Prince William Visits Historic Pub – Celebrates As Lockdown Lifting In England

Prince William made another public outing this past week to commemorate the UK taking a big step toward the lockdown lifting – he visited a local pub. William went to the historic Rose & Crown pub in Snettisham, which is close to his home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

But Prince William’s visit to the pub wasn’t all about getting a drink. It was a significant visit because pubs in England have just reopened. Coronavirus cases in England have been dropping, and so the lockdown restrictions are gradually lifting. As royal watchers know, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been getting out here and there amidst the lockdown lift and visiting with local businesses and organizations.

William wanted to show his support for the Rose & Crown staff, as they’ve had to adapt considerably over the past months. It’s been tough on small businesses to keep afloat while they haven’t been able to be open during the pandemic, and Prince William’s visit showed his empathy for that situation.

Plus, the Rose & Crown Pub did a noteworthy thing when it got shut down due to the pandemic – it donated its leftover goods to the Purfleet Trust, which is an organization that provides help for single homeless people in the area. It seems that Prince William wanted to call attention to that and to thank the pub staff for their good deed.

On the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram feed, William was pictured sitting with some of the pub staff and enjoying a drink while practicing social distancing. The caption reads: “As pubs and restaurants reopen around the UK this weekend, The Duke popped into the local pub in Norfolk to wish the staff well and hear how they have adapted their operations in order to allow them to return to a new normal. Wishing everyone a safe weekend.”

William visited with the pub owners Jeannette and Anthony Goodrich for about 45 minutes. “He was really interested, and he wanted to understand what kind of measures we’ve had to take to prepare for reopening,” Jeannette told the Eastern Daily Press. Jeannette also reported that Prince William discussed some of the implications that the lockdown has had on families, even remarking about some of his own experiences.

It’s great to see Prince William out and drawing attention to the difficulties that small businesses have faced, and pubs in particular since they’re just now able to reopen. The visit comes just shortly after William and Kate Middleton have begun to emerge for public visits in their local area. Be sure to check back here at CDL for more British royals news and updates.
