The end of Game of Thrones Season 4 is fast approaching, and that means we’re starting to get casting news for Season 5. Considering that Game of Thrones has now broken HBO records to become their highest rated show ever (!), you can bet that the network is going full steam ahead with the next few seasons of the show, whether George R. R. Martin finishes writing the books or not.
According to several production sources, the show is currently casting two girls that would be involved in a famous story line from the books revolving around a character named Maggy the Frog. The story appears in a Feast for Crows, and focuses on a flashback sequence with a young Cersei and her two friends where Maggy [a seer] predicts a horrible future for Cersei and her family. Maggy also tells Cersei that she will outlive all her children [perhaps hinting at the death of Tommen and Myrcella in the next few seasons], and that a new and beautiful queen will take Cersei’s place on the throne. Margaery Tyrell?
Of course, there has also been tons of casting news regarding the Martells in Dorne, and the story that will follow Oberyn Martell’s death in the last episode. The sand snakes and Oberyn’s bastard children are all expected to appear [the characters are currently being cast], and the eldest daughter of Doran, Arianne Martell, will also appear in Season 5. No doubt, we’ll get their quest for revenge as well as an increased focus on Dorne and the inner workings of the kingdom, so different from Westeros but sharing so many of the same values.
As we get more casting news, we will keep you in the loop on what stories we can expect to see in Season 5. However, it’ll definitely be a challenge for the writers to continue to adapt the books into such a wide-spanning television show and keep audiences interested, especially as the novels get increasingly fractured as they chug along.
