Selena Gomez revealed her new celebrity crush at the VMA Awards this weekend, and the answer may surprise some of you. The newly 21-year-old actress/singer previously dated Justin Bieber, and she has admitted her recent celebrity crushes to be Logan Lerman and Jesse McCartney.
However, in an interview with E! News, Selena admitted that her celebrity crush had changed, explaining, “Well I once said Logan Lerman, but now it’s George Clooney.”
Hmm. It’s almost like as she concentrates more on her acting career, she feels the need to make sure her celebrity crushes go along with that. And who’s more respected in the acting world that George Clooney? And you know what? He may be too old for her and I don’t think he would ever look in her direction right now, but in another ten years, who knows? He does often date women significantly younger than him, although not as young as Leonardo DiCaprio. So right now, it might be Selena’s wishful thinking, but we’ll have to see what the future holds.
I do have to say I’m a little impressed by how little controversy Selena caused this weekend, but I also think anything she might have said/done was overshadowed by Miley Cyrus‘ ridiculous twerking and over-the-top performance, and then Taylor Swift‘s reunion with Harry Styles. Selena had little to no romantic drama, and it’s seemed to be that way since she broke up with Justin Bieber. So will this be good or bad for her career? She must know that a lot of the media attention she received over the past couple of years was partly due to her relationship with Bieber, and discussing a crush on George Clooney won’t get that kind of attention. So don’t be surprised to see Selena in a ‘relationship’ with a big name celebrity in the next year or so. Former Disney stars aren’t immune to being set up on dates or PR romances, and although I hope Selena can find her own path in Hollywood, there are too many people around her who are making her decisions for her.
