In tonight’s Line Of Fire episode, There was an assassination attempt on the president four years ago. Mike spotted a gun. He warned the president in time. The shooter missed. It was believed to be a man in the crowd who fired the shot. He got taken down by Secret Service and that was it. Or at least it was for everyone besides Mike.

Mike felt something was off about that day. He had been chasing wild theories up to two months ago. He finally dropped it and then Former President Thomas Barnes returned to town. The former president was about to start building his presidential library. He wanted to visit Mike to get him to speak at the event.

Mike couldn’t do it. He couldn’t bring himself to do it because he felt the wrong man died on his watch. He thought the Secret Service killed the wrong person six years ago.

He couldn’t keep living with that on his conscience. Nor did he feel he did right by the president he was serving at the time. Mike told his boys that he was going to the current president. He was going to ask for the case to be officially reopened. He was going to admit his people made a mistake on fall on his sword. He knew he’d be pushed into retirement.

His boys knew it too. Which was why they tried to save his thirty year career. They decided to reinvestigate the shooting from six years ago. They wanted to get evidence to back up their dad.

They even explicitly ignore their dad telling them that they needed to not get involved. Mike was worried they’d be throwing their careers away too. They didn’t think that would mattered after what they initially found. They found out the shooter was diagnosed with recurring gout. His name was Hoyt Sutcliffe. His condition ensured he couldn’t possibly have pulled that trigger.

Except there was a drug panel in his autopsy. He was on drugs to make his symptoms nonexistent. He wouldn’t have felt pain and he could indeed be the shooter.

Mika ran off to tell their dad the good news. He told him that he had been wrong. They got the right guy. Mike believed him. Then he spoke with Barnes about accepting the speaking position. Again, he got the feeling that something was off. Russ also ended up telling his brother that he rushed to tell dad their theory too soon because he also found something that wasn’t adding up.

The panel to pick up the drugs in Hoyt’s system had to be specially ordered. It wouldn’t show in a normal autopsy or a normal drug panel. Someone knew what to look forward when they ordered it. It was a coverup. Their dad was right all along. Russ wanted to verify it so he asked for footage from a NSA friend. His friend had to pretend not to comply because his own agency was listening in. He sent the footage over later. The boys were checking it out as Jane began to assist Wallace. Wallace found the crane left in her apartment.

She normally lives in Seattle. It’s where all her stuff is. She was currently staying in an unlisted apartment that she had no connection to and still a crane was left there.

It was a message. One that neither she nor Jane could decipher. Jane also had a Marshall that needed to be relocated. His cover kept getting blown. It was believed to be he might be revealing himself as a protected witness. They couldn’t keep protecting him if he was going to undo their work. She sent in Clare and another FBI Agent named Raul Amara to get to bottom of what’s wrong.

Those two FBI Agents didn’t like each other. They kept arguing. It was soon revealed that someone was trying to kill the Marshall that was there for William Casale. Claire stopped the assassination attempt. Her mother then swooped in. She found the origami. She realized it was her own agent at risk. She got him back to Wallace. They were questioning him when they made a connection. All the agents murdered had been killed on duty. They were seemingly working a case and so someone was hoping to hide the murders in a line of duty thing. The only way they determined a connection was the cranes. Were they a warning to investigate?

Jane didn’t know. She and Wallace was finally speaking to their guy about his connection to a previous murdered agent when someone killed the guy right in front of them. Jane was so shaken that she returned home. She also didn’t have patience when she spotted Mike there. Mike wanted to tell her about the good news and Jane shut him down. She reminded him that she wasn’t his wife anymore. She’d divorce him if it was up to her. Their sleeping together was something fun, but it was a sign of them getting back together and so maybe he should stop wearing his ring.

Claire and Raul lost Casale before finding him again. He did blow his cover. He had his old rollerblades sent to the new address and so that’s how his old boss found him. The feds stopped the guy from killing Casale. They also became witnesses against him for his attempted murder charge. The case was closed. For them anyways. Mika and Russ found a lot more than they realized. They found the real assassin. They also learned that Mike screen checked the VIP. He allowed the man into the crowd that day. He might still get fired over it if it ever comes to light.

Mika convinced Russ to drop it. They weren’t going to tell their dad what they found. It was better for him to think Mika was right the first time in that they got the right guy. It was much later on at their dad’s speech that they realized the assassin was showing up for the groundbreaking as well. Somehow he was going to take a second shot at President Barnes… or so they believed.

And Jane did show up to support Mike at his speech, but again it doesn’t mean they’re getting back together. They were just being friendly. They still have their children after all and Wallace learned that Jane’s stepson Jack was still alive and in the area.

THE END!
