Where are they now? Charity and Charly Pierce are a mother and daughter. Charity is the mother. She weighed more than seven hundred pounds when she first started her weight loss journey and after losing a hundred and twenty-eight pounds she qualified for surgery. She received her surgery. She then continued to lose weight and so she qualified for skin removal as well. She has had several skin removal surgeries since then. She was losing weight when she began to notice her daughter Charly started gaining weight. Charly was her mother’s caretaker. She’s watched her mother struggle and she hadn’t wanted that for herself. She was almost four hundred pounds when she went to go see Dr. Now for help.

Dr. Now put her on a diet. She followed it to much success. She lost enough weight to qualify for surgery and right afterward tragedy hit the family. Charity’s mother had passed away. Charity was still struggling with her loss when she found out her fiancé Tony slept with her sister Dusty and so that ended the relationship. Charity said Tony had cheated on her because he hadn’t felt needed anymore. He also served as her caretaker for a while and its clear he resented her weight loss. Tony cheated because he was a selfish jerk. It was clear to Charly and not to Charity. Charity went on to have an accidental overdose.

Charity took too many of the pain meds she had been given. She had to be rushed to the hospital and Dr. Now has ruled out any more surgeries for now. He was also focusing on the daughter Charly. Charly started off really well and she didn’t plateau until her mother’s incident happened. Charity would later say she’s doing better. She wanted to continue to lose weight in an effort to prove to Dr. Now that she was serious about this and that she does deserve more skin removal surgery, but she wasn’t losing the weight anymore. Charity found out at her next appointment that she had only lost six pounds. Her daughter also hasn’t lost much weight. Charity has been sabotaging herself as well as her daughter.

Dr. Now picked up on their dynamic. He suggested they see a therapist and the women have differing points of view on it. Charity doesn’t see why they need a therapist. She thinks her relationship is healthy and meanwhile Charly knows better. Charly is pretty realistic about their relationship. She knows her mother doesn’t want her to leave her and that’s part of the reason why Charity is being so self-destructive. Charity thinks if she big that no one will leave her or cheat on her as Tony did. What happened with Tony played into her worst fears. Charity was afraid of losing her daughter now and that’s why she’s doing her best to sink her.

Charity tells Charly its okay to cheat on her diet. She brings around unhealthy food and tells Charly its no big deal. When it is. Charly wants to get healthy. She wants to move out and live her own. She wants to go back to school. She wants to live an independent life free of her mother. Charly told the therapist this. She told her what her goals her and so she’s envisioning life after weight loss. Charly is doing what she’s supposed to do to lose weight. She wishes her mother would be the same and unfortunately no one can help Charity until Charity helps herself. Charity needs to go to therapy. She also has to maintain the program.

Teretha was a difficult case. She began the program four years ago and she was a problem from the very first. She came in at nearly eight hundred pounds. She had to lose the necessary weight to qualify for surgery. She was able to do so and so the problem with her hadn’t occurred until after surgery. Teretha went back to her old ways after surgery. She would use the excuse of being at home and with her enabler to eat whatever she wants as well as cutting out exercise. Teretha also wasn’t the easiest patient. She refused to stand or at least try for the longest time. Dr. Now had to put her into a rehab facility.

Teretha was fine when she was at the rehab facility. She did what she needed whenever she was there and then it would fall by the wayside the second she went home. Her husband Derrick was the chief enabler. He would cook her unhealthy food and he would push her around in the wheelchair. Derrick would wait on her hand and foot. Teretha wasn’t getting that in in the hospital or at the rehab facility and so that’s why she was always in a rush to head home. She pretended it was for her grandkids when it wasn’t. She just liked being waited on and Derrick did that. He did that even as she dropped out of the program because she thought she was doing fine.

Teretha gained back some weight. She now uses the wheelchair to get around at home and so she wanted back into the program. She contacted Dr. Now. She told him she didn’t know her weight at the time and he had correctly guessed she was over five hundred pounds. He also flat-out called her husband her enabler. Dr. Now didn’t care for excuses and he again told her she has to lose forty pounds before she could have any further surgeries. He wanted her to prove herself and she just couldn’t. Teretha told him she was walking inside her house when she wasn’t. She was being wheeled around in the wheelchair and she also forgot to reveal the real reason she wants back in.

Teretha wants back into the program because her husband can’t wait on her like he used to. Derrick’s health was flaring up and so he couldn’t be responsible for everything anymore. He needed Teretha to start looking after herself. She did that by going into an assisted living facility. She was waited on there which is what she wanted. Teretha had talked her way back into the program, but she wasn’t doing anything to prove she wants it and she wasn’t even working out. She wasn’t walking. She was being wheeled around and she was constantly breaking the diet. She thought she was being healthy by eating fried chicken because of its chicken.

Teretha failed to see how the fried part took away the healthy benefits. She also hadn’t been weighed since the first time. She kept coming up with excuses and it worked on everyone except Dr. Now. Dr. Now knew she wasn’t following the diet plan. He also knew she wasn’t working out and so he told her to go back home. She eventually did. She went back home and she claimed her husband’s health was getting better. It gave her the excuse to rely on him again. Derrick was taking care of her and she still wasn’t eating right or exercising. She also wasn’t going to therapy. She didn’t see the doctor and she constantly makes excuses for why she couldn’t do it.

By time Teretha did go on to weigh herself, it was revealed she gained twenty-one pounds. She refused to believe it at first because she swears she’s doing better and she’s not. She’s not doing what she’s supposed to do. She may claim so and she would be wrong. The cameras saw everything. They filmed her spending most of the day in the bed and the most she would do is fold the clothes. She does the bare minimum and still expect results. It was unrealistic. Dr. Now could see it and he was getting tired of her excuses. He made another appointment for her to be weighed. He told her if she missed that appointment then it would be over. He would kick her out of the program and her journey would end.

Teretha hadn’t liked being given an ultimatum. She still lives in her dream world in which she’s doing everything perfectly and so she claimed Dr. Now wasn’t listening to her. She said nothing she did was ever right for him. He wasn’t being encouraging and the truth is Dr. Now is fed up. He’s tired of being lied tp. He could see the results for himself and he knows she wasn’t losing weight. Dr. Now had to give her that ultimatum. He thought it would light a fire under her and instead it gave her the excuse she needed to drop out of the program. She later invited her grandchildren on the day she was supposed to get weighed and so she forced Dr. Now’s hand. He had to kick her out.

Charity finally heard from her daughter Charly. Charly has dramatically lost a lot of weight and she was doing better. She has a job now. She has friends and she’s going out. Charly agreed to meet with Charity. Her mother misses her dearly. The first thing Charity did upon seeing her daughter was complain about being alone because she wasn’t used to it. She’s had people taking care of her since she was small and now that she’s alone she’s started drinking. She drinks everyday. She drinks to the point where she passes out at home as a way of falling asleep at night. And so she went from one extreme to the next.

Charly wasn’t moving back in with her mother. She understood her mother was struggling and she told her that she should change her behavior. Charly didn’t want her mother dying from alcoholism. She told Charity to get it together and Charity eventually did. She quit drinking. She began exercising again and this time she kept with it.

Both Charly and Charity are in a better place today than they were before.

THE END!
