Kate Middleton Cancels Malta Trip: Suffering From Acute Morning Sickness, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, Pregnant With Second Child

Kate Middleton’s solo trip to Malta will be cancelled. After months of speculation, Clarence House finally confirmed that Kate Middleton is pregnant with her second baby. While the official statements were all congratulatory and celebratory, there was an undercurrent of worry concerning Kate’s health. The statement from Clarence mentioned that Kate was once again suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, the acute morning sickness condition that she faced during her first pregnancy with Prince George. The statement mentioned that Kate was getting treated by doctors at Kensington Palace right now, and their Twitter confirmation was clearly a preemptive measure to prevent anyone else from breaking Kate’s pregnancy news.

Either way, the royals have already confirmed that Kate’s planned appearance with Prince William at Oxford this week has been cancelled. It’s also very, very likely that her planned trip to Malta will also be cancelled, especially in light of her health issues.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum isn’t a life threatening condition, but Kate actually got hospitalized from it the first time around. There is always a risk of miscarriage and other side effects, and there’s no way the royals are going to take a chance with Kate’s health – and more importantly, the health of the ‘spare’. As such, they’ve cancelled her upcoming appearances for the next two weeks, and they’ll probably announce the rest of the cancellations soon. If they’re not even going to let Kate travel to Oxford for a day, what are the chances that they’re going to let Kate go to Malta by herself?!

Plus, this condition reportedly starts at the 4-week mark and doesn’t go away until the 16-18 week mark, so there’s still a few months of vomiting and morning sickness that Kate has to get through before she’s strong enough to travel.
