Has Victoria’s Secret Lost the Plot? Justin Bieber, the Victoria’s Secret sideline lover, “goofs off with the Victoria’s Secret Angels in a new music video set to his single, ‘Beauty & the Beat.’” The video shows Bieber and supermodels Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, and others lip-syncing to the Bieber’s ultra-hit while showing off their assets. Wait, what? Hasn’t the Bieber had enough of Victoria’s Secret? Wasn’t his romantic life almost ruined by Victoria’s Secret? Why would the Bieber relish in his indiscretions?
Well, Bieber made this Cinéma Vérité piece while at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last month – you know, the one where he partied with supermodel Barbara Palvin backstage? The one where he almost single handedly ruined his good boy image and his relationship with Selena Gomez? And before you cry in your wash cloth, the video is, in actual fact, a promotional piece for Tuesday’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on CBS. It follows in the footsteps of the super popular found footage genre – and is edited in such a way to show important back-stage glimpses of the models in their regular environment.
One would assume that female supermodels have enough swag and coolness to pull off such a music video, but they don’t. Instead of being a classy and sexy promo piece, it feels like Barney the purple dinosaur’s spin-off show. Models are also quite adept at portraying characters on screen, but this found footage horror was like visiting a small country in Eastern Europe with a bunch of neurotic Blair Witch Bitches.
In future, Victoria’s Secret should move away from the Justin Bieber phenomenon and instead focus on what makes the annual show famous in the first place – beautiful women wearing super expensive and super sultry lingerie. The multi-million dollar company doesn’t need to piggyback on the fame whoring of Bieber.
Will you be watching the annual event on CBS this Tuesday? Are you looking forward to seeing your favourite supermodel (is there such a thing?) strut the catwalk? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
