General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Chris McKenna has wrapped his run as Jack Brennan now that his body has been confirmed as the one found in the pool.
Brennan is truly dead, so McKenna recently spoke out about the end of his time on GH.
In an exit interview with TV Insider, McKenna acknowledged that he filmed his final episode back in June, so that gave him a bit of an adjustment period before Brennan’s deadly departure aired.
Even so, getting killed off like this stirred up some bittersweet feelings.
Although McKenna was bummed about Brennan’s run being cut short, he also had an attitude of gratitude about his experience.
“I’m really grateful,” McKenna said. “It’s disappointing how it’s ending right now, but this was a gift. Between my son being born and having this place to go to work for the past couple of years, this has been just a fantastic time, and it’s been so much fun.”
Chris McKenna took over the role of Jack Brennan back in February 2025 after Charles Mesure’s sudden departure.
McKenna clearly made the role his own and earned plenty of fans in the process.
However, McKenna acknowledged that some storylines didn’t turn out the way he was hoping while he was portraying Brennan.
Although McKenna was hopeful about playing Jack’s love triangle with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), that didn’t happen.
The show paired Carly up with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) instead, so McKenna suggested “Jack got the short end of the straw there.”
That said, McKenna was proud of the work that story led to once Brennan discovered Carly’s betrayal.
McKenna also pointed out that once John Oliver was given the role of Z and debuted as the leader of the WSB, it cut Brennan out of the climax of the story.
McKenna couldn’t really be upset about that either since he loved having Oliver on set, but he did feel like it was another example of Brennan repeatedly getting sidelined.
The fact that Brennan and Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) romance wasn’t fully explored was also a source of disappointment for McKenna, but he was still grateful for the chance to play such “a cool gray, complex character.”
As for what’s ahead for Chris McKenna, he assured fans that he has more projects in the works and that this won’t be the last we see of him.
