In tonight’s Tracker episode, Russell has been MIA lately. He disappeared on his younger brother, Colter. Colter was beginning to worry because it’s been so hard to get Russell on the phone much less have a conversation about what really happened on last season’s finale. Yet, this is Russell. He was the expect the unexpected guy.

He did illegal stuff and most of it was for a good reason. Colter had doubted him once. He had been wrong then and he knew better than to risk being wrong again when it comes to Russell. His brother never gave up on him in all those years of estrangement. And so Colter was just happy to see Russell was doing well when they connected over a case.

Russell called his brother about a friend. His friend was Grant Valko. This friend was recently deployed overseas with the military. He returned stateside to find both his wife and daughter missing.

They had been taken. Grant knew that for a fact because he received a ransom demand. He just couldn’t follow through on it. Grant was asked to retract a report he already wrote. He even submitted. There was only one way to unring that bell and he didn’t know for sure if he’d get his family back if he did.

Grant needed help. Russell couldn’t be there himself because he was so far away. He claimed to be surfing. Colter knew better than to believe that one and still he didn’t push his brother over the details.

He instead asked if this was a debt. It wasn’t. It was simply Russell helping out a friend. Grant has forty-eight hours to do what the kidnappers demand or he really will never see his family again. What he couldn’t understand was why. Colter raced to Atlanta. He met with Grant and the first thing he asked about was that report.

What was in it? The report was about a small explosion that makes sense in that part of the world. Grant didn’t go into detail. He merely mentioned that he thought it had been a small IED.

He put it in a report. He was asked to retract by a shady military contractor. He hadn’t done that and it was only once he officially submitted the report that his family were taken. It was clear someone had messed up with the IED. It wasn’t enemy combatants. It had to have been one of their own and Grant didn’t know who could be involved in this.

Grant trusts Russell. If Russells trusts Colter, Grants will trust him too. The one other person who knew about the report for sure was his spotter in the field. Hawthorne wasn’t returning any of Grant’s calls. It was feared something might’ve happened to him. Only Colter put the search for the family over Hawthorne. He tracked down a van that transported them and it actually led right back to Hawthorne’s place. Colter knew about it because he ran into Russell there. Russell just got into town and he knew more about the case than even Grant did.

This case was bigger than a mere report. Grant didn’t know it but he was on recon of a new proprietary weapon. The small explosion occurred because the weapon malfunctioned. Something its makers didn’t want getting out. It would cost them billions a day to delay the weapon while they fixed it. They were a big company that felt they were too big to bite that cost. So, they first tried to bribe Grant. It didn’t work. They them moved on to kidnapping two Americans on American soil. This would’ve gotten swept under the rug even if Grant had reported it to the authorities.

He didn’t because his own assessment as well that of Russell’s convinced him not to. The kidnappers also sent in a guy to clean up afterwards. They always planned on killing him the moment he rescinded the report. Grant took care of the man following him. Russell helped him to hide the body. He arrived in time to stop Grant from taking the report back and it’s a good thing too. Colter found the money man behind the cooperation. They never planned on releasing his family either. They were all awaiting orders the moment Grant ruined his own name/credibility.

Then they could get rid of him with no one asking any hard questions. Colter forced his newly turned hostage to give them evidence on where Shain and Ellie were being held. He then met up with Russell and Grant. They stormed the compound. They later found the kidnapped pair and rescued them by drawing a lot of attention onto them. They had to kill quite a few people. They almost lost Grant. The brothers only managed to save all three by working together. And that was in spite of Colter’s growing frustration with Russell.

He wasn’t the only one frustrated. Reenie was just as upset with Russell. She had so many questions and she tabled them just to ask him if he was alright. Russell said he was good. He probably would’ve said that even if it wasn’t so. One never knows with Russell. It was a little suspicious that he knew the details that had been kept from Grant himself or that Hawthorne was tossed off a roof all because he took the money.

And yet no one asked any hard questions. They called the cops to take care of the kidnappers and the report remained. The company actually lost more money with the coverup than they did with their initial actions.

THE END!
