Nina Dobrev Wants To Get Away From Ian Somerhalder and Establish Movie Career: Breaks Vampire Diaries Contract?

We’ve covered in detail Nina Dobrev’s desire to land a solid movie franchise and use that as a launchpad for a solid film career. However, Nina is still contracted to at least another season on The Vampire Diaries, not counting the one she’s currently filming. Sure, she and Ian Somerhalder are probably getting a lot of money for that, but is another season worth a potential shot at a film career?

Right now, Nina has The Perks of Being A Wallflower under her belt – and while that was a solid movie and did decently well at the box office, Nina had a minuscule role in the film. If we took a proper look at her film career, she’s barely had speaking lines in most of her parts. Perks did a solid job of establishing that she could be a dramatic actress, and she’s with CAA now, so I’m sure she’s auditioning for major roles. Plus, every other superhero franchise seems to be casting younger and younger, and that’s not counting the numerous YA series and spin-offs that need young-looking 20-something year olds to star in their movies.

But at the end of the day, Nina has basically given away another two years of her life to this show. Is that a smart move? Since she is auditioning for these franchise roles, let’s say that she lands a role and it coincides with her filming The Vampire Diaries? Since she’s contracted, it’s going to be very difficult to break the contract and do what she wants. Sure, she could pull a Katherine Heigl and have the producers of the show fire her, but Nina is too much of a professional to pull that sort of stunt.

What do you guys think? The choice would be to stay on with the Vampire Diaries despite finding a role, and then getting stuck working with her ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder. Or get out there and take a chance on her film career, and deal with the repercussions later.
