#Supernatural starts in Menomonie, Wisconsin. A little girl is having a tea party as her parents watch. Her mom tells Maddie they’re ready to go to dinner. She has an imaginary friend in the chair. Her mom walks out.

Her husband says they have reservations and he’s not happy about running late to dinner because of her playtime. Maddie says they can party while her parents eat Cheerios. Turns out her friend is real. It’s a unicorn dude named Sparkle!

He tells Maddie to go with her parents while he cleans up. Later, Sparkle sits reading The Velveteen Rabbit. Someone comes in and calls him. Maddie screams when she sees the horror in her room. Sam wakes early to an alarm.

He yawns and we see someone in the corner of his room as he walks out sleepily. The person follows. Sam goes and starts coffee. Then he notices a tea party set up on the table. There are M&M sculptures. A guy pops out – it’s Sully.

He asks doesn’t Sam remember him from growing up. Sam freaks and punches him then says he’s not real. Sully asks how he punched him. Dean comes in and asks who he’s talking to. He can’t see Sully. He asks if Sam is having a stroke.

Sully says he can’t see him unless he wants him to. Sully appears and Sam asks if he can see him now. Sam says this is his imaginary friend Sully. Dean is stunned. Dean goes to get his gun then threatens him. Sully says someone killed his friend.

Dean asks if it was an imaginary, imaginary friend. He says they are Zanna and says they help kids and are good guys. Sam says he can’t believe he’s real. Sully says he needs their help and knows they’re hunters. Dean says they help people.

He says Sully is not people. Dean tells Sam to get into the library now. Sully tries to follow and Dean scares him away. Dean rants at Sam who says Sully made him marshmallow nachos as a kid and he only ever told Sully about it.

Dean says maybe it’s a vision and Sam says they both are seeing it. He looks up Zanna and says they guide lost children then they move on once the kid gains confidence. Dean says it’s not their problem. Dean says fairy godmother getting capped isn’t their problem.

Sam says Sully helped him as a kid. Later, they roll to the house in Wisconsin. Sully says it’s a horror show in there. He says he was there last night. He says he’s in management now and came to see Sparkle.

He says he showed up and the place was bananas. He says the kid called the cops and Sparkle was dead – he says it was horrible. Only the kid saw it, though. Sully says he’ll meet them inside and he poofs away. Dean and Sam get out.

They put on cardigans to look less threatening. Sam says he was a lonely kid but Dean says he had him. We see Sam as a kid and a ringing phone. Sully tells Sam to answer. Dean is on the phone and tells Sam that dad said no.

Sam is upset that they won’t let him hunt with them. Sully tells Sam that Dean is a germ. Their dad honks and Dean says he’ll call in a couple of days. Sam is stuck at home alone. Sully tries to cheer him up. Now, they knock on the door.

They introduce themselves as trauma counselors from child services. The mom invites them in and says her daughter called the police and has an active imagination. She says Sparkle is her unicorn man friend that Maddie thinks is dead in her room.

Sam asks if they can speak to her. They find an upset Maddie and Sam asks her about last night – about Sparkle. She stares out the window and Sam asks why she won’t go back in her room. Maddie says – all the blood.

Her mom takes them into the room and they see nothing. They ask for a moment alone and the mom leaves. Sully is there and Dean says they can’t see it. Sully says he can show them all they can see but they can’t tell a soul.

They agree and he touches their foreheads. Now they see the grisly sparkly murder scene. Dean says that kid will need all the shrinks. His blood is glittery too and Sully says Sparkle can’t stop shining even when dead.

Sully asks who would do this. Dean finds a blade. Sully says another Zanna would never do this. The mom comes back in and she walks through the blood. There is blood everywhere – on the curtains, all over.

The mom smears it all over her face. Sully is freaking out. Sully says say something and Sam recommends letting Maddie sleep in the spare room. They recommend hot showers for all of them. Sam says start there.

He offers for her to contact them for more information later. At another house, a girl Zoe splashes in her paddling pool with her imaginary friend who is a pretty mermaid. Someone watches the mermaid soaking in the pool.

He creeps up on her and stabs. The rubber ducky is covered in blood and a puddle blood seeps through the pool water. Sully takes them to Nikki’s house and tells them she didn’t check in last night. They find her find hanging over the pool.

Sully says it’s a bloodbath. Sully is near tears but says he’ll stay strong for Sam. They see it’s another stabbing. Dean asks who would hurt her and Sully says her boyfriend is a bit clingy. He says Weems wouldn’t hurt her.

Dean says let’s go talk to the imaginary friend’s boyfriend. Sully doesn’t want to leave her and Dean says they can find an imaginary toilet and flush her. Sully is offended. Dean tells Sam that Totoro really cares for him.

Sam thinks back to talking to Sully about flying. Sully asks him about eating 10 waffles at once and he says he tried once and then he fakes vomiting. Sam asks him if he’s ever thought about running away. He says he’d run from the hunting life.

Sully suggests maybe he wants to go to school and make friends. Sully says he won’t always have him then tells Sam he can be whatever he wants to be. He says he’s Sam, not Dean and not his dad. He tells him he’s awesome.

Sam says his dad will kill him if he ran away but Sully says his life is his choice. Sam smiles and sighs. Then he says okay – let’s go. Now, Dean digs a grave for the mermaid and calls Sam a slacker. He asks if he’s burying Ariel by himself.

Later, we see Weems hiding peed on sheets with a kid. He tells Fletcher that his mommy is asleep and the kid asks if his mom drank grown up juice and went sleepy bye. Weems sends the kid off to bed with a high five.

Weems hangs the sheets on the line and someone is nearby with the knife. Weems looks around. He pulls back the sheet and peers. He hangs another. A shadow is there and stabs him through the sheet. He collapses. The killer runs off.

It looks like a girl. The person gets into a VW Bug and drives away. Weems calls Sully for help using their telepathic connection.

The guys show up and find a blood trail that leads to the garage. They go inside and find Weems who is still alive. Sully runs to him and says the blade went through his love handle and his fat saved him. Dean says the mermaid wasn’t so lucky.

Sully tells him they’re friends. Dean asks when he last saw the little mermaid and Sam says she was murdered. Weems starts bawling and Sully says Sparkle is gone too. Weems says that’s their whole posse.

Weems says it was a girl who drove a VW. Dean asks what’s special about him and he says why do kids like him. He says he plays air guitar. Dean says anyone can play air guitar. Weems gets up and starts playing and it sounds amazing.

Dean is stunned. Then he says he’s no Clapton. Sully goes for bandages for Weems. Sully tells Sam he’ll be right back and runs off. Weems asks if he’s “that Sam” and calls him Sully’s Sam. He says he is and Weems asks if they’re back together.

He asks how old Sam is and Sam says Sully came to him for help. Weems says – Sam Winchester – then says wow. He tells him he broke Sully’s heart. Sam looks upset. In the past, Sully is ready to run away and Sam says his dad changed his mind.

He says he finally gets to go on a hunt and says he has to catch a bus to Milwaukee. He says he’s a Winchester and hunts monsters. He asks why Sully can’t be happy for him but Sully says this is not a good path for him.

Sam says he’s not afraid and Sully says hunting is not the other way. He tells Sam he can leave now but Sam says he wants to be with his dad and Dean. Sam calls him his pretend friend and says he’s not even real. He says he doesn’t need him.

Sam says he wishes he could unmake him up. Sully is upset and Sam says that’s what he wants. He packs his bag and tells Sully to go. Sully tells him to have a good long life and then he’s gone. Sam grabs his jacket and walks out.

Now, Sam hears Weems talking to Sully who bandaged him. Dean is out looking for the girl. Weems goes to check on Fletcher and says he has a bladder like a sieve. Sam tells Sully he’s awesome for helping everyone and he says it doesn’t always work out.

Sam says he feels awful about how he acted when he was a jerk kid. Sully says goodbyes are part of the job and theirs was just really bad. He tells Sam when he went off to hunt, he considered it one of his big failures.

He says he thought Sam wanted something else but he was wrong and it all worked out. Sam says he doesn’t know about that but says Sam is a hero and saved the world. Sully says he kept track of him and he did good.

Sam says he’s also done bad and really bad. Sam says he screwed up and let something out in the world that was awful. Sully says the others call it the darkness. Sam says they’re going to fix it. Sam says he thinks God wants to help fix it.

Sam says he doesn’t think he can do what God is asking. Sully asks how bad it is. Sam tells him about the cage in hell and says they keep Lucifer there. He says he’s been in the cage and it’s awful. He says he thinks God wants him to go back.

Sam is upset and Sully asks if he ever thinks about running away anymore. Sam says he did and he has but not in a while, not anymore. Sully gives him a smile. Sam’s phone buzzes and Dean says he found her. He sends an address and says bring Sully.

Sam asks if he ever thought about hotwiring a minivan. Dean is tied up and the killer sent the text! She tells Dean that his brother is on the way. We see that Dean tracked the VW down and looked inside. He was hit from behind when he did.

Now, he asks who she is and she says they have a mutual imaginary friend. She asks if he knows Sully. Sam and Sully show up and Sully says – Reese? She calls him stranger and Reese offers a Sully for Dean trade.

She says Sully killed her sister. He says it was an accident. He says Reese and her twin were his first kids after Sam. He says it was his fault. He says she chased him into the street playing tag and says he didn’t see the car.

He says that’s why he left the field and doesn’t work with kids any more. Reese says try telling a kid shrink your twin Audrey is dead because of an imaginary friend. Reese says she researched and found out about Zanna.

She says a witch sold her a spell so she could see the freaks then gave her the knife. She says she’s saving other kids from this monster. Reese says she liked watching Sully suffer. She says she needed him after her sister died but he wasn’t there.

Sully says he panicked when Audrey died and left her alone to deal with the pain because he couldn’t handle it. She says maybe she’ll take a real person he loves. Sam says it won’t happen. Sully says she can kill him if that’s best for her.

He says if it’s what she needs, he’s okay with it. He’s crying now. Reese says she’s still mad and says she can’t stop it. She says she’s still so mad. She holds the knife up to him. Dean works on getting his hands loose.

Dean tells Reese revenge won’t make her feel better. He says he’s seen real bad monsters and the Zanna are Sesame Street Mother Teresas. He says Sully was there for his brother when he wasn’t. He says there is not a monstrous bone in Sully’s body.

Sully tells her he’s so sorry. She cries. She drops the knife and hugs Sully. Dean grabs the knife. Sully holds her while she cries. Later, Sully talks to Sam and Sam tells him he’s a hero to him. Sam says heroes aren’t perfect.

Sully says sometimes heroes are scared but that means what they face is super-important and no one else has the balls to do it. Dean asks about Reese and Sully says he’ll check in with her then thanks Dean for taking care of Sam.

Dean says he’s weird but he’s good weird. Sully says good luck then he’s gone. Sam looks thoughtful. Later, they drive and Sam tells him they need to talk about the cage. Dean says no way. Dean says if the visions are real, this is not good.

Sam says he has to do it but Dean says there’s always another way. Sam says okay then asks what is the other way. Dean isn’t happy about involving Lucifer but he has no answer for Sam.

THE END!
