Perry Mason Recap 07/05/20: Season 1 Episode 3 “Chapter 3”

Tonight on HBO their new series Perry Mason Based on characters created by author Erle Stanley Gardner, airs with an all-new Sunday, July 5, 2020, episode, and we have your Perry Mason recap below. In tonight’s Perry Mason season 1 episode 3 called “Chapter 3,” as per the Showtime synopsis “Wily District Attorney Maynard Barnes goes public with a shocking new development in order to gain an advantage over E.B. and the team.

Mason and Strickland get unauthorized access to physical evidence with help from Virgil, Mason’s connect at the city morgue. Later, Mason attempts to extract information from a withholding Drake, who’s weary of Holcomb and Ennis’ watchful eyes. Della notices a change in E.B., who seems uncharacteristically out of sorts.

Law officials hold a press conference, blaming the mother Emily for the death of her own baby. It seems she had a lover who helped. Meanwhile, across town at the barbershop Elias tells the press this is all political as the DA wants to become mayor.

Perry listens to a nun preach. Later, he meets with several church heads to talk about George Gannon. They all act surprised when discussing his character. Elias tries to get Emily and her husband to prepare to show a united front in court while Perry looks over George’s body at the morgue. Perry sees some lacerations to George’s windpipe.

Perry heads to retrieve the crime scene report, making friends with a secretary in the hopes of getting some additional information. Perry arrives at court just in time to see Emily plead guilty. The court goes wild. Elias talks with her. She changes her plea to not guilty. She is held on a bail of $25k. Outside of court, Alice yells at Perry. He isn’t doing much to help Emily all because they see her as a slut.

Perry heads to find the officer who was at the crime scene. He doesn’t want to talk. The real killer sits just feet away.

Perry meets with one of his associates. He tells Perry that George was stealing from a local business.

The detective who killed several men including Gannon seeks out the crime scene officer and his pregnant wife at a market. He tells him not to talk to Perry.

Sister Alice visits Emily. She tells Emily they are alike and that there are a lot of George’s in the world, men who lie. Alice believes she is innocent and tells the other women in the surrounding cell.

Perry arrives at a casino with Lupe. She is ready for some fun while Perry asks about George who used to work at the bar. Lupe discovers he is actually working on their so-called date and gets annoyed. Perry talks with the owner. Lupe gambles and wins a decent pot. They head outside where Lupe takes off her shoes and gets into the fountain. Perry laughs and gets in. They kiss.

Della picks up Elias who seems distraught. Meanwhile, Perry tries again to talk with the crime scene officer who ends up punching him several times, telling him to stay away.

Perry heads to tell Elias about what he has found and Elias doesn’t want to hear it. Della brings a letter in. It seems they may have been fired.

At home, the crime scene officer Paul is upset about Perry. His wife doesn’t care. She just wants their family to get what they deserve.

Sister Alice is stressed over Emily while her mother tells her she needs to distance herself.

Elias tries to get help reducing Emily’s bail but gets nowhere. Herman and Matthew talk. Matthew acknowledges he was mean some nights to Emily. Maybe that is why she went off with George. Herman shows Matthew a plan. He wants to create a city for people of God.

Della finds Emily being bullied by officers at the jail. The court ordered matron is also not with her.

After meeting Pete at the bar, Perry comes out to see Paul who confesses he was made to change his report. He also hands his teeth in a linen napkin he found at the scene. Perry makes Pete go with him to see if they fit in George’s mouth. Sure enough, they do.

Sister Alice shakes and falls down during church. Reporters gather around while she shakes. When she comes to she tells her mother and everyone around that God has spoken to her. She is going to resurrect Charlie.
