In tonight’s NCIS:ORIGINS episode, things were different in 1993. For one, Gibbs gave his boat more space. He used to build it in a shed. It was aboveground and so it had been an improvement. It showed he hoped to one day use it. The day he hid his boat away was the day he gave up on ever taking it out.

Gibbs was working on it one day when he spotted a kid had broken in. He arrested him. The kid claimed he was running from someone at first. He backtracked once Gibbs began asking questions. Gibbs took him to his office. He tried to get Franks to sign off on an investigation and Franks shot it down. He made it seem like Gibbs interrupted his date when truth is that it was going nowhere fast.

They had nothing to talk about outside of work. Franks was glad to leave. He still didn’t sign off on an investigation. He said Gibbs had nothing. They had to turn the kid over to the police or let him go. Gibbs chose to let him go because he wanted to see where he went. He went to a rundown apartment.

He was asking for his money from a friend he called. He said he had to get out of town fast. Gibbs then came in. He asked the kid who he was running from. He was denying everything when someone shot up the apartment with them both inside.

The kid initially claimed his name was Kevin Montgomery. His real name was Jake Hale. He was eighteen. He recently graduated from Yorkfield Military Academy. He was the son of the famous General Arthur Hale. Franks demanded he been brought in to be questioned then. It turns out Jack was selling fake IDs.

He was a photo clerk at those one hour photo places. He used the machinery there to make photos. He said one day another fake ID seller approached him. He threatened him to leave the game. Jack called him a “little b*tch” to his face.

The next thing he knew someone was following him. It started at the photo depot and they clearly found out where he lived. Jack had no clue who was trying to kill him. Its not like he got the guy’s name. He nicknamed him “Hasselhoff” because he smelled like sunscreen. He gives everyone nicknames. He called Gibbs “Popeye”.

He called Randy “Gingersnap”. He called Lala “Salma”. He called Franks “Moustache”. Jack was young and dumb until things got serious. He didn’t want his dad knowing he was at their office. He was legally an adult. It was his right.

Franks on respecting his request. It was Wheeler who overruled him. Wheeler said the general had to hear it from them and that goes double when the case turned into something more. They took Jack back to his store to get the security video. They wanted to find out who Hasselhoff really was. They noticed once they got to the store that someone had broken in. They went in with gun drawn. They ran into the FBI laying in wait for Jack. The FBI connected him to a grisly murder. He wasn’t a suspect. He was more like another possible victim.

There had been a woman who came to his shop to print photos. Her name was Tilly Chavez. She called the FBI tipline. She claimed she had evidence of a grisly crime and unfortunately she was killed before she could make the meeting with FBI Special Agent Jo Swanson. Swanson managed to track her down once the date had been cancelled. She found out that Tilly had been murdered. There was also a message on her answering machine from Jack. Jack was telling her that her photos were ready.

The FBI and NCIS agreed to run a joint task force. They questioned Jack about Tilly’s photos. He said the machine was temperamental. Some of the photos came out blank. Lala was able to get the image back using her darkroom. She found out that Tilly took photos of several hands in someone’s refrigerator. The first thought was serial killer. The reality proved worse. The victims were identified as members of the Nine Gates Brotherhood. They were a ruthless gang being run out of a few blocks.

They were known for killing anyone that posed a threat. They believed Jack saw Tilly’s photos so that’s exactly what he became. They thought Jack knew too much and the kid knew nothing.

He never saw the photos that first time. It was only at NCIS that he saw the photos. Lala and Franks wanted to know who had been sent after the kid. They tracked down Flaco. He made some smart remarks but still told them that Chan was the one looking for Jack. They informed Jack’s father. The general was sending a plane to pick up his son and take him to North Carolina.

Jack found out about it. He snuck away. He lured Chan into a trap and he called Gibbs to tell him about it. NCIS later took down Chan thanks to Jack’s help. Jack also gave up his money to Tilly’s family.

He wasn’t such a bad guy after all. He also realized he liked photography. Lala gave him one of her old cameras. He said goodbye to Gibbs by giving him a photo of Gibbs looking lovingly at Lala. She returned the look in the photo.

Gibbs held onto that photo even into present times. He explained to Eleanor Bishop. She agreed to assist him in finding out who tried to kill him. The first step was taking the bullet out and identifying.

She got curious as she was waiting. She saw the photo. She asked about the woman. Gibbs explained it was Lala and that she died a long time ago in a plane crash.

THE END!
