The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Wednesday, January 1, teases that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) is in for a big surprise. At home, Nick will hear a noise and grab a baseball bat to investigate. He’ll be taken aback to find Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) waiting in a party hat with balloons and birthday muffins. Chelsea will insist she wanted to be the first one to wish Nick a happy birthday.
After Nick blows out his candle, Chelsea will assume his wish is for Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) to get out of their lives. They’ll debate Chelsea living at the penthouse, but she’ll be adamant that it’s for Connor Newman’s (Judah Mackey) sake. Chelsea will acknowledge that Adam still loves her, and Nick will point out that Adam’s succeeding in keeping them apart.
Chelsea will push Nick to be understanding about this. She’ll promise to see Nick at Society later for the New Year’s Eve party. At the Grand Phoenix, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) will remain disgusted with Adam. He’ll bring Phyllis up to speed on Nick spilling the seduction scheme to Chelsea. Adam will suggest it couldn’t have gone better. He’ll note that Chelsea learned the whole story and still didn’t move out.
Talk will eventually turn to Phyllis’ interest in Nick – or lack thereof according to her. Adam will contend that since Nick doesn’t love Phyllis back, it was easier for her to just throw in the towel. They’ll trade barbs until Phyllis declares that this is going to be her year. She’ll feel confident everything will change for her in 2020.
At Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) penthouse, he’ll discuss his postponed London trip with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy). They chose to stay in town for now because of the baby found on the Newman property. Y&R spoilers say Elena will get a text from Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) about Sasha and Joy’s living arrangement. They’re getting set up in a new apartment, so Elena will hope to donate some things.
Afterward, “Chance” Chancellor (Donny Boaz) will show up and make Devon an offer. He’ll suggest he could privately help Devon with the Colin Atkinson (Tristan Rogers) situation. When Elena retrieves her phone, she’ll see a text from Sasha about her baby’s crisis. It won’t be long until Devon’s offering reassurance to Sasha at the hospital. All the medical bills have already been handled, and Devon’s certain Joy will be fine.
Elena will emerge moments later and confirm that Joy’s fever has gone down. Sasha will embrace Elena and pass along some words of gratitude to Devon as well. At Adam’s place, Chelsea will be on hand to see the stuff Adam purchased for Oliver the kitten. Adam will also present a drawing of Connor’s family, but Chelsea will think they’re fueling the kid’s wrong idea. She won’t want to give Connor false hope.
Adam will think Chelsea’s just afraid to admit she loves him. He’ll kiss Chelsea passionately before she pulls back and insists he shouldn’t crash the New Year’s Eve bash. Adam will mention that he scored an invitation and intends to be there.
At Crimson Lights, Summer Newman (Hunter King) and Faith Newman (Alyvia Alyn Lind) will spend some time with Nick for his birthday. Phyllis will eventually mosey over and hear about the party later. She’ll decline to attend the gathering. Once Phyllis is alone with Nick, she’ll give him his birthday gift: tickets to see the Brewers play.
Next, The Young and the Restless spoilers say Phyllis will corner Chance. She’ll spot him at the coffeehouse and wish him a happy new year. Chance will wonder if Phyllis’ resolution is to stop all the Vegas pestering, but she’ll insist there’s no chance of that happening. Phyllis will comment on how fit Chance is and assume his resolution isn’t to go to the gym.
After Chances mentions that he’ll be at Abby Newman’s (Melissa Ordway) shindig, she assures him she’ll be there, too. It sounds like Phyllis is already working a new angle. Over with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), he’ll insist Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) will have to ring in the new year alone. He’ll blame work, but he’ll promise he’ll try to make it over for a midnight kiss.
Victoria will think back to the New Year’s when she found Billy in need of saving. After Victoria points out that she’d do it again, Billy will think negative thoughts. He’ll wish Victoria didn’t see him as someone who needed saving. Billy will finally blurt out a question. He’ll ask what if it is who he is, so that’ll lead to Victoria’s gambling fears.
Billy will think issues are bigger and will suggest he’s craving more. He’ll be looking for time, freedom, excitement, happiness… It’s clear that Billy’s quite unfulfilled in his current life, but Victoria will assure him that he can be fixed. Billy will give Victoria a hug, but he’ll still seem distant. He’ll lie about meeting an executive before texting Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) about joining him to talk.
