Tonight on NBC the dark and haunting series “Hannibal” returns tonight for another new episode. On tonight’s episode called, “Sakizuki,” The team investigates a soupy crime scene as valuable evidence comes to the fore. On last week’s episode Will (Hugh Dancy) was determined to fight for his innocence as Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) and Jack (Laurence Fishburne) tried to wrap their heads around the fact he was behind bars. Meanwhile, Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) faced a strained relationship with Will while Kade Purnell (Cynthia Nixon) with the FBI payed him a visit.Also starring Hettienne Park, Aaron Abrams, Scott Thompson and Gillian Anderson.

The one living specimen in the gruesome color wheel of death wakes and screams while he struggles to loose himself from the flesh pile he’s been grafted to. He strains and tries to pull loose the laces that hold him and finally breaks free. He steps over the bodies and beats his way out of the metal enclosure, breaking the lock. Headlights come on him and he runs to hide in a lot of abandoned and broken down vehicles. His tormenter pursues with a rifle as he takes shelter in a car.
He runs into the nearby corn field with his pursuer on his heels. The flash light goes out and then is turned back on almost on top of him. He flees as fast as he can and makes it out of the field. The killer takes aim and shoots, barely missing him. He’s nearly on him and shines the light on his face as he teeters on a precipice. He jumps down into the river. He floats down river.
At the mental hospital, Will sits in his little metal interview box and tells Hannibal and Alana that he’s become an unreliable narrator and doesn’t know who he is anymore. He says he’s afraid. Hannibal tells him the lack of memories allow him to believe the worst. Will says he doesn’t know if it’s worse thinking that he did the crimes or that Hannibal entrapped him.
Alana assures him that Hannibal didn’t do this to him. Will says he felt betrayed by Hannibal and only that sense of betrayal felt real because he trusted him and needed to trust him. Hannibal assures him he can trust him. Will says he’s confused. Hannibal asks to help him. Will is in tears and shaking and says he needs his help. He breaks down.
Will is escorted back to his cell by orderlies and locked in. His tears stop and there’s a clear look of determination on his face!
Bedelia comes to see Hannibal. He invites her in and she says she can’t stay long. She tells him she will no longer be his therapist. He asks why and she says she can no longer be effective and doesn’t think she can help him. He asks if she’s giving him a referral and she says she is just ending their doctor patient relationship. He reminds her she tried to break it off before.
Bedelia tells him with what has happened with Will, she is questioning his actions related to the role he may have played in her attack. She assures him she won’t tell Jack anything about this because she knows she would only implicate herself. She tells him she has concluded based on studying the “person suit” that he wears is that he is dangerous.
Hannibal tells her he’s sorry she feels that way. She asks him to never come to her home again and shows herself out. As she goes, Hannibal tells her that he’s resuming therapy with Will and she asks why and he says because Will asked him to. She tells him they deserve each other and leaves.
Jack, Hannibal and Beverly work on the guy’s body that fell in the river. They are struggling to determine which injuries were caused by the river and which were perimortem. Hannibal advises them that they may find trace evidence in the cracks in the resin. Beverly presents Will’s theory about the skin tone color palette but doesn’t mention it came from him.
Hannibal concurs that many people see only color and that could be the killer’s MO. Hannibal tells Beverly it’s a fascinating insight – and that it’s like Will is in the room with them. Jack agrees then pulls her into his office and asks her how Will is. She starts to answer and he tells her to shut her mouth. He asks why she didn’t tell him she was going to see Will. She says she knew he would say no, but would want to say yes.
Beverly says if he had gone to Will, she wouldn’t have. Jack says Will is either delusional or a psychopath he can’t trust. She says that’s okay, he can just listen to what Will has to stay. He says if Will is delusional, he did it to him and if he’s a psycho, he messed up bringing him in. Beverly asks if he thinks Will is innocent and he says he’s not sure. She says Will still wants to save lives.
Jack tells her he’s under investigation and may lose his job over Will. Beverly asks if he wants her to avoid Will. He says they never had this conversation and that she should go do what she thinks needs to be done (effectively giving her permission to talk to Will further).
Hannibal sniffs the dead body and we see green shoots coming up out of it. Then the scene shifts to the cornfield. We see Hannibal and the dead body standing in the middle of it. He raises up from the corpse and clicks off the light.
Will is back in his little metal cage. Hannibal comes and sits in front of him and tells him he’s supposed to sit on the other side of the line. Will tells him some of the patients have urinated on their therapists but assures him he’s not interested in a pissing contest and invites him to pull his chair closer. Hannibal does so. Hannibal asks if he feels more like his friend today and Will says that doctor patient is a different dynamic than friends.
Hannibal reminds him he threatened him with a reckoning and that he was trying to find a memory to implicate him. Will says there’s not much in his head he recognizes. Hannibal tells him there’s not much truth about the past events in his head. Hannibal asks about Beverly coming to see him. He says Alana worries that dwelling on violence will stymy his recovery.
Hannibal asks what he saw in the photos and Will says that the killer is stitching them together into a human body mural where each person is a brush stroke. Hannibal asks why the killer is doing it and Will says he’s missing pieces of himself as well.
Will is back in his cell and tells Beverly that Hannibal has advised him against dwelling on the morbid. She says he should want to help. He tells her that he needs something from her. She tells him she can try since Chilton is being cooperative. He tells her that Chilton loves when he has visitors because he’s recording every word they speak.
Beverly asks what he wants and he says he wants her to ignore all the evidence against him. She says she can’t do that. Will asks how many colors will the killer add to the box of crayons. She asks what she would do if she ignored all the evidence against him. He says to start over without any of that in mind and look for other evidence that he either did the crimes or did not. She agrees and he consents to look at the file. He takes it and asks to look at it privately but she won’t leave.
He opens the envelope with photos of the latest victim. Will thinks and imagines himself in the autopsy room looking down at the body. He says the skin isn’t as discolored and looks fairly well preserved. He doesn’t think this one is a throw-away like the others. He asks if the victim had substance abuse problems and Beverly says he did – heroin, opiates and others. Will tells her that he didn’t OD from the heroin like the others because he had a high tolerance.
He tells her that the vic survived what was done to him. He tells her that he tore himself free from the tableau and ran. She asks how he got into the water and he says he escaped because if the killer had got to him, he would have put him back in the mural. Will tells her he got away and she asks from where. Will suggests a warehouse or farm that’s abandoned, upstream from where the body was found.
Will asks her what Hannibal thinks about the crime. She says Hannibal thinks he’s a throw-away like the others and Will tells her that’s what he said but may not be what he thinks. We see Hannibal with a protective plastic oversuit over his clothes in the cornfield near the silo. He sees a fresh padlock on the door. He goes to the ladder at the side and climbs up it. He scale up onto the slanted roof and peers in. He sees the human palette of death and hears a symphony in his ears. He notices the door opening. The killer comes in. Hannibal calls down to him – hello – and tells him he loves his work.
The FBI gang is at the crime scene. They are bringing out the bodies. Hannibal asks how they found it and Beverly tells him he and Will make a good team. With Hannibal’s clue about the corn dust and Will’s advice on location, they found it. Hannibal agrees that they do make a good team. She says that Will didn’t think the last vic was a throw-away and that led them to the site.
Jack greets Hannibal and tells him to prepare himself because he’s likely seen nothing like it. Hannibal agrees that he probably has not (HA!). They head in and Beverly looks at the bodies. She sees two arms stitched together. Jack asks Hannibal how someone could go so bad. Hannibal tells him humans have a DNA blueprint that leads to scenarios we can’t control. He asks what it looks like from above and Jack shows him a photo taken from the top of the silo.
Jack says it’s ritual human sacrifice and Hannibal says it may not be an offering but is certainly a gesture of sorts. Jack asks to who and Hannibal says the killer may be looking at God through an eye. The shape of the mural is an eye. Jack asks if this person would keep killing and Hannibal says that it could be a start or an end. Hannibal says he may never kill again. Jack asks about the killer not seeing people as people but as material. Hannibal says people are a means to an end.
Jack echoes Hannibal’s words when he tells the FBI shrink that he used Will as a means to an end – that he used to save lives but it was at the expense of Will’s. He thought Will would fight his way back to himself and the shrink says Will may still be fighting.
Jack says the world feels darker now and he has guilt over Will and that other lives are falling apart. He says he pushed Will. The shrink says he miscalculated but Jack says he failed. The shrink tells him they all fail and Jacks says when he looks at Will he sees his friend as a killer and can’t reconcile these two things.
Beverly and Jimmy tell Jack they found 47 bodies and have ID’d 19 but one they can’t. They show John Doe 21 who they think was Roland’s replacement. His leg was cut off and his skin color doesn’t match. Beverly says it’s like he changed colors mid-brush stroke. They wonder if he cut off his leg to make him fit. OMG – that body is the killer!
We see Hannibal sawing on the leg he took from the man. He’s in his kitchen. Jack recalls what Hannibal told him. He says the killer is having an existential crisis. Hannibal has a recipe card out and is cooking up the killer’s leg. It looks quite appetizing. He sits down with a nice wine and leg of psychopath for a lovely meal…
Jack meets with Bedelia. She tells him she needs closure and that they can’t talk anymore about Hannibal after today. He asks if she’s taking the fifth and she says she simply has no more insight to offer him. He asks what about future insight and she tells him she has terminated her relationship with Hannibal because it would be irresponsible for her because she no longer feels secure emotionally right now. She says she’s recusing herself and hopes he understands. He says he doesn’t. She tells him both she and Hannibal were traumatized by dangerous patients. Hannibal by Will and her by another. She says this situation is reminding her of past trauma. He recommends her seeing Hannibal as a therapist and she clearly declines. She asks him not to tell Hannibal about this conversation.
Hannibal and Beverly meet with Will. She implies that if he doesn’t help with the mural she won’t be able to move onto other tasks she needs to focus on (i.e. his case). They show him the photo of the mural and Hannibal reminds him that people once through that the last image you saw before death was fixed on the dying eye. He asks him what image would be fixed on that dying eye. Will studies the photo and sees himself at the mural standing amid the bodies.
He says he made them pliable and molded them and set and sealed them where they lay. He says it was a design – a dead eye of vision and consciousness. He says he is unseeing but someone else may see him. He says one of these things is not like the others. He says one of these things just doesn’t belong. He asks the last body who he is and why he’s so different from the others. He says he didn’t put him there and is not part of the design. He looks up and sees the antlered creature looking down into the silo.
Will sees himself in the middle of the bodies. He pictures Hannibal sewing him up and saying that killing must feel good to God since he does it all the time. He asks aren’t we created in his image. Back in the now, Will glances up at them. He tells them the killer is in the mural. He indicates the last body and says that he’s the killer. She asks about the missing leg and Will says the man who put him in the mural took it as a trophy. Hannibal says he must have had a friend.
We see Hannibal telling the killer that many famous painters added themselves to their works. The man says his work isn’t finished and Hannibal says he’s finishing it for him. He asks what his eye looks at when it looks to the heavens and the man says nothing because there is no God. He asks Hannibal why he’s helping him. Hannibal says his eyes will see God and he will see him reflected back.
Kade comes to see Will at the mental hospital. She introduces herself and tells him she’s with FBI oversight. He asks if he’s still an FBI employee until the trial. She tells him the point of the trial is whether or not he knew what he was doing when he did what he did. She tells him Alana is working on his defence of unconsciousness. Will tells her the idea is that the FBI made him do it. Kade tells him this theory is making Alana unpopular.
Kade tells him she thinks he was already a killer and that he concocted an illness to cover up what he did. She walks closer and tells him if he pleads guilty it will spare them a trial and she will make sure he stays comfortable at the mental hospital. He tells her that he’s pleading innocent. She tells him that everyone saw him having a very public breakdown and that it was quite a performance. He tells her it’s not his performance she’s watching. Kade tells him he’ll get the death penalty and she’s trying to save his life. He tells her he has to save his own life.
Will is fly fishing in the river again on a mental vacation. The door opens and Bedelia is there. He asks who she is and she tells him – he recognizes her name as Hannibal’s therapist. He asks what that’s like and she says she’s heard so much about him that she feels she knows him. He says she doesn’t. She tells him she wanted to meet him before she withdraws from all social ties. She tells him that it may be small comfort but she’s convinced that Hannibal did what he thinks is best for Will.
She tells him the traumatized are predictable because they can survive what was done to them. She steps close to the bars and a guard comes close and tells her to step back. She whispers to Will that she believes him. The guard hustles her out and Will gasps and then struggles to breathe.
Hannibal is in his plastic suit and comes into a house. He walks silently room by room. The furniture is covered and the place looks empty. He picks up a recorder and plays the message that is Bedelia saying he’s dangerous.
