The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that many viewers are looking forward to the head writing transition that’s on the way.
It’ll bring opportunities for fresh storylines and maybe even the return of some fan favorites – like Hunter King as Summer Newman.
King was last seen in the role of Summer back in 2022 before Allison Lanier ultimately took over as a recast. Lanier departed the show in 2025, so Summer’s been off-screen living in Milan since then.
However, Summer gets mentioned pretty often in Genoa City, so plenty of fans are holding out hope for her eventual return.
The question is: Who will be playing Summer if the show moves forward with finally bringing her home?
Although it’s possible we could get a brand-new recast, there’s also a chance Y&R might want to revisit Hunter King’s version of the character.
Could King slide back in the role now that Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor are taking over for Josh Griffith as the show’s co-head writers?
It’s easy to imagine O’Connor and Giddens coming up with some amazing pitch for Summer’s future.
If the show makes King an offer she can’t refuse, then they might be able to convince her to make a Y&R comeback.
There’s already a lot of buzz about the CBS soap’s new chapter now that Giddens and O’Connor have been announced.
The show might as well keep that buzz going by making some announcing some big cast-related news, too.
Hunter King’s return would certainly make some waves in the soap world and get fans talking all over again.
King brought something special to the part, so it’d be great to see her own unique spin on the character once more.
After all, Summer can’t stay mad at Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) forever.
It’s time for Summer to come home and hash things out with her mother – though Phyllis’ romance with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) could create new complications.
Summer also needs to reconnect with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), who’s been dealing with some difficult addiction drama in her absence.
With Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) on the verge of crossing some romantic lines with Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), it’d be fun to see Summer’s reaction to that.
Some fans are still rooting for Summer and Kyle to get back together someday, so maybe King and Mealor’s on-screen chemistry could be revisited.
Regardless, the show needs to see what they can do about convincing King to come back to Y&R and deliver more drama as Summer!
