be stuck with an angry Miranda for the full ride. Miranda still hasn’t forgiven Sharon for not hiring her nephew. He had a great resume, but nursing wasn’t his passion.

He wanted to be an artist. He told Sharon that he hasn’t told his family the truth yet and that’s why she covered for him. She let his family believe she didn’t hire him. Not that he turned down the job to pursue his real passion. His family was too pushing nursing at him that they didn’t notice anything else.

Miranda was still testy about everything that went down. She expected her nephew to get the job just because of the connection to her. When nepotism didn’t work, she crossed a line.

She dropped a heavily racist remark that Sharon only went with the other nurse because she black. Miranda now doesn’t want to help Sharon come up with a plan for the board. The cost-cutting measure she wants to suggest was to fire Sharon and Sharon pretty much guessed it after Miranda went on a rant about how she’s tired of being the bad guy compared to Sharon the saint.

Sharon now has to figure out how to work around Miranda while back at the hospital- new student doctors showed up. Dr. Charles was showing them around. He encouraged to ask questions and not everyone appreciated those questions. Dr. Lenox certainly felt annoyed by them. They weren’t that intrusive.

One of the students wanted to know if a kid that got shot made it. He was the same age as her little brother. She saw how distraught his parents had been when they brought him. They were in the car at a stoplight when someone fired at them.

The shooters didn’t say anything. They gave no indication of why they shot at a family. They hadn’t stuck around to see if they were dead so the shooting didn’t make any sense. Billy, the injured child, also might not make it. Lenox reassured the students that if he survives the next few hours that he’ll survive long-term. It wasn’t much.

Only it was very Lenox to think that. Lenox believed in telling it like it is and Dr. Charles soon jumped on board with that idea when he noticed that one of the students wasn’t paying attention.

He spoke to the student alone. The guy said he was all about work/life balance. He wanted to go into private practice and not truly engage. Which was a problem because a doctor always had to be focused on the patient. The young man who believes he can skip that was bound to for failure. Dr. Charles tried to be honest with everybody.

This included those that didn’t think psych was for them. Quentin took his words to heart because he came up with a different idea why one of their patients stabbed his brother.

Enzo stabbed Dante because he has late in life celiac. He was opening a pizza restaurant with his younger brother. Being around so much gluten had brought on a psychosis. Dr. Charles was so proud of Quention for suggesting the test that he didn’t bother to tell him he already had the patient tested for it.

Dr. Charles came up with the same idea as the kid did. He got there faster because he was older. He learned to expect the unexpected. The students were still in their learning phase. They needed to meet more patients. Dr. Frost has a patient who recently moved to Chicago from Hawaii.

It turns out Kiana had a rare autoimmune disease. She was allergic to the treatment to fix it. She would have to go with the secondary treatment and that would require frequent hospital visits every week. Her mother realized that was no kind of life. They moved to Chicago because her mom was marrying a man from there.

They met at a conference. They did long-distance for two years. They were supposed to get married until the mom had to choose between her daughter and her fiancé. She chose her daughter.

It made Frost view his own situation. His parents have been trying to get into contact with him. They torpedo Frost’s credit. They put him into debt. They allowed him to be abused by an older woman on set of a tv show he hated. He only acted so that they could afford their lifestyles. Now, they want back into their lives because his dad is sick. He has MS.

They wanted to be in his life again now that they aren’t doing too well and Frost said “no”. He didn’t want or need them. They had the chance to be parents. They blew it.

Back on the flight, Sharon noticed something was off with Miranda. Miranda had been in a small car accident on the way to the airport. It pushed her back into her seat and she was bleeding into the sac around her heart.

They were stuck in the air so Sharon had to perform a small surgical procedure up there. She saved Miranda’s life. She also earned some street cred with the surgical team back at Gaffney. Dr. Howard gave her an “I Heart Chicago” keychain to celebrate. And so maybe Miranda won’t be suggesting they cut costs by firing Sharon.

THE END!
